BUT FIRST.....

The Treaty of Mexico 2013 to 2023
as recognized this day, May 11th 2013, by Tea Party Chief Aja Brooks, descendant of the Cherokee Nation, in agreement with President Enrique Pena Nieto, former Head of Government and Speaker of the Labor Party, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, and Executive Director Labor Council for Latin American Advancement, Hector E. Sanchez, not for the exchange of land, but to advance the security needs and economic development of both the United States and Mexico. For the purpose of lawfully exchanged labor force and mutual security endeavors, achieved by marriage of trade and mutual policy, in accordance to law.

As set forth, the established budgetary laws and pro-growth economics:
The Legislative Integrity Act of 2012 requires the public reading and financial scoring of all legislation
Effective 3-1-13 Constitutional Priorities Budget Act of 2013-2023 known as “The 10 year Budget Path” https://docs.google.com/document/d/1C-5dMVwRuug6a1t6CY4XgLCqLC-XsPwFbmgSt49SHJk/edit

For the purpose of making the laws clear and cohesive on border security, in thwarting domestic and foreign terrorism with citizen cooperation:
"The 2011 Immigration Diplomacy, Border Policy, and Drug Enforcement Reform Act" effective 1/1/12: the failure to adhere to this act will further strain state budgets weakened by the federal deficit, making us less safe by less effective response to the security issues on the border for the problems spilling over into our local communities: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Jrbw7qnUFymrqedJi-Zs0XCx4LhqsEWsJrwJx7RGMt0/edit?hl=en_US

DRONE PROCUREMENT AND ASSIGNMENTS:

Cohesive Immigration reform policy, as defined below:

For years, Mexico has evaded paying immigration fees to states, due to weaker or unenforceable state laws: this created rampant tax evasion and pilfering the public trust for the services used by Mexico’s citizens who do not pay taxes and who are not properly documented by E-VERIFY or through current IRS and state law processes.

The issue has been a lack of agreement on how to treat the transitory labor migrant worker class, how to deal with disparity of drug laws, and how to tackle these problems together.
The requirements for immigration are no different than any other citizen:
a citizen whose income is over $20,000 must register and file their taxes annually with http://www.irs.gov/

If your income or business is below $20,000, you must register with the State Department of Revenue, and file your taxes annually, by registering your business, paying for sales and use tax, and disclosing your annual statement of worth and expdenditures as required by federal law https://etax.dor.ga.gov/

Any person, residence, or business suspected of tax evasion will now be reported to these agencies, IRS or State Department of Revenue, rather than ICE http://www.ice.gov/
ICE is designated to handle border security, crime, and immigration status issues.

The IRS should be an integral part of this Treaty to procuring lost revenue over the past decade, conducting audits for tax evasion on individuals, residences, and businesses who have failed to meet state and federal guidelines of paying taxes properly.

This Treaty is an enactment of measures of Judicial Reform Laws:
EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY: The State Welfare and Child Support Enforcement Comprehensive Reform Act of 2011-2012

Limitations of federal law in regards to immigration reform laws, taxation, and admittance into individual states: Article I, Sec. 9 - U.S. Constitution
The Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight, but a tax or duty may be imposed on such Importation, not exceeding ten dollars for each Person.

This is known as the 1808 Law: which means, after a state receives immigrants after the year of 1808, taxes and duties apply to immigration. This also implies a model that must be followed to graft in citizens. Had states followed this model, our system of taxation and judiciary would not have been burdened with this task.

This law also means that states after 1808, were permitted to accept admittance of immigrants at a rate of 1,808 per year. Not all states were admitted in 1808 at that time, but this means annually states should have processed 90,400 applications for citizenship and tax forms for payment. If this policy would have been followed in its correct interpretation for 200 years, the number of immigrants that would be legally documented workers and taxpaying citizens would be the number of 18,080,000 by 2008.

To begin the registration process, one may take $10 and register themselves at their county courthouse, of their identity and residential address, or Tax Assessor’s Office to expedite the citizenship process:

This is to demonstrate basic compliance with the law. Anyone who does not register within their county, is subject to applicable fines.

With a $16 trillion dollar deficit, the integrity and power of Congress to lay and collect taxes has been jeopardized by the failure to let the Bush Tax Cuts expire and properly fund Congress’ salary without borrowing.

See 2012 Budget

See 2013 Budget

This war-time policy promised to voters was to offset the inflation that would be incurred by massive borrowing. While the Treasury’s debts have been rectified for this borrowing, the Reconciliation Act H.R. 4872 did not address these issues: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1jK6-kGCB_Dbb5K98YSS9o9kSNBwLJsSb7XQ5GQSvTks/edit?authkey=CIS_je8I&authkey=CIS_je8I
but attempted to buyout the entire health insurance market, along with mortgages through bank-rescue measures and auto companies. Essentially, the government attempted to justify control of the entire economy, instead of simply buying up the mortgages to save people from losing their homes and incurring debt. The government simply can not usurp all forms of private debt, and lump them into public debt as a part of its balance sheet

REPEAL AND REPLACE, PART 2:
Health Care Reform Act of 2012: Standardization of Procedural and Medical Care Related Costs

Audit the FED has been proposed to expose and reform governmental practices that are unconstitutional, regarding banking schemes and debt levied against the dollar.
Other reforms have been enacted to stabilize the economy:

“THE ECONOMIC STABILIZATION ACT OF 2011-2012” also known as the “Government Gluttony Reform Act of 2011”:

The Currency Reform Act of 2012 in relation to Treasury Reserves of Value and Worth: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1LzpO9gkApfHBEveEJLq5_qBuGkxr8Ll4_NVt7fKv4Vw/edit?pli=1

To restore integrity to government function with the Treasury debt of war satisfied, it is necessary to address paying Congress their legitimate salary, and whatever cuts to their salary or budget may be necessary to offset the debt created by the Bush Tax Cuts. Without Tax Reform in place and IRS Reform, taxpaying voters see taxation and Obamacare not as health care, but remuneration repealed by the House. Essentially, it is Obamatax, without addressing real substantive health reform or creating a federal program for the uninsured, because abortions are not an ethical or adequate funding mechanism for services rendered.

Therefore, there has been much discussion over what is a fair share of taxes and who is paying their fair share. The government provides a service. Typically, a service does not exceed 20% of income. It is very important to not burden the middle class, who has been buried under inflation and a heavy income tax bracket that is 35% in addition to the 7% sales tax paid to the state. Democrats do not seem to understand how paying Congress a legitimate salary irons out the bloating from having to borrow to pay Congress, when the interest is $600-$700 billion.

The Path to Prosperity Budget Plan specifically discusses cuts, closing loopholes, and how to properly fund a budget. The Tea Party discussed their differences on the proposal, and budgetarily how to meet the goals of our proposed budget plans:

  • We met this budget for 2012, and we whittled Obamatax down to a $400 billion block appropriation in the Joint Continuing Resolution, using these collectively applied budget techniques from the Path to Prosperity and The Tea Party Budgets proposed

We are not proposing a $5 trillion dollar tax cut:

  • what we are proposing is that everyone file an annual statement of worth, and pay 20% of that statement. Those who are on public assistance will have to take a 7% reduction in Social Security and TANF, that will be payments made back into the program, and they will have to file a 7% statement of what they gave to charity, show where they paid 7% of their statement of worth in state sales tax

THIS TAX REFORM PLAN ENSURES THAT EVERYONE IS PAYING TAXES AND ACCOUNTING WHAT FOR WHAT THEY HAVE PAID IN TAXES.
USUALLY, SOMEONE WHOSE INCOME IS UNDER $20,000 MAY BE EXEMPT FROM TAXES, BUT AN ANNUAL STATEMENT OF WORTH PREVENTS PILLAGING OF GOVERNMENT PROGRAMS BY THOSE WHO ARE NOT TRULY NEEDY, AND IT FORCES THE RICH WHO HAVE USED LAWYERS TO EVADE PAYING TAXES TO ACCOUNT FOR THEIR WEALTH AND PAY A PERCENTAGE OF TAXES FROM IT ANNUALLY.

ANY SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER THAT DOES NOT FILE FOR 2012, OR USES GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE WILL BE RED-FLAGGED FOR AN AUDIT, BASED ON THE FOLLOWING REFORMS:

INSTITUTING WORK/INCOME AND WEIGHT REPORTING REQUIREMENTS FOR PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS AT STATE LEVEL

Social Security Entitlement Restrictions and Structural Reform Act of 2012
(Family Welfare, Family as the governing unit of Society in relation to government subsidies)  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ocpbGsEGdurMv_5XCedlFMbLV8L_6nwd1NlLM4y17XY/edit

HEALTH CARE REFORM RESIGNATION AND ENTITLEMENT REFORM APPROPRIATION ACT OF 2012, effective 1/1/12:

THOSE WHO ARE WEALTHY THAT FILE WILL BE ASSESSED AT A RATE OF 21% OF THEIR WORTH, NOT THEIR INCOME.

FOR FAR TOO LONG, THE MIDDLE CLASS HAS PICKED UP THE TAB TO SUBSIDIZE GOVERNMENT, AND THE RICH HAVE EVADED THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY TAXES JUST LIKE THE POOR.

“BROADENING THE BASE” IS A TERM FOR REVENUE ASSESSMENT, COLLECTION, AND RETENTION:
  • REVENUE WILL BE ASSESSED BASED ON A 20% MARGIN ACROSS THE BOARD, GOVERNMENT IS A SERVICE, AND YOU FUND THE GOVERNMENT YOU WANT TO HAVE.
  • EXISTING REVENUE WILL BE COLLECTED BY FILING AND ACCOUNTING AN ANNUAL STATEMENT OF WORTH, AT AGE 18.
  • RETENTION OF REVENUE WILL REQUIRE BASIC PAY-BACK INTO PROGRAMS TO ENSURE THAT FUNDS EXIST TO OPERATE, OR CUTS. SOME PROGRAMS WILL BE MODIFIED OR DONE AWAY WITH, AS ALREADY OUTLINED.

THIS IS REAL EXISTING REVENUE THAT WAS NOT PREVIOUSLY COLLECTED OR ACCOUNTED FOR, TO PREVENT BORROWING TO PAY FOR ANY PART OF THE GOVERNMENT’S BUDGET.

THIS IS WHAT IS CALLED ESTIMATED TAX, IF YOU MEET THOSE REQUIREMENTS:

EACH PERSON SHOULD HAVE ON FILE AN ANNUAL STATEMENT OF WORTH, READY AND ACCESSIBLE TO THE IRS, A FOLDER THAT PROVES THE FOLLOWING:

-SHOW SOURCE OR PROOF OF INCOME (SOCIAL SECURITY OR PAY STUBS), FOR THOSE WHO OWN A SMALL BUSINESS THAT IS SALES DRIVEN, A COPY OF PRINTED PHYSICAL RECORDS FROM ONLINE SALES OR TYPED COPY OF SALES WITH SALES AND USE TAX PAID TO STATE OFFICE
-ACCOUNT FOR 7% OF CHARITABLE DEDUCTIONS
-PROVIDE RECEIPTS AND RECORDS FOR 7% OF SALES TAX PAID TO THE STATE

ANYTHING THAT YOU WOULD NEED TO FILE A 1040-EZ, WITH THE EXCEPTION YOUR NEW ANNUAL STATEMENT OF WORTH WOULD SUFFICE TO SUBSTANTIATE YOUR RECORDS AND TAXES DUE.

SEND A COPY OF THESE RECORDS ANNUALLY TO THE IRS, AND TO THE STATE, AS REQUIRED FOR SALES TAX COLLECTION. THIS ASSURES YOU HAVE DONE YOUR PART TO NOT MISREPRESENT YOUR INCOME OR EVADE PAYING TAXES, AS YOU HAVE PRESENTED AN ACCOUNTING.

WHAT HAPPENS IS SOME ARE NOT PAYING THEIR TAXES WHATSOEVER, AND OTHERS ARE EVADING PAYING THE TAXES THAT THEY SHOULD PAY. THIS IS PARTICULARLY TRUE OF CORPORATIONS, WHO MUST ACCOUNT NOW FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO MAKE THEIR LIVING OFF OF STOCK TRADES OR INVESTMENTS. THEY MUST FILE A STATEMENT OF WORTH, AND PAY ACCORDINGLY.

IN ORDER TO CURTAIL GOVERNMENT PROGRAM COSTS, OR IF A BUSINESS CAN NOT AFFORD TO PAY 7% OF THEIR ANNUAL WORTH IN CASH, THEY MUST ASSIST GOVERNMENT IN GOODS OR SERVICES AND ACCOUNT FOR THAT IN THEIR ANNUAL STATEMENT.

UNCERTAINTY CREATED BY THE CURRENT TAX CODE WILL BE ELIMINATED BY APPLYING THESE REFORMS TO THE CURRENT SYSTEM.

THE IRS WILL BE LOOKING FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE NOT PAID TAXES, ESPECIALLY THOSE ON PUBLIC ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS, OR THOSE WHO ARE HIGH-INCOME INDIVIDUALS WHO EVADE PAYING THEIR PORTION AND PERCENTAGE.

THE TAX CODE MUST BE UNIFORM, FAIR, AND SUSTAIN THE SERVICES PEOPLE EXPECT GOVERNMENT TO PROVIDE: DEFENSE, PATENTS, COURTS, AND DIPLOMACY IN THAT ORDER OF APPROPRIATION.

RATHER THAN LOOKING AT THIS AS REVENUE REDUCTION, THIS IS REVENUE ACCRUAL, AS THIS REVENUE WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN COLLECTED BEFORE.

ALL OF THESE PEOPLE WILL BE PAYING SOME FORM OF TAXES THAT THEY WEREN’T PAYING BEFORE:

1) About 46.4 percent of U.S. households didn’t pay federal income taxes in 2011. Mitt Romney’s right about that.
(Tax Policy Center)
2) That number is abnormally high right now in part due to the recession and slow recovery. When people lose their jobs or see their paychecks drop, they tend to pay fewer income taxes as well. (That’s why the budget deficit tends to increase in a bad economy.) Additionally, Congress has passed a slew of tax cuts as part of its stimulus efforts. So that’s skewed the number of nonpayers. When the economy’s at full employment, as it was in 2007, it’s usually only about 40 percent of U.S. households that aren’t paying income taxes:
(Center on Budget and Policy Priorities)
3) The vast majority of households that don’t pay federal income taxes are either elderly or paying payroll taxes. As you can see below, 60 percent of those who don’t pay income tax are still working and paying taxes for Social Security and Medicare. Their tax liability is just too low to qualify for the income tax. Another 22 percent of non-payers are retirees.
Only about 7.9 percent of households are not paying any federal taxes at all. That’s usually because they’re either unemployed or on disability or students or are very poor.
(Tax Policy Center)
4) Many low-income workers don’t pay federal income taxes thanks, in part, to a series of tax cuts endorsed by Republicans over the years. The graph below from the Tax Policy Center shows why so many workers who do earn income don’t have to pay the income tax. They’re exempt under various provisions of the tax code.
For instance, most (though not all) elderly households are excluded from paying taxes on their Social Security benefits. And low-income workers with children can qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit or the Child Tax Credit. As Keith Hennessey explains, the latter was a major GOP initiative during the 1990s and 2000s, and conservatives used to tout them as vital poverty-reduction measures:

5) The number of people who don’t pay federal income taxes tends to jump every time there’s a big tax cut bill, as after the 1986 tax reform or the 2001 Bush tax cuts. There’s a reason why George W. Bush was boasting, in 2004, about moving 5 million taxpayers “off the rolls.” He didn’t think he was creating an army of Obama voters. He thought it was good policy:

(Heritage)
6) About 30 percent of workers had a negative income tax in 2011, thanks to the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which gives them a big refund. But these beneficiaries tend to leave the program fairly quickly. Many low-income workers actually receive extra money through the tax code, thanks to the EITC. Again, this is an anti-poverty program long supported by Republicans.
What research has shown, however, is that most EITC recipients only get the credit for two consecutive years or less. Many of them soon move up the income ladder and start paying taxes back into the system. One paper found that, over their lifetime, these EITC recipients pay more in taxes than they receive in benefits:
(Center on Budget and Policy Priorities)
7) Over their full lifetime, the vast majority of workers end up paying income taxes and federal taxes. As this graph  from the Hamilton project shows, it’s mainly the very young and the very old who aren’t paying income taxes. The vast majority of workers pay income taxes during their prime years, and an even higher percentage of Americans pay into Medicare and Social Security throughout their lives:
8) Federal taxes are just part of the picture. Most Americans also pay state and local taxes, such as sales taxes. These tend to be more regressive and hit lower-income groups harder. Here’s what the system looks like when you add up all taxes:
(Citizens for Tax Justice)

AS YOU CAN SEE, THE PROBLEM IS NOT SO MUCH THE LOOPHOLES AND TAX SHELTERS AS IT IS PEOPLE REFUSING TO PAY TAXES WHATSOEVER, REGARDLESS OF THEIR INCOME OR STATUS. THE ANNUAL STATEMENT OF WORTH ASSURES A REGULAR COLLECTION THAT WOULD NOT TAKE PLACE USING THE CURRENT MODEL OF COLLECTION FROM INCOME AND PAYROLL TAXES.

THIS TOTALS 150 MILLION THAT WILL BE PAYING IN TAXES THAT HAVEN’T PAID IN BEFORE, BY USING THIS MODEL OF COLLECTION...

30 MILLION WHO ARE UNEMPLOYED WILL BEGIN PAYING INCOME TAX BACK IN:

THE ELDERLY AND THOSE IN NEED WILL BE PAYING BACK INTO PROGRAMS AND WE HAVE A 25% YOUTH POPULATION THAT WILL BE REPLACING THE AGING POPULATION OF 13% AS NEW TAXPAYERS IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

May this Treaty, hereby be ratified by the Senate of the United States, in accordance to existing laws, and may the House of Representatives pass such laws as applicable to uphold Tax Reform measures herein; be it decided upon as 1986 Tax Reform with Chained CPI, or some other legislation that reflects base budgeting policies and individual taxation models for pro-growth initiatives.

THE REAL RACISTS, ARE OBAMA AND HOLDER: CONVINCING BLACKS THEY ARE TOO POOR, AND TO ABORT THEIR CHILDREN, SO THE MONEY FROM THE MURDER-FOR-PROFIT ABORTION CLINIC GOES TO THEIR CAMPAIGN FUNDS INSTEAD:

"Colored people are like human weeds and are to be exterminated", said the founder of Planned Parenthood, Americas largest abortion provider.

The founder of Planned Parenthood also said, "We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population..." She went on to say they should use BLACK ministers (you know like Rev. Jackson and Rev Sharpton) to castigate any "rebellious" BLACKS (like me) who would dare tell the truth about the abortion agenda.

And now in College Park, GA , perhaps the BLACKEST city in all of Metro Atlanta, we find out, with no help from major news outlets, that Eric Holder's wife own's an abortion clinic. Holder's abortion clinic, based on its location, was essentially dedicated to the murder of BLACK babies.

The Democrat front group that we call "the news media" covered up the Eric Holder connection. But, when they found out Rick Perry owned a property, with the words "Niggerhead" inscribed on one of the rocks on the property, its national news for days!

What property has witnessed the death of more BLACKS, the "Niggerhead" rock that Rick Perry owned or the abortion house owned by Eric Holder's wife and sister in law? Liberals insult my intelligence.

The Founder of Planned Parenthood, in her book 'Pivot of Civilization', referred to BLACKS as "human weeds", "reckless breeders", that are "spawning... human beings who never should have been born." Where is he media? I have never heard a single story on this in the mainstream press.

How is it that Democrats like Eric Holder are allowed to consistently market themselves as a friend to BLACKS, immigrants, and the poor when they are constantly acting not just against our best interest but against the best interest of the human race.

The Founder of Planned Parenthood, in her book 'Pivot of Civilization', referred to BLACKS as "human weeds" and "reckless breeders" that are "spawning... human beings who never should have been born." Where is the media? I have never heard a single story on this in the main stream press.

Let me be clear, Eric Holder and his wife were either profiting from killing unborn BLACK BABIES or they were allowing the abortionist to use the building that they owned for free.

Perhaps if they put all of Mr. and Mrs. Holder's little aborted BLACK baby body parts in one bin, and the heads in another bin labeled "NIGGERHEADS" the media will cover the story. Then again....maybe not.

(Michael Harris)

This from the article linked below:

Eric Holder Jr.’s family is moving fast and furiously to bury the U.S. Attorney General’s ties to one of Georgia’s most notorious abortion doctors.

Just cleared by an internal report in the “Fast and Furious” gunrunning debacle, the nation’s top lawman now faces allegations that his connection to Dr. Tyrone Cecil Malloy is a conflict of interest that helps explain Holder’s failure to prosecute abortion providers who run afoul of federal law.

Critics say it may also explain why Holder has been eager to prosecute pro-life advocates who counsel women outside abortion clinics.

Documents obtained by Watchdog show that Holder’s wife and sister-in-law co-own, through a family trust, the building where Malloy operated. A Georgia grand jury indicted Malloy on Medicaid fraud charges in 2011. A state medical board twice reprimanded the doctor.

Holder and his wife, Sharon Malone Holder, an obstetric and gynecological doctor at Foxhall OB/GYN in Washington, D.C., failed to respond to several requests for comment.

But reached by phone at her home in Minneapolis, Margie Malone Tuckson, Holder’s sister-in-law, said there’s no link at all — that Fulton County tax records showing the property belongs to her and Holder’s wife “are wrong.”

“I don’t own this property and my sister does not own this property. We are not technically on this deed,” Malone Tuckson said.

However, public documents reviewed by Watchdog.org show that the family transferred ownership to a family trust in 2009, eight months after President Barack Obama’s inauguration. But even the new deed directly names Holder’s wife and sister-in-law as trustees. After inquiries by Watchdog reporters, Tuckson contacted the Fulton County Assessor’s office and asked them to change tax records to reflect the “new” ownership.

But none of these technical changes obscures the Holders’ conflict of interest. Catherine Davis, a founding member of the National Black Prolife Coalition and president and founder of The Restoration Project — a Stone Mountain, Ga.-based pro-life, pro-family organization — said she’s outraged by the revelations.

“There is a clear conflict of interest when the man charged with pursuing those that abuse the system is also one who is engaged in some way with the business,” said Davis, whose organization brought the issue to the attention of Watchdog.

Jamie Dimon is under fire

Shareholders will vote on whether JPMorgan should appoint an independent chairman at its annual meeting on May 21.
NEW YORK (CNNMoney)

May 21, 2013, the day of JPMorgan Chase's annual shareholder meeting, is judgment day for Jamie Dimon. Signs are mounting that the judgment could be harsh.

JPMorgan Chase's (JPM, Fortune 500) larger-than-life CEO appeared to survive the London Whale -- the bank's big bet on derivatives that resulted in nearly $6 billion in losses -- with his power undiminished.
But one year later, he is under fire from a wide swath of shareholders who are pushing the board to strip him of his role of chairman.
On top of that, one of the most influential shareholder advisory firms, ISS Proxy Advisory Services, also recommended that shareholders vote against three of the bank's long-serving board members. The three directors, Honeywell (HON, Fortune 500) CEO David Cote, private investment adviser Henry Crown, and the American Museum of National History's CEO Ellen Futtter, all served on the bank's risk oversight committee, and were most responsible for overseeing the trading operations that led to the London Whale losses.
Glass Lewis, another shareholder advisory firm, also advised clients to push for an independent chairman. Glass Lewis went even further than ISS and told clients to vote against 6 of the 11 board members who are up for re-election.
If these groups hold sway, Jamie Dimon could be faced with a new, less agreeable board.
ISS also criticized JPMorgan's entire board for a lack of independence. In the face of the massive London Whale trading losses, "the board appears to have been largely reactive, making changes only when it was clear that it could no longer maintain the status quo," ISS said.
David Larcker, a professor of corporate governance at Stanford Graduate School of Business, said ISS typically succeeds at influencing the votes of between 25% to 30% of shareholders.
Last year, 40% of the company's shareholders voted to replace Dimon with an independent chairman. But shareholders were more willing to keep the same board in place. Of JPMorgan's 11 directors, 10 received more than 95% of a vote to keep them. Ellen Futter received the least support, and she was still backed by 86% of shareholders.
Shareholder votes don't necessarily dictate a board's actions. Corporate boards are only meant to use these votes to inform their decisions. Even if a majority of shareholders ask for an independent chairman, the board doesn't have to comply.
That said, a vote against the status quo can become a public relations nightmare for the bank.
"Once you start getting this push from outside shareholders, it becomes a long, time consuming thing for the board and the bank," said Stanford's Larcker.
ISS isn't the only shareholder who has been actively pushing for Dimon to exit his chairmanship.
The nation's largest public pension system Calpers has pushed for an independent chairman at the bank for several years. But this year, Joe Dear, Calper's chief investment officer, said pension funds holding JPMorgan shares have been more proactive in coordinating their votes.
To be fair, Dimon is still revered for his work leading the bank through the financial crisis and even past the London Whale debacle. But some of the largest shareholders that praise his work also think the bank would fare better if his power was diminished.
"Jamie Dimon is one of the most talented CEOs in the world," said Dear. "With [his] outsize personality, it's important to split the jobs of chairman and CEO. It's a bedrock principal of corporate governance."
The board has said it will back Dimon as both its CEO and chairman. In the runup to the May 21 meeting, the bank is actively talking to shareholders to help convince them that Dimon is needed in both roles and why their board members should be re-elected.
In an SEC filing, the company's board said Dimon as CEO and chairman is "the most effective leadership model for the Firm."
Still, some shareholders, such as revered Berkshire Hathaway (BRKA, Fortune 500)chief Warren Buffett who personally own the bank's shares, still think Dimon is the right man for both jobs. (Berkshire Hathaway is not a shareholder).
At his annual shareholder meeting in Omaha, Neb., Buffett told Bloomberg Television: "I couldn't think of a better chairman."

BOYCOTT THE ANTI-GUN LOBBY, YOUR PURCHASES ARE PAYING FOR POLITICS:

by Aja Brooks (Notes) on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at 10:03am
Volkswagen – Most recently lobbies against legislation to permit employees to keep firearms in their cars at work.
Bank of America – Recently told McMillan Group they no longer wanted their business because they were a firearms company.
Dannon Yogurt – Supports licensing and handgun registration, gave $150,000 to the so-called Million Mom March.
Ben & Jerry’s – Expensive ice cream for the Birkenstock Brigade. Has given hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Children’s Defense Fund over the years. CDF is an outspoken anti-gun group and fought hard to support the Washington DC gun ban before it was overturned by the Supreme Court in the Heller case.
Sara Lee Corporation – L’eggs panty hose, Hanes underwear, Ball Park franks, and Hillshire Farm smoked sausage. Sounds like a kinky party but it’s really a recipe for funnelling money to the Brady Center to Prevent Handgun Violence.
Levi Strauss Corp. – expensive jeans to pay for gun-control advocacy. Buy Wranglers instead.
Walt Disney Co. – Chaiman/CEO and President both serve on the board of CeaseFire, Inc.
Hasbro – Chairman, Pres. and CEO serves on the board of CeaseFire, Inc. Every action figure and Transformers movie ticket helps fund CeaseFire and other gun control groups.
MTV – Chairman serves on board of CeaseFire Inc. The music and the videos are bad enough. Not only are they trying to corrupt your kids, they want to re-write your Constitution.
Toys-’R-Us – Sells toy guns, but doesn’t want you to have real ones to protect the kids your buy the toys for.
Hyatt Hotels – Overpriced luxury hotel for snobby elitists. They take the extra they scam from you and spend it to advocate disarming you.
7-Eleven – Apparently only the people who rob the 7-Elevens are allowed to have guns.
America Online (AOL) – Remember back when there was dial-up internet? There was this cool service called AOL…you don’t? Me neither.
Hallmark Cards – Roses are red, violets are blue, give me your guns or we’ll take them from you.
Kenneth Cole – Clothing for metrosexual men and unrealistically skinny women, priced with just enough markup to cover the cost of gun-control advocacy.
Kansas City Royals – If they would focus on winning baseball games and not on supporting gun control maybe they wouldn’t suck.
Kansas City Chiefs – If they would focus on winning football games and not on supporting gun control maybe they wouldn’t suck.
Sprint Corp – First they buy NASCAR, now they want your guns.
Stoneyfield Farms Yogurt – To think I used to buy their yogurt for my daughter. I feel so dirty.
St. Louis Rams – If they would focus on winning football games and not on supporting gun control maybe they wouldn’t suck. I’m sensing a pattern here…
Time Warner Inc. – When you have cable, your cable company takes some of your fees and gives it to anti-gun groups. When your cable company gives to anti-gun groups, the anti-gun groups lobby for “sensible gun control”. Switch to DirecTV.
Broderbund Software – Chairman serves on the board of CeaseFire, Inc. I can’t name a single piece of software that they sell, but they must sell enough to give to anti-gun groups.
GAP Inc. – CEO serves on board of CeaseFire, Inc. Overpriced, overhyped clothing marked up to help pay for gun-control advocacy.
Google – The world’s largest online search engine has begun restricting searches for firearms info.  If you want to find info on guns for sale online, Google is not a good place to search.  I don’t use Google’s search engine at all anymore as a result of this and due to their policy of saving and selling your search info.  Try using DuckDuckGo, instead.  They don’t collect info on you or restrict your searches.
NBC - Bob Costas’ anti-gun rant in December 2012 on Sunday Night Football caused quite a stir and was commented on here. Costas would not have been allowed to vent his personal opinion if it were not okay with management and he suffered no ill effects from the outcry his comments caused. His statements were not isolated, though. Back in April 2012 the news division ran a hit piece on Remington arms, suggesting that their shotguns are defective, citing just 125 incidents in over 40 years. The story featured a paid “expert” whose experience is to serve as an expert witness in lawsuits against gun manufacturers. The expert attacked a Remington shotgun with a sledgehammer on video, trying to make it go off, but could not. But that did not stop them from suggesting that there should be a Federal agency with the authority to force a recall of “defective” firearms. http://craigbushonshow.com/here-is-a-list-of-anti-gun-companies-you-should-know-about-2/Tea Party Chief@2013_TeaParty Protected account 19h

Diplomat: U.S. Special Forces told "you can't go" to Benghazi during attacks

U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were killed in the consulate attack in Benghazi, Libya on Sept. 11, 2012. / CBS NEWS
The deputy of slain U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens has told congressional investigators that a team of Special Forces prepared to fly from Tripoli to Benghazi during the Sept. 11, 2012 attacks was forbidden from doing so by U.S. Special Operations Command Africa.

U.S. diplomat contradicts White House on Benghazi

The account from Gregory Hicks is in stark contrast to assertions from the Obama administration, which insisted that nobody was ever told to stand down and that all available resources were utilized. Hicks gave private testimony to congressional investigators last month in advance of his upcoming appearance at a congressional hearing Wednesday.
According to excerpts released Monday, Hicks told investigators that SOCAFRICA commander Lt. Col. Gibson and his team were on their way to board a C-130 from Tripoli for Benghazi prior to an attack on a second U.S. compound "when [Col. Gibson] got a phone call from SOCAFRICA which said, 'you can't go now, you don't have the authority to go now.' And so they missed the flight ... They were told not to board the flight, so they missed it."
No assistance arrived from the U.S. military outside of Libya during the hours that Americans were under attack or trapped inside compounds by hostile forces armed with rocket-propelled grenades, mortars and AK-47 rifles.
Hicks told congressional investigators that if the U.S. had quickly sent a military aircraft over Benghazi, it might have saved American lives. The U.S. Souda Bay Naval Base is an hour's flight from Libya.

U.S. consulate attack in Libya

"I believe if we had been able to scramble a fighter or aircraft or two over Benghazi as quickly as possible after the attack commenced, I believe there would not have been a mortar attack on the annex in the morning because I believe the Libyans would have split. They would have been scared to death that we would have gotten a laser on them and killed them," Hicks testified. Two Americans died in the morning mortar attack.
Obama administration officials have insisted that no military resources could have made it in time. A White House official told CBS News that, at the start of the attack, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Martin Dempsey and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta "looked at available options, and the ones we exercised had our military forces arrive in less than 24 hours, well ahead of timelines laid out in established policies."
Hicks is expected to be the first ground-level eyewitness to speak publicly in the nearly eight months since the terrorist attacks that killed Ambassador Stevens and three other Americans. When Stevens went missing, Hicks became the Chief of Mission for the U.S. in Libya.
Ambassador Susan Rice and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton initially indicated the attacks were not planned acts of terror, but an outgrowth of a spontaneous protest over an anti-Islamic YouTube video. Unidentified government officials removed references to terrorism and al Qaeda from so-called "talking points" released to the public shortly after the attacks.
Below are the released excerpts from Hicks' April interview with congressional investigators on the House Oversight Committee.
Q: But do you think, you know, if an F-15, if the military had allowed a jet to go fly over, that it might have prevented [the second attack]?
A: Yeah, and if we had gotten clearance from the Libyan military for an American plane to fly over Libyan airspace. The Libyans that I talked to and the Libyans and other Americans who were involved in the war have told me also that Libyan revolutionaries were very cognizant of the impact that American and NATO airpower had with respect to their victory. They are under no illusions that American and NATO airpower won that war for them. And so, in my personal opinion, a fast-mover flying over Benghazi at some point, you know, as soon as possible might very well have prevented some of the bad things that happened that night.
Q : The theory being, the folks on the ground that are doing these -- committing these terrorist attacks look up, see a heavy duty airplane above, and decide to hightail it?
A: I believe that if -- I believe if we had been able to scramble a fighter or aircraft or two over Benghazi as quickly as possible after the attack commenced, I believe there would not have been a mortar attack on the annex in the morning because I believe the Libyans would have split. They would have been scared to death that we would have gotten a laser on them and killed them.
******
Q: I just wanted to ask, you mentioned permission from the Libyans. Why is that important? What did you mean by that?
A: Well, it's their country. And for an American military aircraft to fly over their country, we have to have permission from them to do so.
Q: So what would have been the risk of -- do you think it would have been risky for us to send someone, do you think it would have been counterproductive for us to send a fighter pilot plane over Benghazi without that permission?
A: We would have certainly wanted to obtain that permission. I believe we would have gotten it if we had asked. I believe that the Libyans were hoping that we were going to come bail them out of this mess. And, you know, they were as surprised as we were that American -- the military forces that did arrive only arrived on the evening of September 12. Yeah.
******
Q: So, at this point [at approximately 10:00 pm in Tripoli], you are talking to Washington, you are talking to your RSO Martinec, you are talking to RAO. Are you talking to the Defense Attache?
A: The Defense Attache is there, and he is immediately on the phone to Ministry of Defense and to chief of staff of the Libyan Armed Forces. He also notifies Joint Staff and AFRICOM. Our SOCAFRICA lead, Lieutenant Colonel Gibson, connects with SOCAFRICA in Stuttgart, as well. And, obviously, RAO is also connected back home.
Q: Was there ever any thought at that time of the night to have an F-16, you know, fly over?
A: I called -- when we knew that -- I talked with the Defense Attache, Lt. Col. Keith Phillips, and I asked him, "Is there anything coming?" And he said that the nearest fighter planes were Aviano, that he had been told that it would take two to three hours to get them airborne, but that there were no tanker assets near enough to support a flight from Aviano.
******
A: And for the second time that night [Before 5:15 AM attack], I asked the Defense Attache, is there anything coming, is there anything out there to help our people from, you know, big military? And the answer, again, was the same as before.
Q: And what was that answer?
A: The answer was, it's too far away, there are no tankers, there is nothing, there is nothing that could respond.
******
Q: So you had mentioned that the first team from Tripoli to Benghazi arrived at 1:15?
A: Right.
Q: And was there a second team that was organized? Could you tell us about the second team?
A: Right. The second team -- the Defense Attache worked assiduously all night long to try to get the Libyan military to respond in some way. Early in the morning -- sorry, after we were formally notified by the Prime Minister, who called me, that Chris had passed, the Libyan military agreed to fly their C-130 to Benghazi and carry additional personnel to Benghazi as reinforcements. Because we at that time -- at that time, the third attack, the mortar attack at 5:15, had not yet occurred, if I remember correctly.
Q: So what time did the second rescue team ??
A: Well, again, they flew -- I think that flight took off sometime between 6:00 and 6:30 a.m.
Q: At that point, you are the Chief of Mission?
A: Yeah, I'm Chief of Mission effective 3:00 a.m.
******
Q: Now, did any of the Special Forces folks, were they planning at any time to travel on that second aircraft?
A: On the second, on the C-130? Yes. We fully intended for those guys to go, because we had already essentially stripped ourselves of our security presence, or our security capability to the bare minimum ...
******
A: So Lieutenant Colonel Gibson, who is the SOCAFRICA commander, his team, you know, they were on their way to the vehicles to go to the airport to get on the C-130 when he got a phone call from SOCAFRICA which said, you can't go now, you don't have authority to go now. And so they missed the flight. And, of course, this meant that one of the ...
Q : They didn't miss the flight. They were told not to board the flight.
A: They were told not to board the flight, so they missed it. So, anyway, and yeah. I still remember Colonel Gibson, he said, "I have never been so embarrassed in my life that a State Department officer has bigger balls than somebody in the military." A nice compliment.
Q: Now, at this point, are you having communications with Washington?
A: I was in communications with Washington all night long. I was reporting all night long what was happening to Washington by telephone.
Q: When these Special Forces folks were told essentially to stand down, what was your next move? Did you have a recourse? Were you able to call Washington? Were you able to call anyone at this point to get that decision reversed?
A: No, because the flight was -- the flight was leaving. And, you know, if they missed -- you know, if the vehicles didn't leave when they leave, they would miss the flight time at the airport. And the airport -- you know, we were going all the way to Mitiga. The C-130 is at Mitiga, which is all the way on the other side of Tripoli.
Q: What was the rationale that you were given that they couldn't go, ultimately?
A: I guess they just didn't have the right authority from the right.

HOW DID REST OF THE MEDIA COVER IMPORTANT BENGHAZI HEARINGS? TAKE A LOOK

WASHINGTON, DC – MAY 08: Family members of the four Americans killed in the September 11, 2012 terror attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, are joined by Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) (3rd R) during the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s hearing titled, ‘Benghazi: Exposing Failure and Recognizing Courage’ in the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill May 8, 2013 in Washington, DC. Credit: Getty Images
The highly anticipated and vitally important House Oversight Committee hearing on the deadly Benghazi terrorist attack resulted in several key pieces of information being revealed, bringing the country one step closer to knowing the truth about what really happened on Sept. 11, 2012, at the U.S. compound in Libya.
Three brave whistleblowers came forward on Wednesday and confirmed that there was, in fact, a firm “stand down” order given after the U.S. compound in Benghazi came under attack. Whistleblower Gregory Hicks, the former deputy chief of mission in Libya and the highest ranking official in the country at the time of the attacks, testified that he was “effectively” demoted shortly after questioning talking points that later proved to be demonstrably false. Hicks also revealed that he was told not to speak with an investigating Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) alone.
So, how did the mainstream media cover the story? Well, kind of like it has since the attack occurred — lightly. TheBlaze conducted a review of various outlets’ coverage on Wednesday night at around 8 p.m. CT and took screengrabs of several front pages and accumulated some video. Let’s just go outlet-by-outlet, print and TV, and analyze the coverage.
To its credit, the Huffington Post did have a Benghazi story relatively high on its front page. However, its headline read: “Benghazi Hearing Reveals Incompetence, But No Cover-Up.” The site had some of the important information included in its report, though it was not one of its lead stories.
(HuffingtonPost.com)
CNN’s website led with the Jodi Arias trial and the Ohio kidnappings. There was no mention of the Benghazi hearing anywhere near the top of the front page. However, after scrolling down the page, a small photo and accompanying link was visible under “politics.”
(CNN.com)
Story on Benghazi hearing appeared near bottom of CNN.com’s front page.  (CNN.com)
CBSNews.com also led with the Ohio kidnapping case. Despite the fact that its report headlined, “Benghazi ‘whistleblowers’ head to House committee,” was the most popular story, the top of its front page was dedicated to other stories.
Featured stories on CBS News’ website revolved around the Jodi Arias trial, “awkward moms,” the Boston bombings and several stories on the Ohio kidnappings. About halfway down the page there was a story on the sidebar about the Benghazi hearing. “U.S. diplomats describe night of Benghazi attack.” There was also an additional Benghazi story at the very bottom of the page under “politics.”
(CBSNews.com)
Notice the most popular story (CBSNews.com)
It should be noted that CBS reporter Sharyl Attkisson has been reporting consistently on Benghazi. However, that doesn’t mean her stories always gets the front page treatment.
Further, Politico reported on Wednesday that CBS News is growing “increasingly frustrated” with Attkisson’s Benghazi reporting. Unnamed network sources told Politico that CBS News executives see the reporter “wading dangerously close to advocacy” on the issue.
Fox News was the outlier. Both the Fox News Channel and FoxNews.com provided wall-to-wall coverage for the first few hours of the hearing and continued with steady coverage throughout the day and night.
If you can believe it, out of all the news sites TheBlaze analyzed (other than Fox News), NBCNews.com gave the Benghazi hearing the most prominent placement at the very top of its front page. It wasn’t the lead story, but it was clearly visible at the top of the site. Like the other news sites, there was an additional link to a hearing-related story under “politics” near the bottom of the page.
(NBCNews.com)
Following the trend, ABCNews.com did not lead with the Benghazi hearing on Wednesday evening. Topping its website was the Ohio kidnapping and the Jodi Arias trial, much like its counterparts.
MEANWHILE, THE MEDIA AND THE JURY WERE BUSY STRAPPING JODI ARIAS INTO THE ELECTRIC CHAIR, AND ZAPPING HER BEFORE THE VERDICT HAD BEEN SETTLED FOR SENTENCING, NEGLECTING SEVERAL KEY PIECES OF EVIDENCE:

About seven links down ABC had a story about the hearing in the “latest headlines” tab. Again, the news site also included a link near the bottom of the front page under “politics.”
(ABCNews.com)
TheBlaze.com, led with the Benghazi hearing throughout the day and into the night. Further, four of the top eight stories in terms of front page placement were about the House Oversight Committee hearing on the terror attacks at the same time we viewed the other news sites. TheBlaze TV also provided wall-to-wall coverage and analysis all day.
That brings us to TV coverage, which tends to be a lot less objective than online/print media. Though there are likely more, all of the clips we found in our initial sweep of networks downplaying the Benghazi hearings belong to MSNBC/NBC.
MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow lumped Benghazi into several other GOP “conspiracies,” including concerns about the government stockpiling ammunition.
“The market for this stuff does not stop at the fringe,” she said.
Another MSNBC host, Chris Matthews, argued that Republicans just want to “blame President Obama and Hillary Clinton for this thing called Benghazi. Matthews and MSNBC led with the Ohio kidnapping case.
Watch a part of his Wednesday show via CNN/Washington Free Beacon:
Before the hearing, NBC’s Chuck Todd and MSNBC host Joe Scarborough agreed that the GOP’s Benghazi “conspiracy theory” is not the “holy grail” or the “pathway to victory in 2014.” Neither one appeared to consider that maybe politics is not the driving factor behind the pursuit of the truth in the Benghazi case.
“For this conspiracy theory that some people believe is out there — that the White House was trying to downplay a terrorist attack because of the election — then they did a really poor job of it. Because within three or four days, it was pretty clear to the entire world this was a terrorist attack from a group that had some sort of extremist Al Qaeda ties,” Todd noted.
Coverage and analysis after the hearing’s conclusion appeared to be scarce on the major TV networks.
How do you feel about the coverage given to the Benghazi hearings by the mainstream media? Did they provide enough?

Boston police chief says feds never shared warnings about marathon bomber
FoxNews.com
Boston and Massachusetts law enforcement officials confirmed Thursday that federal agents left them in the dark on the growing warning signs about Tamerlan Tsarnaev in the run-up to the Boston Marathon bombing.
Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis, in testimony on Capitol Hill, said his officers on a joint terrorism task force were never told about an explicit warning from the Russian government or about Tsarnaev's travel to the Chechnya region last year. Davis said he would have liked to have known about that activity, and that it "absolutely" would have merited a second look at Tsarnaev.
Davis and Massachusetts homeland security official Kurt Schwartz testified that their officers were not looped in on Tsarnaev until after the bombing.
"At no time prior to the bombings did any member of the Massachusetts State Police or the fusion center have any information or knowledge about the Tsarnaev brothers," Schwartz said.
Current and former lawmakers at the committee hearing Thursday expressed disbelief at the lack of information-sharing.
"The idea that the feds have this information and it's not shared with the state and locals defies why we create the Department of Homeland Security in the first place," said Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.
Former Sen. Joseph Lieberman, a witness at Thursday's hearing, called the failure to tell Boston police about the brothers "a serious and aggravating omission."
"This may be one of the most significant and painful takeaway lessons," he said.

White House 'horrified' hearing of Syria killings

By JOSH LEDERMAN | Associated Press – Sun, May 5, 2013

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The White House says it is "horrified" by reports that more than 100 people were executed Thursday in a western Syrian town.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest says those responsible for serious human rights and international law violations must be held accountable.
The State Department has cited reports Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime and pro-government forces destroyed Bayda, Syria, with mortar fire, then stormed the town, executing entire families.
Earnest wouldn't comment on an overnight airstrike Israeli warplanes carried out around the Syrian capital. The strike was the second attack by Israelis in three days. Officials say it targeted a shipment of advanced, Iranian-made missiles believed to be bound for Lebanon's Hezbollah militants.
Earnest spoke with reporters aboard Air Force One inflight from Washington to Columbus, Ohio.

In Syria’s war, the lines that matter aren’t red

By Fouad Ajami, Published: May 9

Fouad Ajami, a senior fellow at Stanford University’s Hoover Institution, is the author of “The Syrian Rebellion” and “Dream Palace of the Arabs: A Generation's Odyssey.”
It is rarely a good idea to draw maps in a hurry. But that is what colonial cartographers did in the Arab world after the First World War, and the borders they painted were superimposed on old tribal and religious attachments that long predated the new states.
Today, the folly of those lines is made clear, as Syria’s war threatens not just that country’s territorial unity but that of its neighbors as well.
Alas, it was perhaps optimistic to ever imagine that the fighting between Syria’s Alawite regime and the Sunni-led rebellion would remain within the country’s borders. Syria is at once the pivot and a mirror of the Fertile Crescent, and its sectarian and ethnic fissures reproduce themselves in neighboring Arab states. As an oddly passive President Obama ponders what he might do in Syria — and whether to do anything at all — he should be less preoccupied with red lines of his own making than with the blurring of the lines drawn in Arab sands decades ago.
On the map, Tripoli, on the Mediterranean Sea, lies within the borders of Lebanon and is the country’s second-largest city. But Tripoli, staunchly Sunni, with an Alawite minority, has always been within the orbit of the Syrian city of Homs. So it is no mystery that a deadly conflict now rages in Tripoli between Sunni and Alawite neighborhoods, rendering the place ungovernable. Sunni jihadists and preachers see the Syrian struggle as their own, an opportunity to evict the Alawites from their midst and to restore Sunni primacy.
Look to Iraq, on Syria’s eastern border, for the region’s quintessential artificial entity. Today, the government in Baghdad, Shiite-led for the first time in a millennium, sides with the Alawite dictatorship in Damascus. But in western Iraq, the Sunni strongholds of Anbar province and Mosul have been stirred up by the Syrian rebellion. The same tribes straddle the border between the two countries. Smugglers and traders, and now Sunni warriors, pay that border no heed.
The American war upended the order of things in Iraq; the Sunni minority lost out to the Shiites and bristled under that change of fortunes. The Syrian rebellion, a Sunni upheaval against an Alawite minority, has been a boon to the Sunnis of Iraq. The Sunnis have bottomless grievances against the government of Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki. To them, Maliki, who spent a quarter-century exiled in Syria and Iran, is an agent of the Iranian theocracy. So even though the regime in Syria did its best to subvert the new order in Baghdad — between 2003 and 2009, Syria was the transit point for jihadists converging on Iraq to fight the Americans and the Shiites — the Maliki government, with oil money, and anchored in the power of the (Shiite) Dawa party, is throwing a lifeline to the Syrian dictator.
The Shiite appetite in Iraq has grown with the eating. Anti-terrorism laws and the provisions of de-Baathification have been unleashed on the Sunnis, and the forces of order have become instruments of the Maliki government. Thousands languish in prison on spurious charges, and protests have broken out in Sunni cities. The Syrian conflict has added fuel to the fire. If the Sunnis needed proof that the Shiite coalition in the region (comprising Iran, the Iraqi state, the Alawite regime in Damascus and Hezbollah in Lebanon) is hell-bent on robbing them of their historic place in Iraq, their government’s tilt toward Bashar al-Assad provided it.
It was a matter of time before these millennial conflicts were given new life by the Syrian civil war, which has acquired the passion of a religious calling. So Shiite warriors from Iraq and Lebanon flock to Syria today, they tell us, to protect the shrine of Sayyida Zeinab in the eastern suburbs of Damascus. It is easy work for Hasan Nasrallah, the secretary general of Hezbollah, to dispatch young foot soldiers to Damascus and drape his support for the Syrian dictator in the garb of religious duty.
Terrorist groups, Nasrallah said on April 30, had threatened to overrun and destroy the shrine. “If such a crime were to take place, it will carry with it grave consequences,” he warned. “Countries supporting these groups will be held responsible for this crime.”
Nasrallah is not a subtle man. He proclaimed nothing less than a sectarian war over Syria: “Syria has real friends in the region, and the world will not allow Syria to fall into the hands of America, Israel and the takfiri groups,” or militant Islamists. Nasrallah, very much in the tradition of Maliki in Baghdad, offended the Sunnis in his own country. Sunni preachers in Beirut, Sidon and Tripoli have called on their own to rise to the defense of the Syrian rebellion.
The schism over Syria was given away in a Pew survey released May 1 that found 91 percent of Lebanon’s Shiites had a favorable opinion of Assad, and 8 percent held an unfavorable one. The results among the country’s Sunnis were the reverse: 7 percent favorable, 92 percent unfavorable. Such estrangement in a small, claustrophobic country!
Syria’s war plays out differently among its neighbors. Jordan, through no choice of its own, is caught up in the struggle as southern Syria, for all practical purposes, spills over its border. An estimated 500,000 Syrians have made their way into Jordan — almost a staggering 10 percent of that country’s population. Jordan is overwhelmingly Sunni, so it has been spared the virulence of the vendettas blowing through Iraq and Lebanon. But it has its own fault line — between a secular monarchy and a strong Muslim Brotherhood. The Brotherhood is invested in the success of the rebellion in Syria, and the monarchy is on edge. It can’t close its border in the face of the Syrians, and it struggles to cope with a huge economic burden amid its own scarcities. It waits for deliverance — help from the Gulf Arabs and from the United States — and prays for an end to this war from hell.
Israel is, of course, a Syrian neighbor apart. Wisely, it initially kept a policy of benign yet watchful neglect of this fight. There was no love lost for the Syrian dictatorship but no faith that the rebels would make better neighbors if and when they came to power. On the one hand, the dictatorship, under Assad and his father before him, had kept the peace on the Israeli-Syrian border. But the Syrians had also stoked tensions on the Lebanese-Israeli frontier and had given Iran access to the Mediterranean, so perilously close to Israel. It was the better part of wisdom to steer clear of Syria’s fire.
But alleged Israeli airstrikes over Damascus in recent days have demonstrated the limits of Israel’s patience. The targets were depots of Iranian missiles, meant to be delivered to Hezbollah. These missiles had a range of 200 miles and could carry half-ton warheads. The Israelis made good on their “red line.” They would not permit Hezbollah that kind of power over their security.
Even with all this instability, I don’t believe that the borders of the Fertile Crescent will be erased. Western Iraq will not secede and join Syria, nor will Tripoli slip into Syria. But a Syria ruled by a Sunni majority would rewrite the rules of the region’s politics.

It could put an end to the militarization of Syrian society that has wrecked that country. Free of despotism, the Syrian middle class might erect the foundations of a more open and merciful nation. Syria is a land of merchants and commerce, and therein lies the hope that a better country could emerge from this ruin.
Lebanon, too, would be given a chance at normalcy. The power of Hezbollah in that country has derived to a great extent from the power of the Syrian dictatorship. If Syria is transformed, Lebanon must change as well, and the power of Hezbollah could be cut down to size. Utopia will not visit the region after the fall of the Syrian tyranny, but there is no denying that a better politics may take hold in Syria and in its immediate neighborhood.
The remarkable thing about this drawn-out fight, now entering its third year, is the passivity of the United States. A region of traditional American influence has been left to fend for itself.
Of course, these sectarian enmities do not lend themselves to an outsider’s touch. Nor did Obama call up these furies; they cannot be laid at his doorstep. But the unwillingness of his administration to make a clean break with Assad helped radicalize the Syrian rebellion. The landscape would have been altered by American help. A no-fly zone near the border with Turkey could have sheltered and aided the rebels. An early decision to arm the rebellion would have leveled the killing field. Four of the president’s principal foreign policy advisers from his first term advocated giving weapons to the rebels — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta, CIA Director David Petraeus and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Martin Dempsey. But the president overrode them, his caution of no help in a conflict of such virulence.
Under the gaze of the world, Obama instead drew a red line on the use of chemical weapons and warned that his calculus would change if these weapons were used or moved around. He thus placed his credibility in the hands of the Syrian dictator and, in the midst of a storm of his own making, fell back on lawyerly distinctions.
A Greater Middle East, an Islamic world, used to American campaigns of rescue — Kuwait in 1991, Bosnia in 1995, Kosovo in 1999, Afghanistan in 2001, Iraq in 2003, Libya in 2011 — is now witnessing the ebb of American power and responsibility. Obama has held his fire in the face of great slaughter, and truth be known, congressional and popular opinion have given him a pass. America has wearied of Middle Eastern wars.
Syrian rebels sure that the American cavalry would turn up after this or that massacre have been bitterly disappointed. It’s the tragic luck of the Syrians that their rebellion has happened on the watch of an American president who has made a fetish of caution, who has seen the risks of action and overlooked the consequences of abdication.

Syria will ‘respond immediately’ to any Israeli strike
Friday, 10 May 2013Syrian President Bashar al-Assad at a press conference in 2009. (File Photo: AFP)
AFP, Damascus -
Syria has threatened an immediate response to any new Israeli strike, as its militant ally Hezbollah said Damascus would provide “game-changing” weapons despite two reported attacks on military sites.
Damascus also welcomed a U.S.-Russian initiative to find a political solution to end the two-year-old civil war, while balking at Washington’s demand that President Bashar al-Assad would need to stand down.
The Assad regime also said it was ready to receive a U.N. team to probe claims that chemical weapons had been used in the country.
Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Muqdad told AFP on Thursday that “the instruction has been made to respond immediately to any new Israeli attack without [additional] instruction from any higher leadership, and our retaliation will be strong and will be painful against Israel.”
Senior Israeli sources have said strikes early Friday and Sunday targeted weapons bound for the powerful Shiite group Hezbollah based in neighboring Lebanon, but Muqdad denied that.
In Beirut, Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah said Syria would supply his movement with “game-changing weapons” and open up the front to “resistance fighters” against the Jewish state on the Golan Heights.
Israel captured the Golan from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day war and subsequently annexed it.
Israel has repeatedly warned that it will intervene to prevent the transfer of advanced weaponry to Hezbollah, with which it fought a 2006 war.
Hezbollah is battling alongside Assad’s troops in several parts of the country.
The regime is relying increasingly on its alliance with Hezbollah, and Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar quoted Assad as saying that Syria would “give Hezbollah everything” for its loyalty.
The military and the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights watchdog group both reported that loyalist forces, including Hezbollah elements, had advanced in the Qusayr area, strategically located along the Lebanese border.
Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said the army’s campaign was “fierce.”
An army officer told AFP the military seized control of Shumariyeh village near Qusayr “and troops are currently on their way to the village of Ghassaniyeh,” which has been under rebel control for more than a year.

Syrian regime welcome U.S.-Russian “rapprochement”

Meanwhile, Syria’s Foreign Ministry welcomed the U.S.-Russian “rapprochement,” under which the two countries will seek to convene an international conference to build on a six-point accord agreed in Geneva last year.
The Geneva agreement aimed at finding a path towards a transitional government but made no mention of Assad’s departure, which the opposition says is non-negotiable.
U.S. Secretary John Kerry said Assad would have to step down as part of the resolution to the conflict.
That was rejected by the Syrian Foreign Ministry, which stressed that the decision belongs “only” to the Syrian people.
And the ministry said it was “confident that the Russian position, which is based on the principles of the U.N. Charter and international law, will not change.”
Russia is a top ally of the regime in Damascus and has staunchly resisted any bid to oust Assad.

U.S. treads cautiously on Syria

The Obama administration is treading cautiously on Syria, and the reports of chemical weapons use, after what it sees as Washington’s past errors in the Iraq invasion and occupation, Vice President Joe Biden said.
Biden told Rolling Stone magazine that “we don’t want to blow it like the last administration did in Iraq, saying ‘weapons of mass destruction.’”
Iraq’s alleged weapons of mass destruction, cited by George W. Bush’s administration as the main motive to launch the U.S.-led invasion in 2003, never surfaced after the fall of Saddam Hussein’s regime.
Biden stressed that once the use of the chemical weapons has been verified, Obama would likely make a “proportional response in terms of meaningful action,” without providing further details.
Echoing the cautious tone, U.S. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the problems that plague the Middle East, including Syria’s civil war, require “political, not military” solutions.
The United Nations said its Syria envoy, Lakhdar Brahimi, has withdrawn a threat to quit and will stay the course in light of the U.S.-Russian agreement.
And The Wall Street Journal reported that Israel had informed Washington about the imminent sale to Syria of Russian S-300 missile batteries, advanced ground-to-air weapons that can take out aircraft or guided missiles.
Reacting to the report, Kerry warned in Rome that the sale would be “potentially destabilizing” for the region.
Moscow has continued to supply Damascus with weapons throughout the conflict, which has left more than 70,000 people dead since March 2011.
Under mounting international pressure over the possible use of chemical weapons, Syria said it was ready to receive a U.N. team to investigate the claims.
“We were ready and we are always ready, right now, to receive the delegation that was set up by Ban Ki-moon to investigate what happened in Khan al-Assal,” Muqdad said, referring to a village near Aleppo where authorities say rebels used chemical weapons, killing 30 people.
He added that the use of chemical weapons was a “red line for President Assad.”

  • I have had the funniest week of my life, hilarious, LMAO. This week I heard Israel "warning" the Syrian authorities not to use chemical weapons on its own people, despite the Nazi-like Israeli government using them on the Palestinians. This week I heard the Americans warning North Korea about secret torture camps, whilst having 100s of secret prisons dotted around the Middle East and still holding civilians in Guantanamo bay without trial or charge. This week I heard about a foiled joint terrorist plot by Iran and Al Qaeda in Canada despite them having never worked together before and fighting against one another next door in Syria. This week I heard how after 12 years, a piece of the jet from 9/11 was discovered at ground zero, right next to the disputed Manhattan mosque in the same couple of days the Boston bombings happened and anti muslim sentiment was rife. This week I heard the Saudi student the FBI pinned the marathon bombings on firstly has been deported, the missing Indian student they blamed it on secondly turned up dead and Tamerlans mother was suddenly on a CIA terror list along with her sons 2 years ago. I heard this week how a controversial piece of legislation called CISPA, which everyone protested against worldwide for three years was quietly passed, now allowing the government all area access to our computers, smartphones, Facebook, Twitter, Whatssapp and emails without a warrant, whilst again we were all of course occupied by Boston. I heard how the three men caught in the UK for attempting to commit a terrorist attack against British civilians were front page news in this particular week despite being caught months ago. All in the same week ladies and gentlemen that ended up with all of us hearing something we have chillingly heard too many times before. The call for war with another country! In one week they have mustered up the sympathy, support and motivation for attacking and invading another land once again. Just so you know it is a well known fact that Bashar al Assad has been using chemical weapons for over a year now. I witnessed this, with the injuries I saw and accounts I heard myself, when I was there. He did not start using them this week! The people of Syria will have two enemies to deal with now. Bashar Al Assad with his Russian and Iranian backers, and then the imperialist US, EU, UN, and Israelis who are funding death by arming groups of terrorists, now laying in wait to become worse puppet leaders and tyrant dictators then Bashar al Asad himself. We were lied to about Iraq, Afganistan, Palestine, Algeria, Nigeria, Libya, and Somalia. Remember this however, Syria is not an Arab uprising, It is not a revolution! Syria may be an engineered war, but it will result in the revival of all revivals! Wake up!

Guess who started the trouble with Ali RA?
Guess who betray Imam Husain RA in Kufa in Iraq after their fake calls of allegiance?
During the Crusades, Saladin embarked on a mission to kick out the crusaders back to Europe; he succeeded, but guess who helped the crusaders the entire time?
When the Mongols invaded the Islamic world, bloodshed hit the world like never before, the Mongols defeated everybody they came up against, and it was not until Saif ad-Din Qutuz led an army of Muslim’s in the Battle of Ain Jalut which finally broke the back of these pagans. Again, guess who helped the Mongols against the Muslims?
In the invasion of Lebanon in 82, guess which group helped Israel into Lebanon in the FIRST PLACE?
In the invasion of Afghanistan, guess which group helped the Russians?
In the invasion of Afghanistan No 2, guess which group helped the US?
In the Invasion of Iraq, guess which group helped the US?

It is them same treacherous people who are slaughtering the Muslims now of Syria.

It is their IMAMS not there political leaders who ordered this, so they cannot blame politics or corrupt leaders, wallahi they are a wicked, twisted, treacherous people who we should NEVER trust or associate with. They are historical traitors , when ever they have been given the chance to kill Muslims, they have taken the chance, there is only ONE place for the shia & that place is with our foot on their necks.

CHATTING ABOUT 'GAME OF THRONES' WITH SYRIA'S MOST FEARED ISLAMIC MILITANTS

Members of Jabhat al-Nusra, the most feared jihadist group currently operating in Syria.
“Ameriki?” the jihadi asked, pointing at me with a bemused look on his face. I'd just approached him at a house that serves as the local base for Jabhat al-Nusra (JAN), the most feared Islamic militant group operating in Syria. A month ago, his colleagues took over a street right next to my fixer's house, blocking it off and hoisting up the black flag that serves as their symbol. They spend their time milling about outside, sometimes riding off in pickup trucks, the beds overflowing with black-clad young men holding RPGs and AK-47s.
Accompanied by a few Free Syrian Army rebels, I was still quite apprehensive about approaching al-Nusra. More experienced journalists had warned me to be wary of them and the Obama administration had recently designated them as a terrorist group. While the al-Qaeda link hadn't yet been made official, it was confirmed a couple of days later. Additionally, I had awoken that morning to the news that the FBI had just arrested Eric Harroun, an American who allegedly fought with al-Nusra in Syria.
Al-Nusra and other Islamic groups showed up in the Syrian border town of Ras Al Ayn in November, and – along with the Free Syrian Army – forced out the remnants of the Assad regime in fierce, block-to-block fighting. Afterwards, this coalition fought against Syria's most powerful Kurdish militia, the Popular Protection Units (YPG). The fighting lasted months before a ceasefire was arranged, and the city was essentially divided in two, with the YPG operating on one side and the FSA and al-Nusra on the other. More recently, al-Nusra had even clashed with an FSA brigade in the nearby town of Tal Abyad, but peace was restored shortly after.
At the al-Nusra base in Ras Al Ayn, the jihadi who had asked me if I was American pulled back his fist in an exaggerated motion, then play-acted punching me when I confirmed my citizenship. The man – a cross-eyed Egyptian who I would later learn served as the group's public relations officer and preacher, of sorts – laughed heartily.
“Watch out, we’re terrorists!” his colleague, a lanky Emirati with facial hair reminiscent of Orlando Bloom chimed in, before he started laughing too. The Emirati then excitedly asked me what part of New York City I was from. “Oh, Brooklyn? Yeah, I know it. I went to school in Seattle for a year,” he said.
We then talked about his visits to Detroit, Chicago and Disneyland, as well as the weather, coffee and sports teams in Seattle. “Go Huskies!”
Eventually, the other members of the group came outside, including “the big boss man”. Things took a more serious tone. Our request for an interview was denied. The man then warned me about walking around the area, saying it could be dangerous, though he blamed the danger on the potential of a YPG attack or an airplane raid. Yilmaz, my fixer, had told me that when al-Nusra first moved a block away from him, he worried about their base being blown up since he knew it was filled with explosives and ammunition.
Two men walk through the site of a regime air strike on the outskirts of Ras Al Ayn.
Al-Nusra's presence in Syria is a matter of some controversy to locals. Fayez Durbas wasn’t a religious man before the war here started. Clad in a short-sleeve Adidas shirt, sweats and sporting a closely cropped beard, Fayez told me he's a member of the Fatah brigade in the Free Syrian Army, but thought that he'd soon join Jabhat al-Nusra. “They are working for God, not for money,” he said. “They give food to the people.”
Durbas is originally from the countryside of Aleppo, but now works a border checkpoint in Ras Al Ayn. He credited al-Nusra with the truce in the city and said that he’s very happy with the way they’ve stepped in – a happiness shared by many of his friends, who weren't religious previously either, but are now also turning to al-Nusra. “When they see the West and all the world not giving help, they go to Jabhat,” Durbas told me.
Durbas’ feelings were echoed by a number of others in the city. Al-Nusra has gone the route of many savvy resistance groups, providing goods and services in the cities they occupy to citizens hungry for both. They settle disputes and try to provide justice at a time where the vacuum of power presents an opening for chaos and criminality. A Christian man was even said to have contacted JAN when his son was kidnapped, though other Christians I met in the city were hesitant – fearful, even – to speak about them.
In the mostly Kurdish areas of town that are controlled by the YPG, it's a lot easier to gauge the feeling towards al-Nusra. In these places, any encroachment by Islamists into Kurdish territory will be met with fierce resistance. The mostly secular and progressive Kurdish population sees al-Nusra and the other jihadi groups as just as much of a threat as the regime.
Al-Nusra has also tried to establish control over crucial goods, like oil and grain. Montaser Al Khaled – a defected captain of the regime army who's now said to be one of the highest-ranking FSA soldiers in the Al-Hasakah province – has a decidedly negative view of them. “People here refuse them, they don’t like their behaviour. They try to control the resources, they try to sell the crops and the petrol,“ he said. “Their objective is to dictate the future of the people, not fight Assad."
Four members of an FSA brigade stationed outside the city.
However, unlike Al Khaled, many FSA soldiers seemed conflicted on how they view JAN, even though they fight alongside them at times. A lot of the younger soldiers admired them for their fighting ability, as they are said to be fearless in battle. They admired the al-Nusra members' courage and dedication to Islam, even though the FSA soldiers themselves are quite moderate. Sometimes they cracked jokes about them. Whenever whiskey or women were discussed, they'd point at one of their friends and shout, “Be careful, he’s Jabhat!” A few times, they joked about taking me to al-Nusra when I joined in on the conversations.
Marwan, a Kurdish fighter in the FSA who has fought all over Syria, countered Al Khaled's claim, saying that al-Nusra does have a significant amount of support in Syria. “Not all people do [support JAN] – our area here is not for Islamic people – but Jabhat services the people. In Idlib, Aleppo, Homs, they all love al-Nusra because they give them food, water and help,” he said.
Marwan said that the FSA cannot do anything without the West’s help, but that al-Nusra didn't need it. Still, he admitted that when the regime falls, the FSA may have to fight al-Nusra, and noted that the Americans may finally give the FSA weapons to do so. For now, though, he said, “In my mind, I’m with them, even though I’m FSA.”
Though they had different views on the popularity of al-Nusra, both Marwan and Al Khaled agreed on how they were able to gain support. “Because no one in the world gave any weapons to the FSA, the FSA and Jabhat fight together,” Marwan told me.
Al Khaled took a more direct approach. “The reason Jabhat al-Nusra is so strong is because of you,” he said to me – with “you” meaning "America". Lack of resources among the FSA has led people to embrace those with money, weapons and food: al-Nusra.
The YPG have a large number of women in their ranks.
Five days after initially approaching the al-Nusra base, I got a call from the Emirati I'd spoken to about Disneyland. Despite not receiving permission from their superiors for a formal interview, both he and the Egyptian wanted to meet with me informally to clear up any misconceptions I might have had regarding their beliefs and intentions. I met them at a local man’s house, along with two FSA soldiers and my fixer, Yilmaz.
The Emirati had decided that jihad was his path at 22. Though he studied in both the United States and Australia, he grew enamoured with the jihadi videos he was watching on the internet and eventually decided that the jihad life was the life for him. His parents think that he's living in Turkey holding down a job in business, and his favourite things to watch before joining al-Nusra were Game of Thrones and the movie Troy.
The dialogue began with the two men educating me about the history of Islam. Then we got into a discussion of what al-Nusra was about. They said Islam was a religion of peace, that they were fighting a defensive war. I asked them about a recent decapitation video I'd seen and they said that this is what happens in war. They talked about Iran being the enemy and Shiites not being true followers of Islam, but then added that they would not force their ideas on anyone. They blamed the Shiite leaders, not all Shiites, for blinding the people.
They had a brilliant rationalisation for every point of criticism I could level at them. When I questioned them on women’s rights, they said that it's alright for a woman to walk around in a miniskirt in the US but not in the nude, and that things are all relative. They pointed out that the West had similar rules hundreds of years ago to the rules al-Nusra have now, but who's to say the West won't change their minds in 50 years and revert back? During the Dark Ages in the West, there was incest and women couldn't inherit money, but this was never the case in Islamic areas, so why should they trust Western standards?
An al-Nusra gunman.
When I asked them about how they'd come into Syria and started telling Syrians what to do, they pointed out that we were smoking cigarettes and it was OK with them. They said that if a man wants to commit a religious sin, he should do it out of sight, secretly in his home… but that they also didn't approve of anyone committing religious sins in secret. They have strict laws that have been handed down for 1,000 years and are still strict with the basics of those laws, but find room to adapt and modernise where needed.
They don’t hate Americans purely because they're American, they hate only those who want to fight them. They said they don’t appreciate the West trying to push moderate Islam on the people, that the people want Sharia and that the only people in Syria who fear al-Nusra are ignorant about Islam. They said separation of religion and politics is a Western idea. They said that the Western media reports that al-Nusra is full of uneducated, poor, backwards people, but claimed that this isn’t true and that they have many Westerners and educated men fighting among their ranks.
Lastly, they wondered why the Western media tried to misrepresent Islam. They told me to read the Qur'an and to check Aaron Zelin’s website, Jihadology, for the truth on their beliefs.
After I'd finished talking to the al-Nusra soldiers, we walked away, Yilmaz shaking his head and muttering, “The young guys, they're OK. But the brains, they're bad guys, man. They are not good for Syria.”
Jabhat Al Nusra has emerged as arguably the most formidable rebel fighting force in Syria. The fighters, estimated to number around 5,000, are battle hardened, fearless and disciplined. They've already struck significant blows against the regime in battle and continue to work hard to win the hearts and minds of civilians and rebel fighters. They've pledged to take the fight to Hezbollah and it seems likely they'll eventually clash with the YPG again.
Some, like Marwan, believe that eventually the more secular elements of the FSA will turn against Jabhat, or vice versa, once their common foe falls and no longer unites them in cause. For now, the only thing certain is that they'll continue to prove pretty effective in battling the Assad regime and pretty troublesome for Western and Arab nations looking for methods to support the rebels.

Muslim Brotherhood opens direct link to rebels in Damascus

May 6, 2013

GAZIANTEP, Turkey // The Muslim Brotherhood recently opened direct contacts with opposition groups in Damascus, providing them with cash for the first time and promising political influence in an effort to gain their support, according to Syrians organising clandestine relief efforts in rebel-held areas of the capital.

The infusion of cash and offer of political collaboration last week came just days after the Muslim Brotherhood's secretary general, Raid Al Shaqfa, announced the organisation would reopen offices inside Syria, after years of exile.
The Brotherhood's largesse followed a cutback of relief assistance to some groups in the capital by the Syrian National Coalition (SNC), the officially recognised opposition alliance.
Although a member of the SNC, the Muslim Brotherhood is not solely channelling its aid through the formal opposition framework. Instead, it is independently dispensing cash and supplies in it own name, the Syrian aid organisers in Damascus said.
The move by the Brotherhood into Damascus is likely to become yet another bone of contention between groups attempting to overthrow the regime of Syrian presidentBashar Al Assad. Deep mistrust, infighting that includes violent clashes between armed rebel groups and a failure to properly coordinate aid and military efforts have severely hamstrung Syria's opposition.
The SNC has struggled to gain credibility and influence on the ground, a problem it is trying to address by appointing an interim government and providing it with resources to undertake relief efforts to needy civilians and induce rebel military factions to unite under the same leadership.
Critics of the Muslim Brotherhood, including the Free Syrian Army's ruling joint command, have charged that it is trying to dominate the opposition and impose an Islamist agenda at the expense of efforts to oust the Assad regime.
Another key complaint is that it operates its own militia groups and distributes resources only to factions promising loyalty. The Brotherhood vociferously denies all these charges.
There appears to have been little progress in addressing the fissures in the opposition, with different groups still jockeying for position rather than uniting and coordinating their anti-Assad activities.
One major opposition network in Damascus had all but run out of cash this month after its regular funding, sent from Saudi Arabia, was cut off, members of the network said.
The SNC also failed to deliver promised levels of financing and relief supplies, leaving a significant shortfall in humanitarian aid for hard-hit areas of the capital.
The Muslim Brotherhood stepped in, however, directly establishing contacts with the network and offering to fill the funding gap.
"The Muslim Brotherhood just asked us how much we needed, we told them, and they immediately send that amount," said a senior activist based in Damascus involved in the aid efforts.
He is not aligned with any political faction but sits on an influential committee distributing aid in the capital and surrounding suburbs.
Organisational security precautions among activists on the Damascus committee - including a strict compartmentalisation of information to guard against captured members giving up the names of their colleagues under interrogation - mean no one has knowledge of all the committee's workings .
But the committee member said the monthly funding needed for just one neighbourhood of the capital was almost US$140,000. Most of that money is given out in small stipends to poor families who have lost sons or fathers in the conflict and have no other source of income on which to survive.
The Muslim Brotherhood not only paid that amount, he said, it also told activists they should take one per cent of the funding for their personal salaries, something none had done before.
"We all work as volunteers, for free, and most of us refused to take any money. We don't want to be paid when every dollar should be used for humanitarian needs, which increase on an hourly basis," he said.
In addition, the Muslim Brotherhood offered relief supplies but on condition that when they were distributed it is made clear they are from the Muslim Brotherhood, not the Syrian National Coalition or any other opposition faction, the activist said.
"The assistance was offered to us for free, its supplies of rice, sugar, food, that kind of thing. But the boxes have 'Muslim Brotherhood' written on them and we have to clarify to the recipients that the assistance is from the Muslim Brotherhood," he said.
Non-political non-governmental organisations, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross, Red Crescent Societies and UN agencies, routinely mark put their organisation's stamp on aid.
Activists within the committee, predominately Sunni Muslims, were grateful for the support.
"The timing was good, we need any kind of assistance, we are short of everything, even more so than before," a committee member said. "We are accepting help from anyone, even if it comes from the devil."
After announcing it is reopening offices inside Syria, the Muslim Brotherhood has also been making private contacts with opposition activists in Damascus.
"They have been getting in touch with activists and making them good offers, I'm not sure if they're offering money but they are certainly promising people high level positions in the movement if they agree to be a part of it," said a dissident in the Syrian capital with extensive family connections to the Muslim Brotherhood.
He said the Muslim Brotherhood was "working hard" to build its strength in Damascus.
"Their timing is good, they have come at a time when other groups are failing to deliver, they have supporters everywhere," he said.
Speaking with the newspaper Asharq Al Awsat last month, Zuhayn Salim, a spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood said the organisation would seek to boost aid efforts for civilians.
"The decision to open Brotherhood offices in Syria was taken by the group's leadership a few months ago. Now, the decision will be carried out," he said. "These offices will work to achieve coordination between the Brotherhood's supporters, reorganise the group's affairs and provide relief aid for the Syrian people, who are suffering at both the humanitarian and economic levels."
Opponents of the Muslim Brotherhood worry about its rising influence, their fears stoked by what they view as the authoritarian tendencies it has shown after rising to power in post-Mubarak Egypt.
In April, the Syrian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood made a public defence of its record and motivations, saying it was committed to building a "modern, civil state where citizens are equal regardless of difference in their sectarian, religious and political affiliations."
Its supporters say it offers an antidote to rising Islamic extremism in Syria by providing a moderate alternative likely to appeal to the country's Sunni Muslim majority.
The Muslim Brotherhood led a militant insurrection against former president Hafez Al Assad in the 1980s, which was violently put-down. The organisation was subsequently forced underground and into exile. It remains unclear how much popular support it has inside Syria.

The move by the Brotherhood into Damascus is likely to become yet another bone of contention between groups attempting to overthrow the regime of Syrian president Bashar Al Assad.

Egyptian newspaper claims "Jews drink Egyptian blood"

An Egyptian newspaper has published multiple articles promoting the old anti-Semitic blood libel, claiming Jews drink gentile blood

by The Commentator on 2 May 2013 12:25
Then Egyptian newspaper "Misrelgdida" has recently published multiple features promoting the Jewish "blood libel" - an old anti-Semitic trope that claims Jews drink Christian and Muslim blood.
The first article, published late last month, is written by a Palestinian Arab, Mennat al-Sayed. The article gives a "history" of Passover blood rituals that, he claims continues to this day against Arabs.
Al-Sayed says that Christian neighbors of Jews were scared of the holiday because they were worried about abduction and ritual slaughtering for their blood. He claims that Jews would hunt for Christian babies who never tasted wine and stab them to death in a ceremony in the synagogue, after which they would distribute the blood to drink four cups of "wine" during the Passover seder, while singing and dancing with their families.
The articles, spotted by the Elder of Ziyon blog, are published in the Arabic-language paper that claims it believes, "in credibility and transparency and strive[s] to symbolize the new Egypt. The truth is the basis of our profession, and we believe in humanity and compassion, and that justice is the basis of our humanity, and believe in the future as long as we are alive."
The second article, written by Amr Abdel Rahman, the managing editor of the paper, is entitled, "When the Jews drank the blood of Egyptians on Passover." It states:
"Recently Jews celebrated their important Passover holiday, and this feast - for those who do not know - includes bloody and exciting rituals, and the most exciting of these rituals were probably still practiced secretly in Egypt by some members of the Jewish community.
[...]
The victim must be a non-Jewish young adult, of course, either Christian or Muslim. His blood is taken and dried to a powder so they may save the remainder for the next holiday .. The blood must be used where the Christians or Muslim victims are under ten years old.
They extract the blood with extremely sharp needles and put it in the barrel. These needles ensure that the blood exits the victim very slowly, and thus ensures the painful agony of the victim, his torment is pleasure for the vampire Jews who are keen to pursue this ritual in all its details, they love and enjoy it though it is difficult to understand!"
The articles come shortly after The Sunday Times of London published what campaigners called a "modern blood libel" cartoon, depicting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a big-nosed builder, constructing a wall out of the blood of Palestinians, or Muslim blood and bodies.
