Saudi Princess opens up about women's rights in her country

Ameerah al-Taweel is a privileged princess from Saudi Arabia; but she is also on the frontlines of fighting for women’s rights in her country, which is among the most oppressive for women anywhere in the world.
Her husband, Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, is one of the richest men in the world and is the nephew of Saudi King Abdullah.
In that Kingdom, a woman can't travel alone, can't drive a car and can't even take a job without the approval of her male guardian.
But the Princess Ameerah is speaking out in ways clerics and conservatives in Saudi Arabia don't really want to hear.
Ameerah says she’s often asked why women can’t drive in Saudi Arabia, which she believes should be reformed.
“I think it's a very easy decision. And it is for the government. A lot of people are saying this is a social issue…. Education was a social issue. And a lot of people in Saudi Arabia were against women getting educated. Yet the decision was made.”
She says 57 percent of university graduates are now women.
Being such an open member of the royal family doesn’t always win her points. She says she does get pushback.
“I received some criticisms and I do get some negative feedback. But at the same time, I don't represent all Saudi women. There are Saudi women who are against such a movement. I represent maybe a sector of young Saudi women.”
Ameerah says conservatives have an amazing lobby within the Kingdom.
“They know how to voice out their opinions. Us women, not yet,” she says. “Yes, we are very educated. We know exactly what we want, but we're not organized.”
She says conservatives are also savvy at using op-eds and social media to help get their message out. And while more liberal-minded women are taking to these mediums, Ameerah says they have yet to unite to find combined strength.
She is in New York to announce a global project, millions of dollars from her foundation to improve economic and job opportunities and also help resolve conflicting religious views.
She says it’s been very unfortunate to witness the violent acts among Arab youth in response to the anti-Muslim film on YouTube.
“[The film] was offensive. It was wrong. And at the same time, the reaction of violence, killing innocent people who had nothing to do with the film is wrong as well. Two wrongs don't make a right.”
Ameerah says the lack of institutions in the Arab world is working against youths.
“Now they have the chance to express themselves; they have freedom of speech, and at the same time, there isn't any channel whereby they express their opinions in an appropriate manner – a civil society or NGOs. Even their own new governments are not well structured yet.”
She hopes her initiative can help bridge the gap for the wider Muslim world and specifically for women in her country.
“You have a lot of women starting their own lobbies, and it's about time that we get together and we voice out our concerns, just like the conservatives do, through democratic means, where we don't put ourselves in the face of danger.”

A BILL
To provide limitations on United States assistance, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,
SECTION 1. LIMITATION ON FOREIGN ASSISTANCE.
(a) Prohibition- No amounts may be obligated or expended to provide any direct United States assistance, loan guarantee, or debt relief to a Government described under subsection (b).
(b) Covered Governments- The Governments referred to in subsection (a) are as follows:
(1) The Government of Libya.
(2) The Government of Egypt.
(3) The Government of Pakistan.
(4) The Government of a host country of a United States diplomatic facility on the list submitted to Congress pursuant to subsection (c).
(c) Determination by Secretary- The Secretary of State shall submit to Congress a list of all United States diplomatic facilities attacked, trespassed upon, breached, or attempted to be attacked, trespassed upon, or breached on or after September 1, 2012, not later than 5 days after the date of enactment of this Act and not later than 5 days after any subsequent attack, trespass, breach, or attempt.
(d) Certification- Beginning 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the President may certify to Congress that--
(1) a Government described under subsection (b)--
(A) is cooperating or has cooperated fully with investigations into an attack, trespass, breach, or attempted attack, trespass, or breach;
(B) has arrested or facilitated the arrest of, and if requested has permitted extradition of, all identifiable persons in such country associated with organizing, planning, or participating in the attack, trespass, breach, or attempted attack, trespass, or breach;
(C) is facilitating or has facilitated any security improvements at United States diplomatic facilities, as requested by the United States Government; and
(D) is taking or has taken sufficient steps to strengthen and improve reliability of local security in order to prevent any future attack, trespass, or breach; and
(2) all identifiable persons associated with organizing, planning, or participating in the attack, trespass, breach, or attempted attack, trespass, or breach--
(A) have been identified by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, the Bureau of Diplomatic Security, or other United States law enforcement entity; and
(B) are in United States custody.
(e) Request to Suspend Prohibition on Foreign Assistance-
(1) IN GENERAL- Except as provided under paragraph (2), upon submitting a certification under subsection (d) with respect to a Government described under subsection (b), the President may submit a request to Congress to suspend the prohibition on foreign assistance to the Government.
(2) PAKISTAN- No request under paragraph (1) may be submitted with respect to the Government of Pakistan until--
(A) Dr. Shakil Afridi has been released alive from prison in Pakistan;
(B) any criminal charges brought against Dr. Afridi, including treason, have been dropped; and
(C) if necessary to ensure his freedom, Dr. Afridi has been allowed to leave Pakistan alive.
(f) Expedited Consideration of Presidential Request-
(1) IN GENERAL- For purposes of this subsection, the term `joint resolution' means only a joint resolution introduced in the period beginning on the date on which a request under subsection (e) is received by Congress and ending 60 days thereafter (excluding days either House of Congress is adjourned for more than 3 days during a session of Congress), the matter after the resolving clause of which is as follows: `That Congress approves the request submitted by the President to suspend the prohibition on foreign assistance to the Government of XX in effect sinceXX, and such prohibition shall have no force or effect.'(The blank spaces being appropriately filled in).
(2) REFERRAL- A joint resolution described in paragraph (1) shall be referred to the committees in each House of Congress with jurisdiction.
(3) SUBMISSION DATE DEFINED- For purposes of this section, the term `submission date' means the date on which a House of Congress receives the request submitted under subsection (e).
(4) DISCHARGE OF SENATE COMMITTEE- In the Senate, if the committee to which is referred a joint resolution described in paragraph (1) has not reported such joint resolution (or an identical joint resolution) at the end of 20 calendar days after the submission date, such committee may be discharged from further consideration of such joint resolution upon a petition supported in writing by 30 Senators, and such joint resolution shall be placed on the calendar.
(5) SENATE CONSIDERATION OF RESOLUTION-
(A) MOTIONS- In the Senate, when the committee to which a joint resolution is referred has reported, or when a committee is discharged (under paragraph (4)) from further consideration of a joint resolution described in paragraph (1), it is at any time thereafter in order (even though a previous motion to the same effect has been disagreed to) for a motion to proceed to the consideration of the joint resolution, and all points of order against the joint resolution (and against consideration of the joint resolution) are waived. The motion is not subject to amendment, or to a motion to postpone, or to a motion to proceed to the consideration of other business. A motion to reconsider the vote by which the motion is agreed to or disagreed to shall not be in order. If a motion to proceed to the consideration of the joint resolution is agreed to, the joint resolution shall remain the unfinished business of the Senate until disposed of.
(B) DEBATE- In the Senate, debate on the joint resolution, and on all debatable motions and appeals in connection therewith, shall be limited to not more than 10 hours, which shall be divided equally between those favoring and those opposing the joint resolution. A motion further to limit debate is in order and not debatable. An amendment to, or a motion to postpone, or a motion to proceed to the consideration of other business, or a motion to recommit the joint resolution is not in order.
(C) VOTE ON PASSAGE- In the Senate, immediately following the conclusion of the debate on a joint resolution described in paragraph (1), and a single quorum call at the conclusion of the debate if requested in accordance with the rules of the Senate, the vote on final passage of the joint resolution shall occur.
(D) APPEALS OF DECISIONS OF THE CHAIR- Appeals from the decisions of the Chair relating to the application of the rules of the Senate to the procedure relating to a joint resolution described in paragraph (1) shall be decided without debate.
(6) INAPPLICABILITY OF CERTAIN PROVISIONS- In the Senate, the procedures specified in paragraph (4) or (5) shall not apply to the consideration of a joint resolution respecting a request--
(A) after the expiration of the 60 session days beginning with the applicable submission date; or
(B) if the request submitted under subsection (e) was submitted during the period beginning on the date occurring--
(i) in the case of the Senate, 60 session days, or
(ii) in the case of the House of Representatives, 60 legislative days,
before the date the Congress adjourns a session of Congress through the date on which the same or succeeding Congress first convenes its next session, after the expiration of the 60 session days beginning on the 15th session day after the succeeding session of Congress first convenes.
(7) RECEIPT OF JOINT RESOLUTION FROM OTHER HOUSE- If, before the passage by one House of a joint resolution of that House described in paragraph (1), that House receives from the other House a joint resolution described in paragraph (1), then the following procedures shall apply:
(A) The joint resolution of the other House shall not be referred to a committee.
(B) With respect to a joint resolution described in paragraph (1) of the House receiving the joint resolution--
(i) the procedure in that House shall be the same as if no joint resolution had been received from the other House; but
(ii) the vote on passage shall be on the joint resolution of the other House.
(g) Report on Unsecured Weapons in Libya- Not later than 90 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the President shall submit a report to Congress examining the extent to which advanced weaponry remaining unsecured after the fall of Moammar Qaddafi was used by the individuals responsible for the September 11, 2012, attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya.
(h) Rule of Construction- Nothing in this section may be construed as an authorization for the use of military force.

CNN host Anderson Cooper admitted on Friday that the network had come across the late Ambassador Christopher Stevens' personal journal and used parts of it in its reporting without disclosing the source.
On Wednesday on his show Anderson Cooper 360, the journalist told Senator John McCain that 'a source familiar with Ambassador Stevens' thinking told us that in the months before his death he talked about being worried about the never-ending security threats that he was facing in Benghazi, and specifically about the rise in Islamist extremism and growing al Qaeda presence.'
Cooper added that 'the source also mentioned [Stevens] being on an al Qaeda hit list.'

Two days later, Cooper acknowledged that the network had obtained Stevens' journal, and that some of the information regarding the late ambassador’s thought process in the months leading to the deadly September 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was drawn from his entries.

'We came upon the journal through our reporting and notified the family. At their request, we returned that journal to them. We reported what we found newsworthy in the ambassador's writings. A reporter followed up on what we found newsworthy, as I said, in the ambassador's writings,' Cooper concluded.
The Daily Mail reached out to CNN for comment, but did not receive an immediate response.
Shortly after 1am on Saturday, CNN published a story without a by-line on its website explaining how the journal came into its possession, and how the information it contains was used in the network's reporting.
According to the article, CNN found Stevens’ journal four days after the ambassador was killed by Libyans protesting an anti-Muslim film produced by an American filmmaker.

Ravaged embassy: CNN described the U.S. consulate compound as being largely abandoned by the time its staff arrived there following the attack

The journal consisting of seven handwritten pages in a hard-bound book was found on the floor of the ravaged consulate compound where Stevens was fatally wounded.
The network notified Stevens' family about the journal within hours of its discovery and handed it over to the slain envoy's relatives at their request via a third party.
The network stated that it used Stevens’ entries as tips shedding light on the situation in Libya and in Benghazi in particular.
Last memento: CNN said it notified Stevens' family of the find and at their request handed over the journal to his relatives via a third party
‘CNN took the newsworthy tips and corroborated them with other sources,’ the article said.
If CNN’s version of events is to be believed, the ‘source familiar with the ambassador's thinking’ mentioned by Cooper during Wednesday’s show was not Stevens’ journal since the network claims it only used tips from his entries.
However, it remains unclear why CNN did not reveal that it had found Stevens’ journal until Friday.

OBAMA SLIDES TALIBAN LAWYER INTO TOP SPOT AT JUSTICE DEPARTMENT
Sep 19, 2012 7 Comments Infidel كافر(FREE BEACON) A lawyer who came to prominence for his full-throated defense of a subsequently convicted terrorist was quietly promoted to the No. 3 slot at the Department of Justice last month, a post that puts him in charge of the administration’s policy regarding Guantanamo Bay detainees.
The move has raised red flags on Capitol Hill and elsewhere among national security stalwarts who argue that the promotion could imperil the country’s longstanding war on terrorism.
The Obama administration appointee at the center of the debate is Tony West, a longtime Justice Department lawyer who received national attention for his aggressive defense of John Walker Lindh, the so-called American Taliban who is currently serving 20-years in prison for colluding with al Qaeda in Afghanistan and taking up arms against U.S. troops.
Late last month, President Obama appointed West as the DOJ’s acting associate attorney general, a posting that does not require Senate confirmation. He formally began the job on Monday.
As the department’s third in command, West is tasked with defending a broad array of legal matters, such as Obama’s controversial health care law and civil rights issues. He also will be in charge of “litigating national security cases, such as habeas corpus petitions brought by detainees at Guantanamo Bay,” according to the DOJ.
National security experts and some in Congress worry that West’s extensive and controversial past has left him unfit to oversee Gitmo, the Cuba-based detention facility that houses some of the world’s most dangerous enemy combatants.
“In any other Justice Department, in any other administration, representing the enemies of the United States would have been a disqualifier for a job inside DOJ setting detainee policy,” said J. Christian Adams, a former DOJ official in the department’s civil rights division. “But in [Attorney General] Eric Holder’s DOJ, it seems to be the chief prerequisite.”
Rep. Joe Walsh (R., Ill.), who has been a vocal congressional opponent of Obama’s national security policy, said that West’s promotion reveals a hazardous pattern and practice within the administration.

How embarrassing this must be for President Obama, whose major speech theme so far this campaign season has been that every single American, no matter how rich, should pay their "fair share" of taxes.
Because how unfair -- indeed, un-American -- it is for an office worker like, say, Warren Buffet's secretary to dutifully pay her taxes, while some well-to-do people with better educations and higher incomes end up paying a much smaller tax rate.
Or, worse, skipping their taxes altogether.
A new report just out from the Internal Revenue Service reveals that 36 of President Obama's executive office staff owe the country $833,970 in back taxes. These people working for Mr. Fair Share apparently haven't paid any share, let alone their fair share.
Previous reports have shown how well-paid Obama's White House staff is, with 457 aides pulling down more than $37 million last year. That's up seven workers and nearly $4 million from the Bush administration's last year.
Nearly one-third of Obama's aides make more than $100,000 with 21 being paid the top White House salary of $172,200, each.
The IRS' 2010 delinquent tax revelations come as part of a required annual agency report on federal employees' tax compliance. Turns out, an awful lot of folks being paid by taxpayers are not paying their own income taxes.
The report finds that thousands of federal employees owe the country more than $3.4 billion in back taxes. That's up 3% in the past year.
That scale of delinquency could annoy voters, hard-pressed by their own costs, fears and stubbornly high unemployment despite Joe Biden's many promises.
The tax offenders include employees of the U.S. Senate who help write the laws imposed on everyone else. They owe $2.1 million. Workers in the House of Representatives owe $8.5 million, Department of Education employees owe $4.3 million and over at Homeland Security, 4,697 workers owe about $37 million. Active duty military members owe more than $100 million.
The Treasury Department, where Obama nominee Tim Geithner had to pay up $42,000 in his own back taxes before being confirmed as secretary, has 1,181 other employees with delinquent taxes totaling $9.3 million.
As usual, the Postal Service, with more than 600,000 workers, has the most offenders (25,640), who also owe the most -- almost $270 million. Veterans Affairs has 11,659 workers owing the IRS $151 million while the Energy Department that was so quick to dish out more than $500 million to the Solyndra folks has 322 employees owing $5 million.
The country's chief law enforcement agency, the Department of Justice, has 2,069 employees who are nearly $17 million behind in taxes. Like Operation Fast and Furious, Attorney General Eric Holder has apparently missed them too.
As with ordinary people, the IRS attempts to negotiate back-tax payment plans with all delinquents, whose names cannot be released. But according to current federal law, the only federal employees who can be fired for not paying taxes are IRS workers.

Mitt Romney's campaign, in its latest attempt to respond to calls to release more years of tax returns, announced Friday that the Republican candidate averaged a 20 percent effective tax rate for the previous 20 years and never paid less than 13.66 percent.But the campaign is sticking by the candidate's vow not to release more than his last two tax returns, which critics have made into a potent campaign issue.
Romney also released his final tax return for 2011 on Friday. That document shows the Romneys paid $1.9 million in taxes on nearly $14 million in income, mostly from investments, giving them an effective tax rate of 14.1 percent.
The Romneys donated about $4 million to charity in 2011, or about 30 percent of their income, the document shows. Romney previously released his 2010 tax return but no others.
Democrats have called on Romney to release previous years' tax returns, as other candidates have in past elections, and some have suggested Romney is trying to cover up years when he may not have owed or paid any taxes.
But the campaign affirmed Friday in a blog post
that "in each year" from 1990 to 2009, "the Romneys owed both state and federal income taxes," with the federal effective rate averaging 20.2 percent. Annual charity giving averaged 13.5 percent during that period, the campaign said.The country's highest federal tax rate is 35 percent, though the Romneys and most Americans end up paying smaller percentages of their income in taxes after deductions and tax credits. Also, capital gains are taxed at only 15 percent.
President Obama and Michelle Obama had reported taxes of $162,000 on an income of $790,000 on their 2011 tax return, for an effective tax rate of 20.5 percent. Most of that income came from sales of the president's books.
The middle 20 percent of all American taxpayers has paid an average effective tax rate of 3 percent to 9 percent since 1990, according to the Tax Policy Center, while the top 1 percent's average rate ranged from 18 percent to 24 percent over that period.
The question of Romney's tax returns has been a thorn in the side of his campaign dating back to the Republican primary race, and it intensified when Democrats took up the fight to suggest the candidate had something to hide.
Most notably, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid claimed to have spoken to someone involved in Romney's former venture capital firm Bain Capital who said Romney had paid no taxes for 10 years, though Reid has never named his source nor provided any evidence to back up the claim.
Romney has adamantly denied that claim saying at one point, "I have paid taxes every year, and a lot of taxes."
Reid and other Democrats have repeatedly invoked the example of Romney's father, George Romney, who as Michigan governor released 12 years of tax returns during his unsuccessful 1968 bid for the Republican presidential nomination.
Mitt Romney has countered that he already has done more than what is required. Presidential candidates typically release past tax returns, but they are not required to do so by law.

Western powers and several of their Middle East allies have deployed an enormous naval fleet to the Persian Gulf just days after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu again suggested that his country may soon launch a preemptive strike against Iran's nuclear facilities.
The fleet includes ships from 25 nations, include three full US carrier groups, each one with a compliment of more aircraft than the entire Iranian air force. Military officials cited by London's Daily Telegraph said the buildup is part of a new annual exercise, but their was no secrecy about the fact that the "enemy" in the exercise is Iran.
There is great fear among Western powers that if Israel strikes Iran's defiant nuclear program, the Islamic Republic will retaliate by trying to close the Straits of Hormuz, a narrow waterway in the Persian Gulf that that sees the daily transit of 18 million barrels of oil, or roughly 35 percent of the world's traded oil. For that oil tap to be shut off would have potentially catastrophic consequences for the economies of the US, Britain, the Euro Zone and Japan, among others.
There is also great concern that Israel is planning to strike Iran before the US presidential election in November in order to force President Barack Obama to militarily support the effort. Obama would likely lose a lot of votes among the pro-Israel American public if he did not help, and Jerusalem is worried that if it waits until after the election and Obama wins, he will be less inclined to provide assistance.
American and European officials have conducted a flurry of meetings with Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak over the past month, ostensibly to pressure Israel against using military force at this time. Obama and other Western leaders continue to insist that there is hope for a diplomatic solution, despite recent reports by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) suggesting that the past 10 years of diplomatic efforts have only served to accelerate Iran's nuclear program.
"The world tells Israel 'Wait, there’s still time.’ And I say, 'Wait for what? Wait until when?’," Netanyahu said last week. "Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don’t have a moral right to place a red light before Israel."
Netanyahu reiterated the urgency of the situation in a series of interviews with the American press over the weekend.
Asked on NBC's Meet the Press program about the possibility of implementing a containment strategy as was done with the Soviet Union after it went nuclear, Netanyahu said the West was underestimating the fanaticism that rules Iran.
"I think Iran is very different, they put their zealotry above survival... I wouldn't rely on their rationality," said the Israeli leader. "It's the same fanaticism that you see storming your embassies today. You want these fanatics to have nuclear weapons?"

The Left-wing Disinformation Campaign To Deflate Your Enthusiasm

The Romney-Ryan campaign is not in disarray. Mitt Romney is not short on money, but Obama is. Romney has people like the Koch brothers and Sheldon Adelson ready to spend “whatever” is necessary to win. Obama burned through $120 million attacking Romney. Has anyone even heard the word “Bain” lately? How about “tax returns”, “he’s a felon”, or “offshore bank accounts” – not one of those words and phrases laid a glove on Romney – and Obama can’t get that $120 million back.
Here are the facts:
Barack Obama is not winning any group he didn’t win in 2008; he is not doing better with any group he did win in 2008; not Jews, not young voters, not Hispanics, not blacks, and not women.
Even CNN’s latest streaming pile-of-dung poll found Republican enthusiasm 6 points higher than Democrat enthusiasm. It found that Independent voters favor Romney by 14 points, and this agreed with Carville and Greenberg’s Democracy Corps survey.
For the first time ever, black ministers are telling their parishioners to stay home on Election Day. A May poll in North Carolina – yes PPP – found 20% of blacks ready to vote for Romney over Obama’s gay marriage position. A Georgia Gallup poll in May found the same 20% of blacks ready to vote for Romney. A late August poll in Michigan found that 23% of blacks would vote for Romney, and an unreported NAACP poll in Florida (I have a very reliable source but no link) found 23% of Sunshine State blacks lining up behind Romney.
Catholic support is at 27%, exactly half of what it was in 2008. No Democrat has ever won the presidency while losing the Catholic vote, and Obama isn’t even close.
As per Rasmussen, Republican registration has grown since June and is now at its historic high. At 37.6%, it is 4.3% higher than the Democrat registration, which is less than one point above its lowest point ever.
For prospective, the spread in registration was 1.3 points just before the 2010 election. The spread is more than three times larger now.

WASHINGTON – While Iran swears it doesn’t have nuclear weapons, the Western thinking that it’s working on such a program despite crippling sanctions of questionable results is having the effect of enhancing the Islamic republic’s international stature, according to a report from Joseph Farah’s G2 Bulletin.
The NPT doesn’t preclude the possibility Iran or any other NPT signatory or member of the International Atomic Energy Agency could build the components to make a nuclear weapon, without actually putting the components together to make one.
The question of the existence of an Iranian nuclear weapons program – absent firm intelligence – helps Iran leave open the possibility that such a program exists and that it could possess the means to build a nuclear bomb rapidly, without actually having such a program, analysts say.
To these analysts, this approach has allowed Iran to rub shoulders with the “big boys” – the P5+1, or United Nations Security Council members of the permanent five of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China plus Germany.
In pressing its right under the NPT to enrich uranium despite sanctions, Iran actually has gained considerable concessions, and is able to meet with the members. It also has been successful at meetings to kick the proverbial can down the road – to get the P5+1 members to agree to meet again. This has bought Iran more time for developing its nuclear program – the West, including Israel, believe.
And this is where the U.S. and Israel disagree – the U.S., unlike Israel, doesn’t believe that Iran has achieved the technological breakthrough to make a nuclear weapon, let alone the capability of placing it on a missile requiring additional technology know-how that Iran isn’t yet assessed to possess. On the other hand, Israel believes Iran is only months away of such breakthroughs.
The heart of the problem, according to analysts, appears to be the exchange of rhetoric between Israel and Iran.
According to George Friedman of the open intelligence group Stratfor, Israel – and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in particular – looks on Iran as an irrational actor and that armed with a nuclear weapon it would act irrationally and make every effort to destroy Israel.
While Iran has expressed what Friedman says is irrational rhetoric, Iran actually has been cautious in its actions, “engaging instead in reckless rhetoric.”
Given this fundamental difference in perceptions, Israel believes it is intolerable for Iran to have nuclear weapons in a mutually assured destruction, or MAD, relationship, similar to what worked during the Cold War between the then-Soviet Union and the United States and its allies.
All of this assumes that Iran indeed is embarked on a nuclear weapons program. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has issued a fatwa, or religious edict, saying that its nuclear development program is not intended to make a nuclear weapon.
Given Iran’s irrational talk about Israel’s destruction, however, Netanyahu firmly believes that such irrational Iranian talk means that the Islamic republic indeed is embarked on developing a nuclear weapon and actually intends to use it against Israel.
Israel, however, appears divided on this issue. Netanyahu’s view that Iran is an irrational actor is contrary to the assessment of his own military and intelligence chiefs.
Given Netanyahu’s prevalent thinking, the notion of MAD won’t work. Any actual Israeli military attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities, analysts suggest, actually could accelerate an Iranian effort to turn its nuclear program into developing nuclear weapons.
This prospect has been reinforced by separate research that showed the 1981 Israeli attack on Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor actually pushed then-Iraqi President Saddam Hussein to try to make nuclear weapons.
Yet, Israel hasn’t taken action, claiming it is waiting for the U.S. to join it in destroying Iran’s nuclear sites.
In looking at a years-long rhetorical exchange between Israel and Iran, Friedman lays out their respective strategies in his recent article, “War and Bluff: Iran, Israel and the United States.”
He states:
“Up to this point, the Iranians have not even fielded a device for testing, let alone a deliverable weapon. For all their activity, either their technical limitations or a political decision has kept them from actually crossing the obvious redlines and left Israel trying to define some developmental redline.
“Iran’s approach has created a slowly unfolding crisis, reinforced by Israel’s slowly rolling response. For its part, all of Israel’s rhetoric – and periodic threats of imminent attack – has been going on for several years, but the Israelis have done little beyond some cover and cyberattacks to block the Iranian nuclear program. Just as the gap between Iranian rhetoric and action has been telling, so, too, has the gap between Israeli rhetoric and reality. Both want to appear more fearsome than either is actually willing to act.
“The Iranian strategy has been to maintain ambiguity on the status of its program, while making it appear that the program is capable of sudden success – without ever achieving that success. The Israeli strategy has been to appear constantly on the verge of attack without ever attacking and to use the United States as its reason for withholding attacks, along with the studied ambiguity of the Iranian program. The United States, for its part, has been content playing the role of holding Israel back from an attack that Israel doesn’t seem to want to launch. The United States sees the crumbling of Iran’s position in Syria as a major Iranian reversal and is content to see this play out alongside sanctions.”
Iran, however, has dispersed its nuclear program around the country to the point that any military attack may produce questionable results unless Israel uses some exotic weapon, such as an electromagnetic pulse from a high-altitude nuclear explosion over central Iran. That would affect all electronics not only in Iran but the entire Middle East.
This approach, analysts say, would allow Israel to proceed with bombing Iran’s nuclear facilities virtually without detection or resistance.
Separately, WND/G2Bulletin recently reported that an EMP attack is one option Israel is considering.
Friedman says that while Israel on the surface has been driving U.S. policy, he said the reverse may be true.
“Israel has bluffed an attack for years and never acted. Perhaps now it will act, but the risks of failure are substantial,” Friedman said. “If Israel really wants to act, this is not obvious.
“Speeches by politicians do not constitute clear guidelines,” he said. “If the Israelis want to get the United States to participate in the attack, rhetoric won’t work. Washington wants to proceed by increasing pressure to isolate Iran.
“Simply getting rid of a nuclear program not clearly intended to produce a device is not U.S. policy,” he added. “Containing Iran without being drawn into a war is. To this end, Israeli rhetoric is useful.”
Friedman sees Netanyahu’s rhetoric as actually aiding U.S. policy.
“Israel’s bellicosity is not meant to signal an imminent attack, but to support the U.S. agenda of isolating and maintaining pressure on Iran,” he said. “That would indicate more speeches from Netanyahu and greater fear of war. But speeches and emotions aside, intensifying psychological pressure on Iran is more likely than war.”

Health Care Reform Act of 2012: Standardization of Procedural and Medical Care Related Costs

Purpose: This concerns the exploitation of health care costs by health insurance companies for profit, companies who are dictating the cost of care that hospitals must charge patients. This legislation is piloting standards for Medicare and Medicaid costs, to prevent the government from being overcharged for services that taxpayers fund for the general welfare. Costs that could better be served creating a program to cover those that are uninsured at state levels, which did not occur with any of the legislation passed under Obama health reform.
While a legitimate funding mechanism was proposed for health care for the uninsured, in order to maintain the solvency and guarantee of retirement for aging Americans through Social Security Reforms proposed August of 2010 as repeal legislation:

Inflation and government shutdown pending September 30th 2012, makes this the 5th shutdown the Obama Administration faces for failure to restrict spending to Constitutional levels which makes getting care in this economy that much harder, especially for those unemployed.
The consensus is the only two provisions remaining from the dead legislation and mountain of dysfunctional legislation package known as “Obamacare” are requiring insurance companies to keep children on parents’ insurance until 26yrs. of age and non-exclusion of pre-existing conditions. While these are great, these two provisions are not enough to keep H.R. 4872 as a means of reconciling the entire health care industry by a federal government buyout. Health insurance companies should ‘insure’ and the federal government should regulate and govern the market, not violate the Commerce Clause by requiring purchase of insurance or medical services, devices, products, or care that is inappropriate, unused, or misappropriated and unaccounted for tax increases.

With that said, the Tea Party supports the Republican initiatives to adhere to this budget, budget balancing, with consideration and concession of government spending in accordance to Constitutional priorities. Diplomacy spending on food stamps has increased 100% since Obama took office, which has further compounded the amount of time left to reverse this deficit and prevent government shutdown, little time to reform federal programs past their sunset that are bloated for their inefficiency with their strain on the overall budget. This all equals less money is actually making it to the poor and those needing health care; hence the stark example being no one has health insurance that is uninsured despite passage of this Obamacare package legislation.
REQUIREMENTS OF HOSPITAL AND INSURANCE REFORMS:
- One issue is a monthly premium under $100 that includes a hospital supplemental plan:
Hospitals and insurance companies have played a highly elaborate game of ping-pong when it comes to overcharging for services and supplies in order to write-off indigent care to profit off of the health care industry. Private practice doctors are at the mercy of whether or not Medicare, Medicaid, or insurance pays in order to see their patients rather than their Oath.
- Require hospitals detail a service contract and what care costs in writing.
-The method of pricing each good and service
-The reasonable value of each good and service
- Hospitals will be required to upgrade their records to be accessible to be viewed by the I.R.S. and government health related agencies. As a provision of the current legislation, a standard interface was considered to standardize forms, track supplies and costs, and prevent waste, fraud, and abuse. FOR CONSUMERS TO REPORT SUSPECTED GOUGING AND FRAUD OF GOVERNMENT TAX DOLLARS:
1) REQUESTED AN ITEMIZED BILL: I received a list of shorthand descriptions of services that I couldn’t understand. For example: a $403.68 charge for “IV SUPPLIES”. What were the IV Supplies? The needle? The tubing? The gauze? The piece of tape that kept it all in place on my arm? I called to find out. I was referred to three people, but nobody in the hospital billing department could tell me.
2) DETERMINED FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF MY INSURANCE COMPANY: Blue Cross assured me that they paid out their maximum reimbursement amounts to the hospital for the services I received, and would not be paying any more. They sent me an Explanation Of Benefits form (EOB) and went over it with me to my satisfaction. They said that they were able to negotiate a lower rate with the hospital on my behalf, and covered costs that exceeded my deductable. They suggested that I contact the hospital to see if they would lower my costs, since the hospital determines their own charges.
3) FOUND A PATIENT ADVOCATE: I went online to find people who have gone through this before and discovered a number of Patient Advocacy groups. A couple of them are: Hospital Victims.org (http://www.hospitalvictims.org/) and The Southwest Medical Review and Recovery. (http://www.southwestmedreview.com/) Southwest Medical Review has over 20 years of hospital billing experience under their belt, and left the industry when they realized that they could help people with their knowledge of billing systems. I found them to be very patient and extraordinarily knowledgeable.
4) REVIEWED BILL FOR CORRECT CODING: I sent my itemized bill to my patient advocate for review. A billing code is assigned to each item being charged. This is what is read by the insurance companies to determine how much the hospital will be paid. I learned that up to 90% of all hospital bills are coded incorrectly. My patient advocate told me that there is supposed to be transparency in the billing system – and that there are definitive coding guidelines that apply to each hospital. However, this hospital administers their own coding system – making it impossible to determine exactly what is being charged. Despite this, my patient advocate was able to figure out three incorrect codes in my bill, resulting in over $300 of erroneous charges. They forwarded me the proper verbiage from the most recent coding manual. I went back to the billing department at the hospital and had them amend my bill. The billing specialist apologized for her oversight and resubmitted my bill with the proper coding. I can only wonder how many more codes were erroneous, had they been using a transparent billing system.
5) REQUESTED ALL BILLING AND DOCTOR RECORDS FROM HOSPITAL – PARTICULARLY THE UB-04 FORM: It is the patient’s right, under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, (HIPAA) to receive a copy of all medical and billing records from the hospital. The UB-04 form is used to determine the cost of services. The billing department at the hospital first told me that they would look into releasing my UB-04 form. After repeated requests, I was told that it was not their policy to release this form to the patient. This is typical. Know your rights as a patient. Every hospital has a HIPAA officer on the premises. I called theirs. She said she would look into it for me. I didn’t hear back. She didn’t return my messages. I then contacted the California Office of HIPPA Implementation. They agreed to contact the HIPPA officer at the hospital. A day later, the HIPPA officer called me to get my address and let me know that my UB-04 form was being sent to me. Release of my U-04 form took me a full year.
· The sections of the HIPAA legislation that the state officer referred to were two federal 45 CFR codes: The Designated Record set was under code 164.501 and the Right of Access was 164.524 (a)(1)
6) DESPITE REMAINING IN GOOD STANDING WITH THE HOSPITAL, I WAS SENT TO COLLECTIONS: I kept meticulously close contact with the billing department, who insured me that I was in good standing with them. Every month, when I received a new bill, I called them and assured them that I wanted to settle the balance, and that I was investigating charges that were in question. Each month, I told them that is was my priority to remain in good standing with them. I even paid them $50 in good faith. But when I went out of town, and didn’t get my mail for a week, I was sent to collections. This was also during the time that I was being told that they were “looking into sending out” my UB-04 form. My challenge here was to keep the perspective that it wasn’t personal. Even though I was on a first name basis with many people in the billing department at that point, the overall billing system didn’t know or care about who I was. I needed to be reminded of this – because I was assured that I was kept in good standing with them.
7) KEPT COLLECTIONS DEPARTMENT FROM PURSUING FURTHER PAYMENT: Diligent effort through close communication and refusal to pay any overcharges for my services kept them at bay. I assured them that I would keep them posted to each and every new bit of information that I received – and kept them in the loop every step of the way. I kept telling them that it was my utmost interest to settle the bill – but that I would only be paying fair and reasonable charges, as determined by industry standards.
8) DETERMINED THE COST OF SERVICES: With the codes on the UB-04 form, my patient advocate taught me how to figure out the cost of services. There is an industry standard for determining cost of services. It is simply what Medicare would reimburse for each line item. The reason why they use Medicare as the guideline is because Medicare reimburses between 92 cents and $1.12 on the dollar. So, for example, if Medicare would reimburse a hospital $1.00 for a box of tissues, it is understood that the cost of the box of tissues is between 92 cents and $1.12. My patient advocate and I went over, code by code, the line items on my UB-04 form. They showed me how to track down, on the internet, the reimbursement amount for each charge. Remember the $403.68 charge for “IV SUPPLIES” on my itemized bill? Well, it turns out that Medicare doesn’t reimburse that cost code – those supplies are not billable. Those supplies are included in numerous other services – like the cost for the antibiotic, the cost for administering the IV, etc. After the reimbursement for each line item was determined on my UB-04 form, I had a total – as calculated by industry standards. The total cost of services being billed to me for my emergency room visit came to a little less than $400!
9) CALCULATED FAIR AND REASONALBE CHARGES: There is an industry standard for calculating fair and reasonable charges. Fair and reasonable charges ensures the hospital receive a profit on their cost. Here is the formula: The amount that Medicare would reimburse the hospital + 25% to 50%. So, in my case, we know that the cost of services were – and we’ll round it up - $400. Add to that, 50%, which is $200 - and the industry standard, for fair and reasonable charges for the services that I received, was $600.
10) OFFERED A SETTLEMENT: Between what my insurance company and I had paid, the hospital had already received $905 at this point – already recouping a 125% profit – as determined by industry standards. I went back to the hospital and insisted that I settle with them, not the collections agency. They complied. I chose to offer an additional 100% profit, giving them a 225% profit on cost of services, to ensure that the hospital does well. They denied it. Instead, they offered me an application for financial assistance.
The silver lining is that I somehow qualified for an 80% discount on my bill. They offered me a settlement of $348. I took it. This does not get them off the hook for their enormous over charges, but it does allow me to settle with them what I considered to be fair and reasonable.

I feel secure knowing that there is a reputable, well funded hospital nearby. I just want to pay fair and reasonable charges for the services I receive from them.
I know that there is much talk of overhauling the health care system – but until it is changed, this is what we have to encounter. Here’s hoping that this information can help other people navigating through the existing system.

President Obama’s record of rewarding political donors with taxpayer dollars and plum administration posts is facing a new round of scrutiny thanks to GOP challenger Mitt Romney’s effort to make it a central issue of the campaign.
“[President Obama] thinks it’s his right to give taxpayer money to those who have supported him financially,” former Gov. John Sununu (R., N.H.) said Tuesday on a conference call hosted by the Romney campaign. “It’s insulting to hard-working entrepreneurs who really do create jobs.”
The most publicized instance of so-called “crony capitalism”—investing taxpayer dollars in firms tied to political donors—is the failed solar panel company Solyndra. The Fremont, Calif., firm was the first to receive a taxpayer-backed loan guarantee from the Department of Energy (DOE) in September 2009, worth more than $530 million. The funding for the loan was allocated in the controversial stimulus package passed earlier that year.
Obama bundler George Kaiser was a major stakeholder in Solyndra through his Kaiser Family Foundation, and made several trips to the White House in March 2009 to meet with senior administration officials. In July 2009, Kaiser bragged about securing face time with “all the key players in the West Wing of the White House,” as well as his “almost unique advantage” when it came to steering taxpayer funds toward his pet causes.
“There’s never been more money shoved out of the government’s door in world history, and probably never will be again, than in the last few months and in the next 18 months,” Kaiser told members of the Tulsa Rotary Club. “And our selfish parochial goal is to get as much as it for Tulsa and Oklahoma as we possibly can.”
Although things did not pan out for Solyndra—the company filed for bankruptcy in September 2011—Kaiser can expect to see a better return on his investment than American taxpayers. As part of an agreement to restructure Solyndra’s loan agreement in 2010, Obama’s DOE granted priority status to private investors like Kaiser with respect to the first $75 million recovered in the event of the firm’s bankruptcy, a move that many suspect violated federal law.
Emails uncovered by Congressional investigators reveal that Solyndra helped secure its $535 million loan guarantee with the help of Steve Spinner, another prominent Obama donor. After bundling more than $500,000 for Obama in 2008, Spinner was named to the White House transition team and later served as “chief strategic operations officer” of the DOE loan program that funded Solyndra.
Spinner’s wife Allison worked for a law firm that represented Solyndra and several other green energy outfits that applied for taxpayer funding. Records show that her firm, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, received $2.4 million in federal funds in legal fees associated with Solyndra’s loan application.
Spinner left the administration in September 2010 to become a senior fellow at the left-wing Center for American Progress, and has already bundled more than $500,000 for the president’s reelection campaign.
Solyndra is just one of many examples of quid pro quo in the DOE loans program; even the liberal Washington Post editorial board has described it as a “real scandal.”
“You can call it crony capitalism or venture socialism—but by whatever name, the Energy Department’s loan guarantee program privatizes profits and socializes losses,” the paper wrote in November 2011.
More than 70 percent of DOE and loans under Obama went to Democratic donors and bundlers, Peter Schweizer reported in Throw Them All Out.
A confidential 2009 memo authored by former White House economic adviser Larry Summers paints a damning picture of the administration’s approach to crafting the stimulus package.
“The short-run economic imperative was to identify as many campaign promises or high priority items that would spend out quickly and be inherently temporary,” Summers wrote. “The stimulus package is a key tool for advancing clean energy goals and fulfilling a number of campaign commitments.”
In several cases, including Solyndra, advancing the president’s green energy agenda went hand in hand with providing financial payoffs to prominent campaign donors.
California investment guru John Doerr, for example, has personally contributed more than $170,000 to Democratic campaigns and committees since 2008, and more than $2 million over the past 20 years. His investment firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), which lists former Vice President Al Gore as a partner, has given more than $1 million to Democrats since 2005.
An early and outspoken advocate for federal investment in “green” technology, Doerr was named to the president’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board in 2009, where he helped craft the $787 billion stimulus package. Of the 27 companies list in KPCB’s “green-tech” portfolio, 16 received some form of taxpayer support.
Another prominent Obama donor who has benefitted handsomely from the president’s policies is Steve Westly. A frequent guest at White House events and state dinners, Westley served as California co-chair and a National Finance Committee member of Obama’s 2008 campaign and currently sits on the DOE’s Energy Advisory Board.
He has bundled at least $700,000 in campaign donations for Obama since 2008 and personally given about $260,000 to Democratic campaigns and committees since 2007.
Westly’s investment firm, the Westly Group, had a financial stake in four green energy companies that received more than half a billion dollars in federal funding in 2009. The group’s website once touted the firm as being “uniquely positioned” to take advantage of the influx of taxpayer funding in green technology, and currently notes that “To win in the clean technology space, a company must navigate the halls of government.”
Westly has openly acknowledged that knowledge of federal policy is key to investing in green technology. In response to a reporter’s question about which green energy companies he likes to invest in, Westly said: “Who cares what I think. Let’s talk about ‘what does Obama like? Here’s what he likes,’ because here’s where the federal government is putting money. And let me tell you, whatever he likes, that’s what I like.”
One of the companies Obama “liked” was the Exelon Corporation, a Chicago-based utility and recipient of hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus funding. One of the most politically connected firms in the country, Exelon employees have made up one of President Obama’s top sources of campaign contributions throughout his career.
Exelon was Obama’s fourth-largest campaign donor when he ran for Senate in 2004, contributing more than $73,000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The firm donated $326,000 to Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008. The firm has ties to several top Obama bundlers, as well as to Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod and former White House chief of staff and current Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel.
As the Washington Free Beacon reported in June, an Exelon subsidiary was recently awarded a lucrative 20-year contract to install solar panels manufactured by federal inmates on government facilities.
Such cronyism is not exclusive to the green energy sector. DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has bundled at least $500,000 for Obama’s reelection campaign, and is the largest contributor to Priorities USA, the Obama-allied Super PAC.
The Securities and Exchange Commission is currently investigating whether DreamWorks made illegal payments to Chinese officials in order to secure exclusive film rights in the communist nation. The New York Times reported that Katzenberg, as well as Vice President Joe Biden, were intimately involved in negotiating an agreement under which China would up its annual quota of foreign-produced films from 20 to 34 and allow studios to keep a greater percentage of box-office revenue.

Obama bundler George Kaiser was a major stakeholder in Solyndra through his Kaiser Family Foundation, and made several trips to the White House in March 2009 to meet with senior administration officials. In July 2009, Kaiser bragged about securing face time with “all the key players in the West Wing of the White House,” as well as his “almost unique advantage” when it came to steering taxpayer funds toward his pet causes.
“There’s never been more money shoved out of the government’s door in world history, and probably never will be again, than in the last few months and in the next 18 months,” Kaiser told members of the Tulsa Rotary Club. “And our selfish parochial goal is to get as much as it for Tulsa and Oklahoma as we possibly can.”

DOE Cut Subordination Deal First with Solyndra’s Investors, then Created Legal Justification Hinged on Definition of the Word “Is.” Committee Releases Definitive Report On Administration’s Decision to Put Solyndra’s Wealthy Investors Ahead of Taxpayers – “No More Solyndras Act” Will Protect Taxpayers from Subordination in the Future

WASHINGTON, DC – As the Energy and Power Subcommittee prepares to vote on the “No More Solyndras Act,” the House Energy and Commerce Committee this morning released an extensive report on the legality of the Department of Energy’s decision to move Solyndra’s wealthy investors ahead of taxpayers in the restructuring of the solar company’s $535 million loan guarantee. Energy and Commerce members have raised significant concerns over this clear violation of the Energy Policy Act of 2005. According to the committee’s findings, DOE had already agreed on the terms of the restructuring and preferential treatment of the investors before conducting a legal analysis of whether its actions were in compliance with the law.
During its 18-month investigation into the failed half billion dollar loan guarantee, the committee revealed that DOE officials moved to restructure the Solyndra loan when it became apparent that Solyndra was running out of cash. With the company’s solvency in serious doubt, the Obama administration agreed to put wealthy investors at the front of the line in exchange for the investors contributing an additional $75 million to keep the company afloat.
After conducting an exhaustive review of the facts and circumstances relating to DOE’s decision to subordinate taxpayers’ interests, as well as of the legal arguments made by DOE in an attempt to justify its decision, the committee found DOE’s actions to be a clear violation of the law. The report states, “It is clear, based on the plain language of the statute and common principles of statutory interpretation, that subordination of a guaranteed loan to other financing, at any time during the life of the loan, violates subsection 1702(d)(3) of Title XVII. Further, Committee staff’s review of the manner in which the legal memorandum was drafted, and the reactions and opinions of other Executive Branch agencies regarding the subordination issue, demonstrate clearly that officials at DOE, OMB, and the Treasury Department did not believe that subordination was proper.”
According to the report, DOE also employed the “Clinton Defense” in distorting the definition of the word “is” in the statute to legally justify subordination. The report states, “DOE attempts to justify this reading of the provision by viewing the use of the word ‘is’ as a temporal limitation on the subordination requirement confined to the moment the Secretary issues the guarantee. In doing so, DOE ignores the rest of the language of the statute.”
While the plain letter of the law prohibits subordination, DOE has yet to accept responsibility for its unlawful actions. During a recent committee hearing, David Frantz, Acting Executive Director of the DOE Loan Programs Office, defended DOE’s decision and explained that DOE still believes it has the authority under the Energy Policy Act to subordinate its interest in a loan guarantee to another party, and that DOE would, if necessary, subordinate the taxpayers’ interest on other loan guarantees in the future.
Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) grilled Frantz over the legal authority of the department to put investors ahead of taxpayers, pointing to documents and emails uncovered by the committee’s investigation showing DOE was repeatedly warned against taking such action.
The committee report concludes, “When DOE agreed to subordinate its obligation to third-party financing, it did so in violation of the law. (T)he absence of a subordination scenario in DOE’s financial modeling assumptions strongly suggests that, prior to the restructuring, DOE and other Executive Branch agencies knew that subordination was not a legal option. The manner in which DOE’s memorandum was drafted and the reaction of other Executive Branch agencies cast further doubt on the legal conclusions of DOE.”
To stop DOE’s legal abuse and to ensure taxpayers are never again pushed to the back of the line, full committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns (R-FL) authored legislation enhancing protections against subordination of the taxpayers in the restructuring of any pending loan guarantees. In addition to phasing out the loan guarantee program, the “No More Solyndras Act” will prohibit DOE officials from restructuring the terms of any guarantee unless they first consult with Treasury. Just as with current law, the Act also prohibits the subordination of U.S. taxpayer dollars to any other investors.
To offer taxpayers further protection against subordination, Rep. Michael Burgess (R-TX) successfully attached an amendment to the draft legislation that would subject senior federal employees and federal appointees to remedial action, including suspension without pay and removal, for violations of any requirements of the Title XVII loan guarantee program.

California investment guru John Doerr, for example, has personally contributed more than $170,000 to Democratic campaigns and committees since 2008, and more than $2 million over the past 20 years. His investment firm, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers (KPCB), which lists former Vice President Al Gore as a partner, has given more than $1 million to Democrats since 2005.
An early and outspoken advocate for federal investment in “green” technology, Doerr was named to the president’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board in 2009, where he helped craft the $787 billion stimulus package. Of the 27 companies list in KPCB’s “green-tech” portfolio, 16 received some form of taxpayer support.

A frequent guest at White House events and state dinners, Westley served as California co-chair and a National Finance Committee member of Obama’s 2008 campaign and currently sits on the DOE’s Energy Advisory Board.
He has bundled at least $700,000 in campaign donations for Obama since 2008 and personally given about $260,000 to Democratic campaigns and committees since 2007.
Westly’s investment firm, the Westly Group, had a financial stake in four green energy companies that received more than half a billion dollars in federal funding in 2009. The group’s website once touted the firm as being “uniquely positioned” to take advantage of the influx of taxpayer funding in green technology, and currently notes that “To win in the clean technology space, a company must navigate the halls of government.”

One of the companies Obama “liked” was the Exelon Corporation, a Chicago-based utility and recipient of hundreds of millions of dollars in stimulus funding. One of the most politically connected firms in the country, Exelon employees have made up one of President Obama’s top sources of campaign contributions throughout his career.
Exelon was Obama’s fourth-largest campaign donor when he ran for Senate in 2004, contributing more than $73,000, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. The firm donated $326,000 to Obama’s presidential campaign in 2008. The firm has ties to several top Obama bundlers, as well as to Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod and former White House chief of staff and current Chicago mayor Rahm Emmanuel.

Actress Kate Walsh Urges Donations to Planned Parenthood Abortion Biz

Anyone who makes a donation is entered to win a prize from the actress.
In a message sent to her followers on twitter today, Walsh wrote Thursday night, “Tw’eethearts, ‘Tis the season. Donate to Planned Parenthood for a chance to win an autographed Private Practice DVD set – from [yours truly].”
“Donate to Planned Parenthood here for a chance to win an autographed Private Practice DVD,” Walsh said in a follow up tweet sent today, again urging donations to the abortion business.
Fan sites and followers of Walsh on Twitter, including Planned Parenthood, have re-tweeted the post and added to Walsh’s appeal for funds for the abortion business that has been caught on video lying to women about abortion and exploiting teenagers who have been sexually abused.
Walsh is no stranger to promoting Planned Parenthood and abortion.
Walsh, a member of Planned Parenthood’s Board of Advisors, hosted a Congressional forum in 2008 that the abortion business promoted. During the panel, Walsh advocated cutting out all government funding for abstinence education, which drew condemnation from Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council.
“Contrary to what Walsh and her liberal friends believe, doing away with abstinence education won’t lower teen pregnancy rates,” Perkins said in an email about the event. “Instead it would squelch one of the most effective methods of reducing teen sexual risk.”
On the CBS “Early Show,” co-host Julie Chen asked Walsh about why she opposes abstinence education.
“Abstinence is one — abstinence is one aspect of sex education, but it is not the complete aspect. And to expect, I think, everybody to remain abstinent is just — it’s like asking them not to grow. It’s like we don’t ask people to not try out for sports,’ Walsh claimed.
Walsh is but one of many Hollywood stars to encourage people to donate to the abortion business or support their agenda.
Earlier this year, four actors from the acclaimed television series Law and Order: Criminal Intentrecorded a video endorsing the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood. They specifically endorse its efforts to force Americans to pay for abortions in a government-run health care plan.
Actors Eric Bogosian, Vincent D’Onofrio, Kathryn Erbe, and Julianne Nicholson lend their faces, voices and names to the pro-abortion effort and specifically endorsed taxpayer funding of abortions and abortion coverage in health care insurance.
Last year, Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon, who plays Miranda on the popular television program and movies, stumped for donations on Mother’s Day. Her letter to Planned Parenthood donors followed one from children’s author Judy Blume.
The Blume letter sparked so much national outrage after LifeNews.com exposed it, that Planned Parenthood begged its supporters to send thank you notes to her.

DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has bundled at least $500,000 for Obama’s reelection campaign, and is the largest contributor to Priorities USA, the Obama-allied Super PAC.

The inspector general’s investigation into the Department of Justice’s role in Operation Fast and Furious was not expected to be a blockbuster report. The primary interest in the document for members of the media, investigators, and the public alike was how Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz would choose to participate in a cover-up.
Horowitz did not disappoint. The six-part, 471-page report dedicated an entire chapter to Operation Wide Receiver, a program that began in 2006 and did not terminate until mid-2009.
Wide Receiver was an ATF operation started by local agents during the Bush administration which allowed hundreds of weapons to “walk” into Mexico. During congressional hearings, House Oversight Committee Democrats pounded a “Bush did it too” theme — attempting to excuse the Obama administration for Fast and Furious because a similar operation took place in Arizona prior to Obama taking office.
But what precisely did the inspector general’s report say about the practice of gunwalking during Operation Wide Receiver, and does it actually support what Democrats and the media have claimed?
The first thing established by Horowitz is that the OIG’s report was by no means a “finished” report or the final word on either Wide Receiver or Fast and Furious. It did not compel those most closely linked to possible corrupt behavior to testify, something that only a much-needed criminal investigation by an independent prosecutor could provide.
Key personnel involved in both cases flatly refused to talk to the inspector general (a significant detail most reporting on the story to date has overlooked). Charles Higman was the Resident Agent in Charge (RAC) in the ATF Tucson office during Operation Wide Receiver and had direct management responsibility. Wide Receiver was “his” case, and he flatly refused to respond to the OIJ’s repeated requests for interviews.
Operation Wide Receiver started in early 2006, when a Federal Firearms License (FFL) holder contacted the ATF about a purchaser that had bought six AR15 lower receivers (the individual part that is legally the gun) at a gun show, and wanted to purchase 20 more. The FFL suspected the purchaser, an 18-year-old, was a straw purchaser. The ATF formally opened an investigation on March 2, 2006, after interviewing the FFL.
Agents then “lost” the first batch of 20 guns on March 20 when they were given the slip by a smuggler.
By March 28, the straw purchaser was recorded making arrangements to buy more lower receivers, and stated that the lower receivers were being illegally converted into fully automatic weapons. The ATF refused to arrest the straw purchaser at the time, hoping the illegal gunsmith could also be busted.
RAC Higman then sent an email explicitly calling for 50 lower receivers to be walked on March 30:
The bandits have put a $ deposit toward buying 50 this Sat., and intend on 50 more in the next week or two. We have verified 26 to date; the USAO is on board. We are looking to let these 50 walk while identifying the location/subject who is doing the conversions with an eye to doing Search/Arrest warrant the next go ‘round.
Higman’s email was the first explicit, documented mention in the IG report noting an intention of facilitating weapons smuggling to Mexican drug cartels in hopes of catching “bigger fish.”
Despite Higman’s claim in his email, the U.S. Attorney’s Office was all but left out of the investigation to this point, and remained so even as the ring of suspects grew. One suspect indicated a desire to buy “short” AR15 upper receivers, which can only legally be used to mate with registered “pistol” AR15 lowers. Creating a short barreled rifle (SBR) by combining an AR15 rifle lower and pistol upper is a major federal felony violation of the National Firearms Act, and due to the long-recognized theory of “constructive possession,” merely owning the pistol length upper and a rifle lower is grounds for a lengthy prison sentence. Once again, the responsible Assistant U.S. Attorney’s Office was unresponsive, and the Tucson ATF declined to pursue an arrest, and let more guns walk.
SAC Bill Newell of the ATF Phoenix office was collaborating with Higman by this point, and approved of the tactics of letting guns walk. Newell later became a central figure in the Fast and Furious gunwalking plot.
It was only months later, in an operation with a separate group of suspects and dubbed “Wide Receiver II,” that ATF Tucson agents attempted to finally coordinate with Mexican authorities. They proved to be as inept as the ATF agents and U.S. Attorney’s Office.
The gunwalking of Operation Wide Receiver finally ended in August of 2009. The report is curiously vague as to why the operation ended the way it did, suggesting it dried up naturally. This bears more scrutiny.
Of the 474 firearms purchased during Operation Wide Receiver, ATF Tucson let 410 of them “walk.”
The OIG report shows definitively that Wide Receiver was an ATF Tucson operation, with limited involvement of ATF Phoenix and barely competent involvement by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Phoenix.
It further established that the tactics of Operation Wide Receiver never came to the attention of senior DOJ officials during the Bush administration, and only came to the attention of senior Justice officials under the Obama administration. Even though the same individuals that ran Wide Receiver also launched Fast and Furious using similar tactics, Obama’s DOJ failed to provide oversight.
It was late 2009 or early 2010 before DOJ began pursuing criminal indictments, and it was at this time, under the Obama administration, that the first hints of a pending coverup were noted in the OIJ report:
Both prosecution memos detailed the number of firearms purchased and the evidence against each defendant, including information from real-time recordings made of the transactions between the FFL and the subjects, and both noted, “[T]here are many things about this case that could be embarrassing to ATF,” including the fact that that guns “were sold and not accounted for” and likely “are in Mexico killing people.”
By April 12, 2010, the Obama Department of Justice’s clear interest was in avoiding embarrassment more than seeking prosecutions. Jason Weinstein, who later makes an appearance as the Obama administration fall guy for the scandal, sent an email indicating the DOJ was in damage control mode:
Been thinking more about “Wide Receiver I.” ATF HQ should/will be embarrassed that they let this many guns walk — I’m stunned, based on what we’ve had to do to make sure not even a single operable weapon walked in UC operations I’ve been involved in planning — and there will be press about that. In addition, this diary that casts aspersions on one of the agents is a challenge for the case but also something that is likely to embarrass ATF publicly. For those reasons, I think we need to make sure we go over these issues with our front office and with Billy Hoover before we charge the case. Of course we should still go forward, but we owe it to ATF HQ to preview these issues before anything gets filed.
Far from being an indictment of the Bush administration as Democrats and the media have claimed (due in no small part to the conspiratorial relationship between DOJ spokesperson Tracy Schmaler and left-wing Media Matters), the inspector general’s investigation into Operation Wide Receiver shows conclusively that Wide Reciever was localized, compartmentalized, and all but rogue during the Bush era, with no involvement by DOJ officials and only limited local contact with U.S. attorneys.
If anything, what the OIG report shows us during the later stages of Operation Wide Receiver, when it was finally brought to the attention of Eric Holder’s Justice Department, is that the key interest of the Department was damage control — covering up the hundreds of weapons walked and the resulting murders committed with ATF-walked guns.
Tellingly, at no point do the agents on the ground in Tucson or Phoenix, in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, or in the Obama Justice Department seem to have more than a cursory interest in the lives they’ve endangered and ends lost as a result of letting more than 400 weapons reach Mexican cartels through Operation Wide Receiver.
There needs to be significant additional investigation into Operation Wide Receiver apart from Operation Fast and Furious, including a criminal investigation by an independent prosecutor. OIG Horowitz’s report barely scratches the surface.
