NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF MITT ROMNEY TO TURN A NEGATIVE INTO A POSITIVE:
Huge turnout at Romney-Ryan rally in Wisconsin ‘disturbs’ Democratic Party
306

In less than 72 hours the Democratic Party has gone from ‘thrilled’ about Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wisc.) entry into the 2012 presidential race as Mitt Romney’s running mate to ‘disturbed.’
A “disturbing report” sent out by the Democratic Congressional Committee (DCCC) acknowledges that House Budget Committee Chairman has excited conservatives, with 15,000 people attending the Romney-Ryan 2012 rally last night in Ryan’s home state of Wisconsin.
“There’s no spinning that number. It’s a LOT of people, and the Republican base in energized,” the email reads. “Listen to what one Republican supporter said about Paul Ryan: ‘I love him…He’s going to excite the Tea Party and get them on board…’ ”
The Democratic Party has clearly moved on from ‘denial’ to ‘pain’ in the seven stages of Paul Ryan grief.
While the whole fundraising email is nearly too good to be true, here is my favorite line:
“And that’s not all. Since the VP announcement, Romney’s campaign has brought in over 70,000 donations from his Tea Party base.”
The party that has repeatedly accused Mitt Romney of besting them in fundraising because of his ‘big money donors’ openly acknowledges that Romney collected the bulk of his donations last weekend from average Americans, not conservative billionaires like the oft attacked Koch brothers.
Remember this email when the Democrats start boo-hooing at the end of the month about how they’re going to get outspent this election because of the corporate and Koch money that’s supposedly being funneled to Romney.

Denver Post Shortchanges Romney Rally Attendance

September 25, 2012 | Filed under: All Letters,Colorado,Election | Posted by: admin
Letter to the Editor:
I was at the Romney Rally in Denver. It was enormous and fever pitched. I was one of the first to enter, and for 3 hours, 45 minutes, I sat beside the entry walkway, watching the steady stream of supporters coming into the huge area.
It never slowed and the line never shortened until 45 minutes after the event was schedule to start. When the field was filled, several of us who were overlooking the area were trying to estimate the size of the crowd.
We finally decided a conservative estimate was 25,000 plus. One of those people predicted, “Tomorrow’s Denver Post will report Romney Turnout Low!”
Sure enough, the Denver Post reported “estimated attendance of 7,000.” Just how ignorant do these writers at the Denver Post think we are? That is false journalism of the worst sort. By the same token, they are upping the numbers of the Obama Biden event attendances in an effort to create enthusiasm “where it ain’t.”
Come’on, Denver Post. Make your daily rag at least look reasonably intelligent. We know you are liberal, but you don’t need to go to such extremes in your lies.
Sincerely,
Curt Dale, PhD, USAF (Ret)

Mitt Romney  took in $6 million Saturday night at a Beverly Hills fundraiser, he said, as his backers tried to quell concern about the rocky road the Republican nominee has faced in his presidential bid in recent days.
Tom Tellefsen, a major bundler and chairman of the candidate’s California Finance Committee, tried to reassure donors as he introduced Romney to about 1,500 people who paid up to $50,000 to see the candidate speak at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
"At this moment I know you are probably feeling a bit worried, frustrated, even angry as you watch President Obama, the mainstream media and the pundits attack Mitt with distortions and inaccuracies," Tellefsen said. "So I wanted to share some thoughts with you tonight. They can provide you some comfort. Polls are not elections. The voters have not yet spoken."

Tellefsen was referring to the travails Romney has faced in recent days, notably a secretly recorded video that shows him making controversial remarks about nearly half the nation’s population, and polls that show him losing ground in  battleground states.
But financially, Romney has been doing well, as national finance chairman Spencer Zwick noted. The campaign has raised more than $500 million, he said, including nearly $25 million from the Los Angeles area. Romney also had big-dollar events in Del Mar and Hillsborough on this California fundraising swing.
Romney’s wife, Ann, was in attendance, and the candidate spoke of the concern he had for her when her plane had to make an emergency landing Friday en route to Santa Monica because of an electrical  malfunction.
“I appreciate the fact that she is on the ground, safe and sound. And I don’t think she knows just how worried some of us were,” Romney said. “When you have a fire in an aircraft, there’s no place to go, exactly, there’s no — and you can’t find any oxygen from outside the aircraft to get in the aircraft, because the windows don’t open. I don’t know why they don’t do that. It’s a real problem. So it’s very dangerous. And she was choking and rubbing her eyes. Fortunately, there was enough oxygen for the pilot and copilot to make a safe landing in Denver. But she’s safe and sound.”
The crowd also heard from comedian Dennis Miller and musician and record producer David Foster, portions of the evening that were closed to reporters but acknowledged by the Romneys.

“I want to thank Dennis Miller for not just the humor, but the truth in the humor,” Romney said. “Much of what he said tonight, much of what he said was very encouraging and uplifting.”
No visit to California by a Republican candidate could be complete without a nod to the state’s liberal bent.
“I know in some of the communities around this particular hotel it’s hard to let people know you’re conservative without them looking at you funny," Romney said, before noting that he had lunch with “a very famous actor — very famous.  Very liberal.  I won’t tell you his name or he’d shoot me… He pulled me aside, he said, ‘In this town, you really can’t get work unless you’re known as a liberal,’ and he said, ‘But no one knows how I really vote.’  And there are a lot of people that feel that way.”

Cutting off foreign aid and doing this budget, then that means we're paying $50 billion annually on the deficit:

DOING TAX REFORM http://lnk.ms/d1tHx 2013 BUDGEThttp://lnk.ms/cj8nx

Foreign aid should not be an annual appropriation, and
every country should pay it back. We have tried to offset this through trade, but it is not working:

$250 billion + $500 billion (for 10yrs. paid back of foreign aid and 10yrs. not appropriating foreign aid) saves $750 billion nearly $1 trillion in 10yrs. ---

Obama has lost about $250 billion dollars for 4yrs. in office, that is just if the 30 million who lost their jobs paid in $2,000 in income taxes.
Meaning, Obama has lost 10yrs. worth of foreign aid in only 4yrs. time. If those jobs are recovered, which they have not been, $250 billion for 10yrs. is only $2.5 trillion paid on the deficit to reverse Obamacare and Dodd-Frank.
We are only thereby reducing the deficit about $3 trillion in ten years, unless we change the tax code, reform programs, create more jobs than 30 million and cut foreign aid off.

Aja Brooks of course, if we don't look to the government to fund education, that is $400 billion and if Congress takes a salary cut to $500 billion annually, that means we're paying $1 trillion on the deficit, and we'll be out of this hole in 10yrs., even if no jobs are created

Aja Brooks that gives us $100 billion emergency fund/deficit reduction and puts us back to 2006 levels before Democrats agreed to raise the debt ceiling that time.

Aja Brooks Congress simply can not justify having no budget, giving away the Bush Tax Cuts for votes, or why they need $200 billion more than OUR ENTIRE MILITARY to operate, PLUS DONATIONS !!!

Aja Brooks Then to borrow to pay them this salary, which is what hits us with $700 billion interest -- that's the problem --- their salary and borrowing to pay it created this deficit and they need to own it OR GET THE HELL OUT.

Homeland Security Chairman Calls on Ambassador to UN to Resign

House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King tonight called on U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice to resign from her post because of comments she made about the attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.

House Homeland Security Chairman Peter King (R-N.Y.) tonight called on U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice to resign from her post in light of comments she made regarding the nature of the attack earlier this month on a U.S. consulate in Libya.
Rice, whose name has been floated as a potential replacement for Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told NBC and ABC on Sept. 16 that evidence at the time suggested the attacks that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans were "spontaneous." Since then, President Barack Obama has indicated the attacks were, in fact, planned and are being considered "a terrorist attack."
"I believe this was such a failure of foreign policy message and leadership, such a misstatement of facts as were known at the time, and for her to go on all of those shows and to in effect be our spokesman to the world and to be misinforming the American people and our allies in countries around the world, to me, somebody has to pay the price for this," King told CNN. "I think we have to send a clear message and on such a vital as this, where an American ambassador is killed, whereby all the accumulation of evidence at the time, the presumption had to be it was terrorism. ... To rule out terrorism, to say it was not terrorism at the time, to me, was a terrible mistake to make, whether it was it was done intentionally or unintentionally, to show the significance of that, I believe [Rice] should resign."
The administration has been criticized by Republicans for its handling of the fatal events in Benghazi, Libya, and earlier today, all 19 members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee sent a bipartisan letter to Deputy Secretary of State Thomas Nides asking for more information about the "accounting" of the recent attacks on embassies in Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Tunisia and Pakistan, according to a letter published by Foreign Policy magazine.

"McMahon’s types of jobs include men bulked up on steroids and women prancing around the ring in bikinis, spiked hair, carrying whips and chains.” The problem is wrestling is a professional sport and not the S&M show he claims here, when WWE supports soldiers! This guy is a total douche, we don’t need someone like him in the Senate who will try to control everything rather than do what is best, we don’t need a militarized micro-manager. It is military guys like him who run around bullying people in Facebook groups online, and while we’re grateful for his military service, we can do without the superiority complex and trashing the life work of others.

Among the Senate seats up for election in 2012, there are 21 Democrats, 10 Republicans and 2 Independents. The Independents include Joe Lieberman, who ran and won as an independent in 2006 after losing the Connecticut Democratic primary. Lieberman and Independent Bernie Sanders of Vermont both caucus with the Democratic Party.
If Senators in other classes die or resign between 2011 and 2012, there may be additional special elections between the beginning of the 112th Congress (on January 3, 2011), and the 2012 election. The dates between which the death or resignation of a Senator would lead to a special election during this time period vary from state to state.

UPDATED: Big crowds point to a Romney-Ryan edge?

Crowds line up for a Romney-Ryan rally in High Point, NC (Photo courtesy of Legal Insurrection reader "Tim")
Cornell Law Professor William A. Jacobson has a reader, Tim, of his Legal Insurrection blog who attended the Romney-Ryan rally earlier today in High Point, NC and provided the photo above of the line of attendees trying to get into the event.
"I have never been to a rally, but the picture in my head did not include a line to get off the exit, a half mile walk to the line and then a multiple block line. Consider me heartened," Tim told Jacobson. Note that Tim was attending his first-ever political rally.
As with the unexpectedly large crowds lining the streets yesterday ofdowntown Manassas, Virginia, the throngs who turned out in the Tarheel State for Romney-Ryan and big, noisy crowds elsewhere as the duo have made their rounds since the runningmate announcement early Saturday, may be an indicator of a significant enthusiasm edge for the Republican presidential ticket.
If that is the case - and the evidence (outside of a few polls measuring "intensity") thus far is mostly anecdotal - it could be a sign that the 2012 electorate echoes that of 2010, which produced the biggest GOP congressional victory since Grover Cleveland was in the White House. That could also be the biggest obstacle facing President Obama as he seeks a second term.
Go here for more from Jacobson.
    NYT cites 'half-full' Obama fund-raiser
Romney-Ryan officials are also pointing to the contrast in fund-raising numbers over the weekend. Late Sunday, they circulated a statement claiming to have raised $4.7 million since the Ryan announcement was made Saturday.
And they point to a New York Times reporter's tweet that described a $51-admission fundraiser in Chicago for Obama being "half-full."

    INDEPENDENT VOTE LEANING ROMNEY:

Obama Is the True George W. Bush Clone on Failed Economic Policy

by Michael Medved Sep 30, 2012 4:45 AM EDT

The president is fond of telling voters that Mitt Romney’s economic plans would take us back to the ‘same failed policies’ of George W. Bush, but it’s Obama who has stuck to the Bush playbook, with disastrous results, writes Michael Medved.

If voters want to avoid a painful replay of the fiscal failures of the much-derided Bush administration, their only choice in 2012 demands voting out Barack Obama and giving Mitt Romney a clean shot at real change. Contrary to Democratic propaganda (and conventional wisdom), it’s the current incumbent much more than his Republican challenger who has remixed the toxic Bush cocktail of increased spending and declining revenue, promising a punishing hangover of looming national bankruptcy.
George W. Bush and Barack Obama arrive in the East Room of The White House for the unveiling of Bush's official portrait. (Chip Somodevilla / Getty Images)
In nearly all of his public appearances, President Obama asks a plaintive rhetorical question: “Why would we want to go back to the same failed policies that got us into this mess in the first place?” Informed citizens ought to answer back: “We don’t want to go back—and that’s why you, sir, should become a one-term proposition!”
The common indictment of the Bush administration isn’t complicated: the 43rd president inherited a substantial surplus from Bill Clinton and turned it into a big deficit by raising spending and cutting revenue.
But if this approach led ultimately to the economic disasters of 2008, then why should anyone have expected a better outcome from the basic contours of Obamanomics, which hiked spending even more than Bush and collected even less tax money to pay the bills? The result—four consecutive years of trillion-dollar budget deficits—represents an unprecedented but utterly predictable catastrophe for the nation’s economic health.
First, a few basic numbers culled from the government’s own data on tax and revenue. In 2000, the last full year of the Clinton presidency, the feds spent 18 percent of the GDP; after eight years of Bush-Cheney leadership, that figure stood at 20.8 percent—a troubling increase of nearly 3 percent over eight years.
By comparison, spending in the four years of Barack Obama’s presidency has already soared to 24.3 percent—a disastrous rise of 3.5 percent—indicating that spending as a portion of the overall economy went up more than twice as fast to fund the grand schemes of Hope and Change than it did to finance the expensive domestic and foreign projects of the Bush regime.
Meanwhile, the flow of government revenues displayed a similarly calamitous pattern for both of our most recent presidents. In 2000, the last year of Clinton and the year before the enactment of the first controversial Bush tax cuts, Washington collected 20.4 percent of the gross domestic product in total direct revenue. After eight years, two major rounds of tax cuts, and the withering impact of the Great Recession, the feds still got 17.6 percent of the GDP.
Under Obama, revenue continued to decline—reaching an all-time postwar low of 14.9 percent in 2010, before rising slightly to a still anemic 15.8 percent this year. That means that revenue under Obama—who, like Bush, lowered taxes for nearly everyone and raised them for almost no one—went down at a faster annualized rate than it did for his predecessor.
With these figures in mind, it’s easy to understand why the gross public debt has gone up far more quickly (and menacingly) under Obama than under Bush—rising by more than $6 trillion in four years for O, as opposed to an increase of less than $4 trillion in W’s two terms.
Both figures are appalling, but the point is that neither administration can claim to have reproduced the generally healthy numbers that prevailed in the years of the Clinton presidency—especially after the voters blessed Slick Willy with the wonderful gift of a reformist Republican Congress in 1994.
When it comes to spending and revenue, in fact, Obama led the nation even further away from Clintonism than did Bush. Another way of saying the same thing would be to note that the Bush fiscal balance sheet—in terms of spending, revenues, and deficits—bore a significantly closer resemblance to the fondly remembered Clinton record than did the first four years of Barack Obama, with their eruption of red ink, explosive spending growth, and plummeting tax intake.
If Obama honestly wants to see a dramatic change in the Bush era leadership, then he would have to implement a drastic change in his own policies, rather than promising more of the same for the second term he ardently desires.
For four long years, Obama has left the Bush tax rates utterly untouched—even for his first two years when he commanded Democratic super-majorities in both houses of Congress. Rather than keeping his campaign promise to raise taxes on the most productive taxpayers, he cut payroll taxes twice and significantly slashed federal revenues. Now, his push to return to Clinton-era rates for the top two tax brackets amounts to populist grandstanding rather than a significant suggestion for shrinking deficits: according to the administration’s own figures, even if he got all the tax hikes he currently seeks he’d add at best $80 billion a year to the federal treasury, providing a deficit reduction of less than 8 percent—and a reduction of nothing at all when coupled with Obama’s proposed spending “enhancements” for second-term priorities like high-speed rail, solar panels, and student loans.
When it comes to spending and revenue, in fact, Obama led the nation even further away from Clintonism than did Bush.
And what about the charge that Romney’s policies would provide even worse fiscal management with his across-the-board cuts in tax rates and sharply higher spending on national defense?
In fact, the candidate and his aides have become increasingly outspoken in promising that they will never allow their tax changes to bring about a reduction in revenues, while anticipating a sharp increase in the money flow to Washington once the economy resumes normal levels of growth. In Ohio on Sept. 26, Romney told a crowd not to expect any reduction in their overall tax burdens because his lower rates would be combined with sweeping tax simplification and the elimination of loopholes. Ronald Reagan succeeded with the same approach in 1986—dropping the top marginal rate all the way from 50 percent to 28 percent, while seeing revenues increase from 17.3 percent of GDP in ’86 to 18 percent in ’90, when the tax cuts had been fully implemented.
In terms of spending, Romney not only promises a legally mandated spending cap of 20 percent of GDP (which would require massive cuts in most federal programs) but also faces a radically different situation that would make it impossible for him to duplicate the spendthrift excesses of either Obama or Bush. When W. took the helm in 2001, he faced the delightful prospect of a substantial surplus and so pushed hard for increased spending on education and other priorities, even before the big added costs of Iraq, Afghanistan, and the War on Terror.
Even if a new Republican president became transfixed by some grand scheme like, say, a federally funded voyage to Mars, he couldn’t afford to indulge that passion in the next four years because of the budget crisis. Romney, therefore, talks about federal programs he means to cut or eliminate rather than promising costly new expansions of government.
Skeptics may insist that neither Romney’s potential cuts in spending nor Obama’s proposed new “investments” in infrastructure amounts to huge sums of money, but it’s fair to ask which emphasis shows a more clear-headed conception of our current fiscal dilemma. And it’s also fair to conclude that Obama sounds far more Bush-like in his blithe determination to avoid unpleasant budgetary realities than does Romney with his repeated promise to impose strict spending limits.
Neither candidate counts as an ideal leader to chart a new direction after the follies of the recent past, but it ought to be obvious that Romney offers a better chance to break the destructive cycle of the Bush-Obama years. Though he’s trying mightily to present himself as the un-Obama, it’s far tougher for the Republican candidate to present himself (appropriately and effectively) as the un-Bush without giving mortal offense to the many W. loyalists in the GOP.
But he should be able to offer a more forceful response to that tired challenge about “going back to the failed policies of George W. Bush.”
First of all, it’s Obama who’s replicated those dangerous patterns in his first four years by reducing revenue and increasing spending and debt. And second, by doubling and tripling down on the most irresponsible aspects of the Bush administration’s economic management, while proposing even more excesses for a second term, the president hasn’t healed the dysfunctional dynamic of our federal government but served to make it immeasurably worse.

Absolute Must See! Full 4.5 minutes length From Eric Dondero: What is it that the Ron Paulists and left-libertarians love to say? Nah, there’s no liberal media bias. That’s just conservatives being cranky. Campaign rally two days ago in Ohio. We won’t spoil it for you. Just please watch the entire 4 and a half minute video to get the full scope. It’s about the most devastating indictment of liberal media bias ever. (With the possible exception of the Dan Rather – Bush’s National Guard service fiasco in 2004). Of particular note for libertarians: At the tail end, you’ll catch Mitt Romney thanking libertarian Republican Senator Rand Paul for attending the event.

Libyan civilians turn in weapons …

    You read this
BENGHAZI, Libya (AP) — Hundreds of Libyans converged Saturday on a main square inBenghazi and another in Tripoli in response to a call from the military to hand over their weapons, some driving in with armored personnel carriers, tanks, vehicles with mounted anti-aircraft guns and hundreds of rocket launchers.
The call by the Libyan chiefs of staff was promoted on a private TV station in August. But it may have gained traction in the wake of the attack against the U.S. consulate in Benghazi in which the American ambassador and three staffers were killed. The incident was followed by a popular uproar against armed militias which have increasingly challenged government authorities.
In response, the government has called on all militias to disband or join a command center coordinating between the army and the militias. The government had relied on many militias for security during the turmoil following last year's ouster and killing of longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi.
Army Col. Omran al-Warfali said the turnout has been impressive.
"Hundreds of citizens came since the early hours of this morning to handover their weapons from all segments of society, men and youth, women, and even children came to hand over bullets they found it in the streets," he said.
Previously, the government had estimated that over 200,000 people in Libya are armed. It has attempted a number of disarmament schemes, including offering people jobs in exchange for handing over their weapons, or offering to buy guns. Those offers have shown few results.
A military official has been urging citizens in ads on a popular TV station to hand in their weapons. The station, Libya alHurra or Free Libya, showed live footage of Saturday's collection and transfer of weapons to military barracks.
Ahmed Salem, an organizer of the efforts in Benghazi, said over 800 citizens handed in weapons at the main collection point. Over 600 different types of arms were collected, including anti-aircraft guns, land mines, rocket launchers and artillery rockets.
Moussa Omr, a former fighter who lives on the outskirts of Benghazi and who fought against Gadhafi, said it was time to turn over his weapon to the state.
"When I saw the announcement on television I came to Benghazi with my wife and son to hand over my weapon to the national army because I want to move from the stage of the revolution to state building," he said. "I trust the national army. They have been with us on the frontline and I know them one by one. I don't need this weapon after today, the militias have been expelled from Benghazi and the national army will protect us."
Anger at the militias boiled over after the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate.
Most of Libya's militias emerged during the eight-month war against Gadhafi, but others sprang up after the end of fighting last October. With the country trying to rebuild after the 42-year dictatorship, the groups paid little attention to successive interim leaders. They were accused of bullying citizens, operating independent prisons and holding summary trials for Gadhafi loyalists. Recently, Islamist-led militias have also attacked shrines, such as tombs associated with religious figures they consider counter to their strict interpretation of Islam.
Last weekend, thousands of protesters marched against the militias in Benghazi, the cradle of the uprising against Gadhafi, and stormed two of their compounds.
In Tripoli, at least 200 former fighters handed over their weapons, including two tanks, at the Martyrs' square in the city center. A cleric urged young fighters to give up their weapons. "The nation is built with knowledge not guns," he said standing in the square.

    Inside Syria
Is it time for Arab intervention in Syria?

Qatar's ruler says the UN's failure to bring peace to Syria forced the Arab world to play a role in ending the conflict.

The Emir of Qatar has called on Arab militaries to help stop the bloodshed in Syria in a move that is widely seen as challenging UN efforts at resolving the 18-month conflict through negotiation.
"The times have changed , the Arab world is no more the same, the environment, the world order is different. I think there [will be] a lot of problems in [sending] Arab forces to stabilise Syria."
    - Elias Hanna, a military analyst

But, addressing the UN General Assembly, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's message was clear - the UN has failed in its mission; it is now time for Arab intervention.
"We have used all available means to get Syria out of the cycle of killing, but that was in vain," the emir said in an address in New York.
"In view of this, I think it is better for the Arab countries themselves to interfere out of their national, humanitarian, political and military duties and do what is necessary to stop the bloodshed in Syria."
In a news conference on the sidelines of the assembly on Tuesday, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran's president, was highly critical of any foreign intervention in Syria. Ahmadinejad accused "outside forces" of meddling in the country - though he did not directly name any countries.
He warned that outside interference might throw the region into a new war, bringing, "short-term results", but which he said would keep Syria in chaos and instability for decades to come.
    *

Meanwhile Hamad bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar's prime minister, has told Al Jazeera that Ahmadinejad is wrong to suggest that Arab forces in Syria would inflame the crisis.
He said: "The forces will not be going to Syria to fight. Their goal will be to stop what is going on in Syria. As you know, there were originally Arab forces which went there to observe the ceasefire in the past ... and these forces, because they were few and not well equipped, could not stop the bloodbath .... There must be a sufficient number of peacekeeping forces and fighting in Syria must stop."
To discuss the proposed Arab force, Inside Syria, with presenter Laura Kyle, speaks to gueats: Hassan Hachimi, a member of the general secretariat of the Syrian National Council; Elias Hanna, a military analyst and retired military general in the Lebanese army; and Joseph Kechichian, an independent Middle East analyst and columnist for Gulf News.

"The Syrian opposition are in a position – and they have been for a long time crying for any type of help to try and stop the bloodshed in Syria. We are in a situation where we are losing every single day 150-200 lives. And this has been going on for a year and a half – and today when I hear rhetoric of obstacles – of course none of the initiatives will be an easy one or a straight-forward solution – any proposal will definitely need a lot to make it work .... The Arabs are the first who would be expected to come forward and help the people of Syria."
Hassan Hachimi, a member of the general secretariat of the Syrian National Council

    Haggai 1:9
Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith the Lord of hosts. Because of mine house that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.

Churlish souls stint their contributions to the ministry and missionary operations, and call such saving good economy; little do they dream that they are thus impoverishing themselves. Their excuse is that they must care for their own families, and they forget that to neglect the house of God is the sure way to bring ruin upon their own houses. Our God has a method in providence by which He can succeed our endeavours beyond our expectation, or can defeat our plans to our confusion and dismay; by a turn of His hand He can steer our vessel in a profitable channel, or run it aground in poverty and bankruptcy. It is the teaching of Scripture that the Lord enriches the liberal and leaves the miserly to find out that withholding tendeth to poverty. In a very wide sphere of observation, I have noticed that the most generous Christians of my acquaintance have been always the most happy, and almost invariably the most prosperous. I have seen the liberal giver rise to wealth of which he never dreamed; and I have as often seen the mean, ungenerous churl descend to poverty by the very parsimony by which he thought to rise. Men trust good stewards with larger and larger sums, and so it frequently is with the Lord; He gives by cartloads to those who give by bushels. Where wealth is not bestowed the Lord makes the little much by the contentment which the sanctified heart feels in a portion of which the tithe has been dedicated to the Lord. Selfishness looks first at home, but godliness seeks first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, yet in the long run selfishness is loss, and godliness is great gain. It needs faith to act towards our God with an open hand, but surely He deserves it of us; and all that we can do is a very poor acknowledgment of our amazing indebtedness to His goodness.
