OGLETHORPE COUNTY, Ga. - Georgia Congressman Paul Broun (R - 10th District) has issued a statement after one of his constituents asked him "Who's going to shoot Obama?" during a town hall meeting.
Broun was taking questions Tuesday night at a town hall meeting in Oglethorpe County. During that meeting, an elderly man posed the question about shooting the President to Broun, the Congressman's office said Friday.
"I was stunned by the question and chose not to dignify it with a response; therefore at that moment I moved on to the next person with a question," Broun said in a news release issued Friday morning.
Congressman Broun's office reported the incident to authorities, the news release said.
Friday the United States Secret Service said they interviewed the man who allegedly asked the question about shooting the President. "We've taken appropriate investigative steps. At this point we consider the matter closed," Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan told CNN.
"I condemn all incidents - made in sincerity or jest - that threaten or suggest the use of violence against the President of the United States or any other public official," Broun said in the release. "Such rhetoric cannot and will not be tolerated.
The incident gained traction on major political blogs across the country from The Athens Banner Herald's initial report. Political blogger Blake Aued reported, "We couldn't hear the question in the back of the packed Oglethorpe County Commission chamber, but whatever it was, it got a big laugh."
Politico wondered on its website, "the Republican didn't come anywhere near condemning the question in his response."
Broun's campaign told 11Alive that the Congressman decided not to acknowledge the question, and decided to move on.

- I'm sorry Sahar... unfortunately, we live in a world full of people longing to know Christ, and while our desire for us to know Him prevails in restraining our anger, this is not so developed among those who are of the flesh. While I pray against the struggle of ugliness in our world, many people look at $9 trillion spent and no jobs as the biggest heist occurring to American people, and we must be careful as leaders to acknowledge anger and deal with it as leaders in a peaceful way... Impeachment does not necessarily have to be a violent act, but we've asked Obama already to step down.
