WASHINGTON – A 21-year-old man charged with firing a semiautomatic rifle at the White House last week called President Obama "the anti-Christ" and told federal agents he wanted to hurt the president, according to court documents released Thursday.

Oscar Ortega-Hernandez, 21, said he understood he would be moved to Washington, D.C., to face the charges.
Oscar Ramiro Ortega-Hernandez of Idaho Falls, Idaho, was formally charged with attempting to assassinate Obama or members of his staff.
Ortega made his first court appearance before a federal magistrate in Pittsburgh, one day after he was arrested at a western Pennsylvania hotel. He will be taken from the federal court in Pittsburgh to face the charges in Washington.
A person in Idaho who knows him told federal agents that Ortega had become agitated against the federal government and was convinced there was a government conspiracy against him, FBI Agent Chris Ormerod said in an affidavit filed in federal court. The witness told agents Ortega wanted to "hurt" Obama and referred to him as "the anti-Christ." Another witness told investigators Ortega said he "needed to kill" Obama, Ormerod said.
A third witness, who has known Ortega for more than six years, said Ortega owns an assault weapon with a scope, Ormerod said in the affidavit. Ortega blamed Obama for problems with the federal government and believed Obama is the devil, the witness told federal agents.
If convicted, Ortega could face life in prison. He remains in federal custody until a magistrate in Washington can determine whether he should remain jailed until his trial on the charge.
Ortega sat quietly as the hearing began, his hands free but his feet shackled, the Associated Press reported. He said only "Yes, ma'am" when asked whether he understood that he would be going back to Washington to face the charge.
Law enforcement agents have been investigating whether Ortega — accused of firing at least two bullets at the White House on Friday, one of them cracking a window of the first family's living quarters — acted out of hatred for Obama.
President Obama, who is on a trip to the Asia-Pacific region, was not at the White House at the time of the shooting.
A witness said she saw a person in a dark-colored sedan stop in front of the Ellipse in front of the White House lawn and shoot through the passenger side window in the direction of the White House, according to the affidavit. The woman told police the sedan sped away from the area.
Park Police and the U.S. Secret Service found an abandoned black 1998 Honda Accord with an Idaho license plate near the ramp of the Theodore Roosevelt Bridge, which crosses the Potomac River into Virginia. A witness saw the driver of the car run away, Ormerod said. The car is registered to Ortega, he said.
Police searched the car and found a Romanian Cugir SA semiautomatic assault rifle with a large scope mounted the top of the weapon, Ormerod said. Officers found ammunition, including three magazines loaded with bullets and nine spent shell casings from the bullets. Police also found an aluminum baseball bat, brass knuckles, a sales receipt from a store in Fairfax, Va., and a black hoodie sweatshirt with a Los Angeles Dodgers logo.
Arlington County, Va., police had stopped Ortega earlier that day after a caller reported a suspicious person. Ortega refused to allow the police to search the car, but police, who photographed Ortega, said he was wearing the black hoodie.
FBI investigators found several bullet impact points on the south side of the White House on the second and third stories — the residence of the president and his family. The bullet and bullet fragments are the same type found in Ortega's car, Ormerod said.
The FBI took custody of Ortega's car Thursday afternoon to continue the process of reviewing evidence, said Lindsay Godwin, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Washington field office.
The Secret Service reported that one bullet struck an upstairs window on the south side of the White House — the residential portion of the building — but was stopped by bulletproof glass.
Another bullet struck the exterior of the building, though the service has not said exactly where.
Gunfire was reported at around 9 p.m. Friday near the White House, the Secret Service said. The sound of the shots came from south of the White House, around the intersection of 16th Street and Constitution Avenue, about 700 to 800 yards from the White House.
Ortega has an arrest record in three states but has not been linked to any radical organizations, U.S. Park Police said.
The last White House shooting occurred in 1994, when Francisco Martin Duran began firing a semiautomatic rifle from Pennsylvania Avenue, until bystanders subdued him. Duran is now serving a 40-year prison sentence for that incident.

Confederate history is very important; if we forget history and the lessons it taught us, we are doomed to repeat them. It is particularly important to where I live. For 25yrs., I have lived on the ridge. The Old Confederate Lookout Point is the last place where warning was given for people to flee from Sherman burning Atlanta. The marker tree sits at the highest point of the map for this area, and overlooks the ridge facing North. If you walk to the top of the other ridge, you can see Stone Mountain on a clear winter's day. Before the introduction of high powered bombs, the South was particularly vulnerable to destruction by fires. The flat lands, winds, and woods provided apt fuel for it to spread quickly. Now in modern times, we still keep watch here, our Navy by sea.

Southerners often avoided conflict or being wounded by escaping into the woods, and drew their enemy to the woods to be done in. Many say that if Sherman had not burned Atlanta when he did, that the Civil War would not have been lost. The order was issued on 11/2, and it was carried out 11/15, as generals refused to surrender after having put the entire South through what had already been lost: the Civil War killed many people of all races, and generals believed that it would be better to endure the sting of defeat, as to surrender would surely be to dishonor why they fought in the first place. The marker tree sits just higher than the other ridge, and the other ridge is where you can see Stone Mountain: as the flames and smoke rose from Atlanta, the order was issued for people to flee the South Road to McDonough likely from the very tree where the watchman sat.

History of the Confederate Flag as explained to me by a Navy Serviceman:

This flag has the stars to represent the 13 colonies of the South, the flag that was used by the KKK and other separatist movements did not have the white to outline the the blue X, which symbolizes unity. Any flag that is displayed that lacks the white X for unity, means supremacy rather than unity. Unity in the South, means unity of purpose, or common cause for daily life to be unified in those purposes to work for the good of all. The roles of people were different: Indians were pushed off hunting lands for African people to farm cotton. They could not hunt and fish as well as the Indians, as this was not their native land. European land owners tended to the business that they had with Europe, as they were educated. Everyone tended to their own business and lives, except when there was conflict or dispute over resources.

Had it not been for the Cherokee removal and Trail of Tears to Oklahoma, the South would not have become agricultural centers of cotton. Some say this removal of the Cherokee is what caused the loss of life from the Civil War and the farms being taken over by carpet baggers. Indians were simply outgunned by the Europeans, but they joined up with Southerners: when the North challenged the South, the Northerners had the toughest fight, as Southerners fought to save their land and farms from being taken over by the North, Indians fought side-by-side Southerners, making it difficult for General Grant to win on Southern turf. Back then, war was usually measured in body count, and it was hard to tell who won what, as scores of people were decimated as the North pushed as far South as they could. Legend has it that so much blood was shed here, that this is the reason the clay has such a reddish hue to this day.

Southern history has never been one in which the flag stood for oppression: the South viewed industrialization of the North to be unhealthy, a form of economic slavery to government, as it reminded them to that of Europe for which they had fought fervently to avoid in the American Revolution.

The South believed that man was equal in the sight of His Maker, but that in life one had stations and positions that were ordained by God, and the times for which one lived. The South could not understand what all the fuss was about, when the North's manufacturing jobs depended upon the mass production of Southern cotton. The South declared that the North was greedy, because the North did not take care of its factory workers: many were children who lost limbs and were injured in use of machinery, many from being overworked to death. Far from the presentation of most media accounts, life in the South was more akin to indentured servitude in Europe.

My words:
Many Native Americans fought against the North, and so did blacks. Many did not want the modernization of the Industrial Age. It is true, if you visit any Georgia town today, this philosophy prevails: most towns have not modernized since the 50's or 60's. We only had one wave of modernization to that point, and we never tried to compete with the North or the castles they built in the sky. Southerners always felt that change must occur slowly and at the will of the people, or it wasn't worth having, and this includes that the local government serve the will of the people, not its own agenda. The South constructed and edified the churches. The philosophy still exists today that government is not to be larger or more celebrated than God. While there are many roads, Atlanta is the only metropolis. Other areas have built up around Atlanta, as we call it the metro area, and they have urbanized, but even Southerners refer to Atlanta as a concrete jungle.

This common cause for unity and apathy toward big government was reignited in the Tea Party. While we do not wish to return to former times when everyone was not armed, except for times of war when arms were distributed, we do believe in preserving the rights of the people by free speech and exercising those rights. The closest thing we have seen to secession, was the lawsuit over HR 4872, in which over half the United States refused it under the 10th Amendment, Commerce Clause, and various infringements.

Confederate flag

The "Confederate Flag", a rectangular variant of the Battle Flag.
A rectangular variant of the square Confederate Army battle flag (similar to the second naval jack design adopted) was used by a few Army units (today called "The Confederate Flag"). Despite never having historically represented the C.S.A. as a nation, today it has become a widely recognized symbol of the South. It is also known as the "rebel", or "Dixie" flag and is often incorrectly referred to as the "Stars and Bars" (the actual "Stars and Bars" is the First National Flag, which used an entirely different design).[21] The self-declared Confederate enclave of Town Line, New York, lacking a genuine Confederate flag, flew a version of this flag prior to its 1946 vote to rejoin the Union.
[edit]20th century popularity
During the first half of the 20th century the Confederate flag enjoyed renewed popularity. During World War II some U.S. military units with Southern nicknames, or made up largely of Southerners, made the flag their unofficial emblem. The USS Columbia (CL-56) flew a Confederate Navy Ensign as a battle flag throughout combat in the South Pacific in World War II. This was done in honor of Columbia, the ship's namesake and the capital city of South Carolina, the first state to secede from the Union. Some soldiers carried Confederate flags into battle. After the Battle of Okinawa a Confederate flag was raised over Shuri Castle by a Marine from the self-styled "Rebel Company" (Company A of the 1st Battalion, 5th Marines). It was visible for miles and was taken down after three days on the orders of General Simon B. Buckner, Jr. (son of Confederate general Simon Buckner), who stated that it was inappropriate as "Americans from all over are involved in this battle". It was replaced with the flag of the United States.[22] By the end of World War II, the use of the Confederate flag in the military was rare.[23]
[edit]Controversy

[edit]Displaying the flag
The display of the Confederate flag remains a highly controversial and emotional topic, generally because of disagreement over its symbolism.
Supporters of the flag view it as a symbol of southern heritage and the independence of the distinct cultural tradition of the South from Northern government. Some groups use the Southern Cross as one of the symbols associated with their organizations, including racist groups such as the Neo-Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan.[24] The flag is also sometimes used by separatist organizations such as the Aryan Nations. The Aryan Nation also uses the U.S. flag as well as the Christian flag displayed in some Protestant churches.
Due to its ban in some schools and universities that have viewed it as a racist symbol, display of the flag has, in these contexts, also been considered an exercise of free speech.[25]
A peer-reviewed study showed that exposure to the Confederate battle flag results in more negative judgments of black targets and resulted in lowered willingness to vote for Barack Obama among white students at Southern Virginia University. The study concluded that the prevalence of this flag in the South might contribute to a reluctance to vote for a political candidate because of his race.[26]
Some historical societies such as the Sons of Confederate Veterans and the United Daughters of the Confederacy also use the flag as part of their symbols. Some rockabilly fans hold the Confederate flag as their emblem as well.[citation needed] The flag is a regular cultural meme, often appearing in association with a character intended to represent a stereotypical Southerner.
As a result of these varying perceptions, there have been a number of political controversies surrounding the use of the Confederate flag in Southern state flags, at sporting events, at Southern universities, and on public buildings. According to Civil War historian and native Southerner Shelby Foote, the flag traditionally represented the South's resistance to Northern political dominance; it became racially charged during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s, when fighting against desegregation suddenly became the focal point of that resistance.
Symbols of the Confederacy remain a contentious issue across the United States and their civic placement has been debated vigorously in many Southern state legislatures since the 1990s.

FRAMINGHAM - President Obama’s uncle was back in court today as his lawyer declared that he intends to challenge the legality of the traffic stop that resulted in his arrest for drunken driving.
Onyango Obama, waiting for his hearing to begin today. (Ken McGagh/MetroWest Daily News/AP)
P. Scott Bratton, the lawyer representing Onyango Obama, said in an interview that he would file a motion “saying the police had no reason to stop him.” A hearing on the motion to suppress was scheduled for Jan. 12 in Framingham District Court.
Obama, a half-brother of the president’s father, sat silently during the brief hearing. Several people in the packed courtroom could be heard whispering excitedly about the presidential relative in their midst. A young man seated behind Obama, 67, quietly chanted, “Free Obama, free Obama.”
A Framingham resident, Obama was arrested by Framingham police Aug. 24 on charges of operating under the influence of alcohol, failure to yield, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. A breath test taken at the police station showed Obama’s blood alcohol level to be .14, according to a report filed by the Framingham police department.
Bratton declined to elaborate on the grounds upon which he intends to challenge the traffic stop. He will file his motion two weeks before the new court date.
Obama, who was born in Kenya, faces other issues in immigration court. For reasons that are unclear, Obama was ordered deported in 1992 but has remained in the country. Immigration officials have declined to comment on the status of his case, citing privacy laws. But Obama’s attorney in that matter has said Obama will fight deportation.
Obama has continued to work in his job as a clerk at Conti Liquors in Framingham, a short distance from the courthouse.

Late-Term Abortion Business in California Shuts Down

The late-term abortion business in southern California founded by the abortion practitioner who invented the partial-birth abortion procedure has closed down for good.
According to the report:
McMahon further stated that he did 1,200 abortions annually until his death in 1995 from a brain aneurysm. Shortly before his death he was given last rites and a Catholic burial at Holy Cross Cemetery (Field of Martyrs section). A few days before his death McMahon provided key testimony to Sen. Ted Kennedy to read in Congress in support of Partial Birth abortion.
In 1996, McMahon’s wife, Gail, sold Eve Surgical to Dr. Christopher Columbus Dotson, a graduate of Howard University Medical School. In October 1997 Dotson filed articles of incorporation with the California Secretary of State for Eve Surgical Center. On December 2, 1997, the Secretary of State suspended the Eve Surgical corporation.
Like McMahon, Dotson paid no attention and kept the abortion business going. He secretly operated under the name of Youlom Medical Corp. Dotson has lived at an elegant mansion in Beverly Hills. The exclusive property, with luxury amenities, is for sale for $ 9 million. Dotson is currently 80 years old. He has had a total of 63 civil cases filed against him in Los Angeles County Superior Court, including 17 for medical malpractice, one for divorce, and one for paternity.
The medical board disciplined Dotson for causing the death of Ramona Jackson in 1992, but ignored the death of Oriane Shevin in 2005, despite a $1 million settlement in the wrongful death case against Dotson.
More recently, in 2010, Dotson came under fire when he was put in a supervisory role over an abortion practitioner who significant disciplinary issues for hurting women in botched abortions.
As LifeNews reported then:
The California Medical Board admitted it made a mistake when it put a doctor with discipline problems in charge of overseeing an abortion practitioner who then killed a woman in a botched abortion procedure. The board admitted it violated its own rules.
The admission came in relation to their naming Christopher Dotson, a West Los Angeles-based obstetrician-gynecologist who had been placed on administrative probation, to oversee Andrew Rutland.
Rutland surrendered his license in October 2002 after a two-year state investigation that resulted in accusations of negligence, misconduct and incompetence in his treatment of 20 pregnant women, newborns and gynecological patients
He then faced a hearing in front of the California Medical Board at a hearing in San Diego after documents showed Rutland killed a woman during an abortion by administering anesthesia to her and not knowing the proper dosage.
Candis Cohen, the medical board spokeswoman, admitted to the Los Angeles Times that the board violated its own rules requiring doctors who oversee others to have clean disciplinary records.
“This is a staff error that has been fixed,” she said.
The Times indicated Dotson had his own run-in with abortion problems.
In 2007, Dotson and another physician, Josepha Seletz, of Eve Surgical Center, agreed to pay a $1 million settlement when they wrongly gave the mifepristone abortion drug to Oriane Shevin, a mother of two. She was not supposed to get the abortion drug and eventually died when she acquire a fatal infection.
The patient in the case where Rutland killed her despite Dotson’s oversight, Ying Chen, visited Rutland’s San Gabriel facility last July for a second-trimester abortion.
Rutland injected lidocaine, a local anesthetic, in her cervix and the woman began to have an immediate reaction. The abortion practitioner began to perform CPR but the board documents say there was a “significant delay” in him calling 911 for emergency medical help for the woman.
The woman was in cardiac arrest when the ambulance arrived and was taken to a hospital, where she died six days later. An autopsy revealed Rutland gave the woman the wrong dosage of the anesthesia.
The case is pending and the medical board asked Rutland to stop doing abortions until its conclusion.
The Times indicated records showed Dotson wrote favorably of Rutland even after the failed abortion killed the woman.
In a report to the state, the Times says Dotson wrote, “Dr. Rutland and I discussed at length the tragic death of a patient by the name of Ying Chen who after the injection of a local anesthetic preparatory for a pregnancy termination suffered an anaphylactic reaction. In spite of appropriate resuscitation efforts, she succumbed in the hospital.”
But in a written decision, Administrative Law Judge James Ahler said Rutland’s doing the second-trimester abortion in a facility inadequately equipped for emergencies “casts doubt on his professional judgment,” according to the Times.
Judge Ahler said Rutland “presents a risk of danger and there is a likelihood of injury to the public” if he continues practicing medicine and he disagreed with Rutland’s contention that he was not actually performing an abortion at the time.

With the congressional supercommittee tackling the federal debt crisis apparently gridlocked, Senate Chaplain Barry C. Black on Thursday tapped a higher power.
Opening the chamber's session in the morning, he asked for God's blessings on lawmakers, as he usually does — and then asked for the Almighty to shed some providential wisdom particularly on the 12 members of the committee struggling to lower the future debt increases by $1.5 trillion.
"Eradicate false ambition as you make them content to serve you where they are and as they are. In a special way, guide the supercommittee in its challenging work," the chaplain said.

Super Committee Stares Down Deadline

Super committee Co-Chairman Sen. Patty Murray speaks to reporters today. The deficit panel has less than a week to agree on a plan but is deadlocked on taxes and entitlement spending.

RELATED CONTENT
For the still-divided super committee, three-and-a-half months of work have boiled down to three days: The panel likely needs to submit a package to Congress’ budget scorekeeper by Monday to hold its Wednesday final vote.
But at this rate, it’s unclear whether the bicameral, bipartisan group of lawmakers will have anything to vote on, especially something that could garner the seven votes necessary to send a package to the full Congress for approval.
With deadlines hanging like daggers, the group tasked with finding $1.2 trillion in savings over the next 10 years did not appear to be any closer today to an agreement than it was when this critical week started. Democrats and Republicans met multiple times among themselves, but the full committee still has not met behind closed doors since Oct. 31. And the panel’s lawmakers, once tight-lipped and optimistic, are now as vocal as ever in lobbing insults at the other side.
Members said today they will continue to meet throughout the weekend, even as their colleagues go home for Thanksgiving, well aware that the Congressional Budget Office will need a product from them by Monday. But the commitment to meet likely will not be enough to bridge the serious policy gaps remaining between the two parties on taxes and entitlements. The balance of cuts to revenues to reform has doomed every negotiating group preceding the super committee, and it has created what could be an insurmountable block for the current panel, despite open support from Congressional leaders.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) met Tuesday, and Reid especially has kicked up his involvement in the talks. But it’s unclear how involved the leaders are willing to get in the direct negotiations, and time is running out.
“Leadership is involved, definitely is involved,” Senate Majority WhipDick Durbin (D-Ill.) said today. “Harry has met with John Boehner — that’s been reported. And he is really trying to reach out to him to spark closer cooperation. At this moment, I still think they’re struggling to find that. I hope I’m wrong.”
Meanwhile, the panel’s Democrats and Republicans stood by their most recent proposal today. Early last week, Republicans made a $1.2 trillion offer, including $250 billion in tax code reform, in exchange for a permanent extension of the Bush-era tax cuts, extended last winter by President Barack Obama.
Democrats on Friday accepted the basic targets of the GOP plan, with nearly $900 billion in spending reductions and $400 billion in revenues, but added several caveats. They asked that the Medicare retirement age remain the same; that the Bush-era tax cuts not be extended; that the chained Consumer Price Index be taken off the table; and that the panel consider certain provisions in Obama’s jobs package, like extending the payroll tax holiday and unemployment insurance benefits.
The Democratic position appeared to be a non-starter, and it was unclear today whether other plans had been exchanged. Republicans say they’re still waiting for a proposal that takes on serious structural reforms to entitlements.
“Well, we’re trying to figure out whether our Republican colleagues have drawn an absolute line in the sand with respect to their last proposal or whether they’re still willing to negotiate, and we believe we should not give up on negotiation,” Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) said this afternoon. “We’re prepared to look for every option.”
The questions now are whether any option will be acceptable and whether leaders will force their contingents on the panel to take up what they think could clear both chambers.
Earlier today, Boehner told reporters that although he has had his “fair share of meetings” on the deficit talks, “the leaders have a responsibility” to ensure the process is successful.
His early morning optimism, however, was in contrast to the message coming from inside the negotiating room.
Super committee Co-Chairwoman Sen. Patty Murray insisted that Democrats had offered a counterproposal to a GOP plan from last week and that any final deal must be “fair to working families and puts our country back to work — that’s the task that we have at hand.”
“I would hope that [there] is a way for [Republicans] to understand that they need to compromise, too, and come back to us and reach a deal, which is critically important today. But I think the challenge is that they have to resolve the differences on their side on revenue. And that’s what we’re waiting for,” the Washington Democrat added. “Once they resolve that and are willing to compromise as we have, then we can reach a deal.”
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi agreed.
“If you refuse to take one red cent from the wealthiest people from our country and the price we have to pay is the diminished strength of the people of our country ... that just isn’t right,” the California Democrat said.
Those comments drew a strong rebuke from Boehner.
“There’s been exactly one proposal on the table, in the committee, and that came from the six Republican members,” he said, dismissing Murray’s counteroffer as merely one from members’ “individual” discussions.
“It is very clear to me there has not been one Democrat position. Not one,” he added.
If the sniping sounds familiar, it should: Over the past 10 months, Congressional leaders have fallen into a predictable pattern during tense policy debates. Whether it was the spring continuing resolution fight, this summer’s debt ceiling battle or the super committee negotiations, Democrats and Republicans have started their work behind closed doors, spending weeks working out deals on areas where the two sides are close.
As discussions move into thornier policy issues, the two sides have tended to step up leaks to the media and complaints about the other side being obstinate. Then, as the negotiations near deadlines, the two sides erupt into all-out partisan warfare.
So far the script appears to be holding firm, with Boehner accusing Democrats and the White House of not giving Republicans a concrete proposal, and Democratic leaders such as Murray charging Republicans with protecting the rich and punishing the elderly and poor.
At some point, someone will likely be accused of walking away.
In previous fights this year, Boehner and Reid have, at the last minute, cobbled together an agreement to avoid failure. But whether the pattern will repeat itself this time is an open question.
“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink,” Boehner said today. “The problem we’ve had all year is getting to yes.”

"Super" budget deadline approaching

Wed, Nov 16 2011
1 of 8. The twelve members of the Congressional Super Committee, six Democrats and six Republicans, gather for opening remarks as the panel holds its inaugural meeting to search for at least $1.2 trillion in new deficit reductions, in Washington, DC, September 8, 2011.

WASHINGTON | Thu Nov 17, 2011 8:40pm EST
(Reuters) - Members of a Congress deficit-reduction committee considered scaling back their efforts on Thursday amid a Republican split over taxes and mounting doubts of reaching a deal by next week's deadline.

The 12-member "super committee" has until midnight on Wednesday, the day before the Thanksgiving holiday, to reach a deal to cut deficits by at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years.
"I feel we're caught in a tailspin," said a senior aide familiar with stalled talks.
Voicing the sentiment of many on Capitol Hill, another aide said: "It doesn't look particularly promising. But this is a place that works deadline to deadline. We shall see."
If the super committee is unable to come up with a deficit-reduction plan, automatic spending cuts would kick in across federal agencies, beginning in January 2013, two months after next year's election.
The prospect of automatic spending cuts was on the mind of Republican Senator Patrick Toomey, a super committee member.
Interviewed on CNBC, Toomey said Republicans could wage a "very concerted effort to reconfigure" the reductions.
Republicans likely would try to spare military programs from at least some of the cuts. But a week ago, President Barack Obama warned against turning off any of the automatic cuts that would be triggered if the super committee fails.
Failure to get a deal would likely anger voters who have been rattled by budget fights this year that brought the government to the edge of a shutdown and the brink of default.
Congress's approval rating stands at record low levels, and lawmakers are eager to prove that they are capable of governing as they head into the 2012 election season.
At the same time, any deal is likely to challenge orthodoxies on the left and the right.
Democrats have campaigned for decades on a promise to protect health and pension benefits, while nearly every Republican in Congress has vowed to oppose tax increases.
With so much distance between themselves on taxes and spending cuts, the full "super committee" hasn't met in weeks.
POSSIBLE PLAN B
But panel members have held a number of smaller talks among themselves and with party leaders.
A senior aide said some committee members were meeting just to discuss whether a broad deal is possible at this late hour.
If they conclude that it is not, talks may enter a new phase - one that takes taxes and benefit programs off the negotiating table and puts together a much smaller package containing measures both sides easily can agree upon.
These could include moves such as more aggressive government sales of the right to use radio and television frequencies and cutting federal pensions and some agriculture subsidies.
The goal would be to limit the severity of automatic spending cuts that would begin in 2013, with half hitting domestic programs and the other half hitting defense spending. If the panel comes up with a plan that does not reach $1.2 trillion, the automatic cuts would kick in for the remaining amount.
Underscoring the difficulties ahead for the super committee, 72 members of the Republicans' conservative wing sent a letter to the 12-member panel stating that they would oppose any tax hike to help close budget gaps that have topped $1 trillion in each of the past three years.
"Increasing taxes on Americans would destroy jobs, erase all hope of an economic recovery, and simply serve to feed out-of-control spending in Washington," the Republican lawmakers wrote.
Republicans on the panel have floated a plan that would raise about $300 billion in taxes over 10 years, in a softening of the firm anti-tax stance they have taken in other budget battles this year.
Polls show most Americans do not expect the panel to get a deal, and that more would blame Republicans, whose party has consistently shown resistance to tax hikes.
Democrats say they will not back a plan that consists of spending cuts alone, and their latest proposal would raise the government's 10-year tax haul by about $400 billion.
A Democratic aide familiar with the negotiations told Reuters that unless Republicans come up with a counter-offer to the Democrats' latest proposal, "We are at a standstill."
Taxes are not the only issue. Republicans want to overhaul health and retirement benefit programs, while Democrats want to roll in measures to boost the ailing economy.
Democrats say they cannot go any further on spending cuts until they know where Republicans stand on taxes.
"I believe we have opened the door to negotiations in these last final hours," Senator Patty Murray said after meeting with fellow Democratic super committee members.
"But if they can come to an agreement on their side on revenue, then we will be able to move forward," the panel co-chair said.

Who’s afraid of Tea Party’s federal debt solutions? Dirty Harry and his henchmen

*

By Michelle Malkin  •  November 17, 2011 02:36 PM
What are Dirty Harry and his Democratic henchmen so afraid of? Simple: Concrete solutions to kick-the-can-down-the-road fecklessness.
FreedomWorks explains:
Senate Rules Committee staff on Thursday removed microphones and locked the doors of a hearing room in the Russell Senate Office Building where an informal hearing was scheduled to review the findings of the Tea Party Debt Commission, a months-long crowd-sourced effort to develop a budget proposal that balances the budget, reduces the debt and gets America’s fiscal house back in order
“The Senate hasn’t been able to pass a budget resolution three years running. They have been unable to do their job, and now the Rules Committee is trying to prevent the American people from doing it for them,” said Matt Kibbe, president of FreedomWorks .
“The Senate has refused to let the American people know what the highly secretive budget ‘Super Committee’ is doing behind closed doors,” Kibbe added. “We’ve come to Washington with the real solutions developed by the American people, and the Rules Committee won’t let their voices be heard in an open forum. It’s outrageous. They’re kicking us out of our own building because they’re afraid we are going to do something crazy like balance the budget.”
The hearing was scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. in Hearing Room 325 of the Russell Senate Office Building, one of three senate office buildings across Constitution Avenue from the U.S. Capitol. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) sponsored the hearing so lawmakers and the public would have an opportunity to hear the findings of the Tea Party Debt Commission (TPDC). The commission of 12 volunteer tea party activists developed its report based on the results of a crowd-sourced online poll completed by nearly 50,000 Americans and field hearings held around the country in recent months
Sen. Lee is leading the tea party members to the Hillsdale College Kirby Center (227 Massachusetts Ave., NE Washington, D.C. 20002), where the meeting will continue.
You can download the PDF of the volunteer panel’s report here.
Intro:
[W]e offer a bold — but, we believe, feasible — plan that:
“Cuts, caps, and balances” federal spending.
Balances the budget in four years, and keeps it balanced, without tax hikes.
Closes an historically large budget gap, equal to almost one-tenth of our economy.
Reduces federal spending by $9.7 trillion over the next 10 years, as opposed to the President’splan to
increase spending by $2.3 trillion.
Shrinks the federal government from 24 percent of GDP — a level exceed only in World War II —to about 17.5 percent, in line with the postwar norm.
Stops the growth of the debt, and begins paying it down, with a goal of eliminating it within this generation. To achieve these goals, our plan, among other things:
Repeals ObamaCare in toto.
Eliminates four Cabinet agencies — Energy, Education, Commerce, and HUD — and reduces orprivatizes many others, including EPA, TSA, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac.
Ends farm subsidies, student loans, and foreign aid to countries that don’t support us — luxuries we can no longer afford.
Saves Social Security and greatly improves future benefits by shifting ownership and control from government to individuals, through new SMART Accounts.
Gives Medicare seniors the right to opt into the Congressional health care plan.
Suspends pension contributions and COLAs for Members of Congress, whenever the budget is in deficit. In short, the Tea Party Budget enables us to end chronic deficits and pay down debt, while moving us back toward the kind of limited, constitutional government intended by our Founding Fathers. And it does all this without raising taxes. In fact, we make the so-called Bush tax cuts, and other expiring tax relief provisions, permanent. With these reforms, we can unburden the productive sector and get back to robust economic growth and rising living standards for all. With this plan, everyone benefits.
More:
“This is not your father’s debt proposal,” commented Dean Clancy. “This is the only existing debt reduction proposal generated over just four months using cutting edge crowd-sourcing technology, and that cuts $9.7 trillion without raising taxes. While the super-committee is struggling to write a single proposal behind closed doors, we are here today to present a bold but practical plan supported by a coalition of hundreds of thousands of grassroots activists from across the country.”
…Among the members attending were RSC Chairman Jim Jordan (OH-4), Senator Mike Lee (UT), Senator Rand Paul (KY), Congressman Jeff Flake (AZ-6), Congressman Paul Broun (GA-10), Congressman Joe Walsh (IL-8), Congressman Michael Burgess (TX-26), Congressman Steve King (IA-5), Congressman Mick Mulvaney (SC-5) and Congressman Raul Labrador (ID-1).

House GOP to Pass Bill Keeping Pledge to Cut Spending, Eliminate Wasteful Programs
Posted by Katie Boyd on November 17, 2011
This week, House Republicans will continue keeping their pledge to stop the spending binge and reduce the size of government by passing a measure (H.R. 2112) that decreases spending for several government agencies by $7 billion from last year, and represents a savings of $98 billion compared to the President’s request.  According to an Appropriations Committee summary, the measure also fulfills Republicans’ pledge to “root out government waste” and sunset “costly and duplicative programs,” saving taxpayers more than $450 million by eliminating 20 wasteful programs, including:
Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies
  • New era/rural technology - $1 M
  • Microbiological data program - $4.2 M
  • Healthy Food Financing Initiative - $35 M
  • Subsidized Guaranteed Farm Loans - $17 M
  • Rural Microenterprise Investment Program - $6 M
  • 12 Federal Agricultural Research Laboratories at 10 Locations - $38 M

Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies
  • EDA Sustainable Economic Development/Global Climate Change - $16.5 M
  • NTIA Public Telecommunications Facilities, Planning and Construction - $ 1M
  • NIST Technology Innovation Program - $44.8M
  • NIST Baldrige Performance Excellence Program - $9.6M
  • NOAA Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning - $1.5M
  • DOJ National Drug Intelligence Center - $34M
  • DEA Mobile Enforcement Teams Program - $40M
  • Community-Based Violence Prevention Initiative - $8.3M
  • COPS Technology - $1.2M
  • NSF Graduate STEM Fellowships in K-12 Education - $26M
  • NSF Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory - $12M
  • NSF National STEM Education Distributed Learning - $10M

Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Agencies
  • TIGGER Grants (FTA) - $50M
  • Sustainable Communities Grants (HUD) - $100M

This week’s funding measure follows on the progress made earlier this year when House Republicans passed legislation that eliminated more than 40 wasteful programs in the Department of Education alone, and cut or eliminated hundreds more (see full list here).
Republicans are focused on removing barriers to economic growth and private-sector job creation (see: Plan for America’s Job Creators), including the threat of higher taxes stemming from Washington Democrats’ out-of-control spending binge.  A statement signed earlier this year by 150 economists and sent to the White House by House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) reiterated that “to support real economic growth and support the creation of private-sector jobs, immediate action is needed to rein in federal spending.”
With the debt now topping an astronomical $15 trillion, it is critical for Democrats to stop insisting on more ‘failed’ stimulus spending and start working with Republicans on solutions that will put America on a more sustainable fiscal path.  A good first step would be passing the House’s pro-growth Path to Prosperity budget, and supporting the Balanced Budget Amendment the House will pass this week.  If Senate Democrats continue blocking the House-passed budget, they owe it to Americans to put forth a plan of their own.  They have, after all, had more than 900 days to come up with one.  “We can’t wait” to hear what they have to offer.

Pakistan Ambassador to U.S. Offers to Resign

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Pakistan's ambassador to Washington has offered to resign after reports that his boss, President Asif Ali Zardari, asked Washington for help to stave off a military takeover.

A Pakistani businessman alleged in a column in the Financial Times last month that a senior Pakistani diplomat asked for assistance in getting a message from Zardari to Admiral Mike Mullen, at the time chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The author, Mansoor Ijaz, alleged that Zardari feared a military takeover following the U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden in Pakistan in May and brought unprecedented public scrutiny on Pakistani leaders.
Events in the months following the bin Laden raid have underscored the sharp tensions between Pakistan's weak civilian government, headed by Zardari, and its military leadership, headed by General Ashfaq Kayani.
"I serve at the pleasure of the president of Pakistan and the prime minster of Pakistan. And I have communicated my willingness to resign or participate in any inquiry that brings to an end the vilification against the democratic government of Pakistan currently being undertaken by some elements in the country," said Husain Haqqani, a former journalist who has been Pakistan's ambassador to Washington since 2008.
There has been speculation in the Pakistani media that Haqqani had been involved in the conception or communicating of the memo.
Officials in the Pakistani government were not immediately available to say whether Haqqani's offer had been accepted.
"I have not been named so far as having done anything wrong by anyone except through innuendo. No memo of the kind being discussed in the media was drafted or delivered by me," Haqqani said.
"I should like to add that since I was appointed ambassador in 2008, some people have consistently vilified me as having been involved in undermining the Pakistani armed forces. Which I have never done."
Asked about the memo referred to in the Financial Times column, Captain John Kirby, who was Mullen's spokesman until the admiral stepped down earlier this year, said Mullen initially had no recollection of such a memo but was later able to track it down.
"Neither the contents of the memo nor the proof of its existence altered or affected in any way the manner in which Adm. Mullen conducted himself in his relationship with Gen. Kayani and the Pakistani government," Kirby said. "He did not find it at all credible and took no note of it."
He gave no further details.

House GOP to Scrap “Wasteful,” “Duplicative” “Drug War Boondoggle”
Posted by Don Seymour on November 17, 2011
In the Pledge to America, Republicans promised to “curb Washington’s spending habits” and fundamentally change the way Congress spends taxpayer dollars. That’s why one of the first things Republicans did after the American people entrusted them with a majority in the House was impose a ban on earmarks, the taxpayer-funded projects slipped into legislation without scrutiny or debate.
Now the House will save taxpayers tens of millions of dollars by eliminating funding for one of Washington’s most notorious pet projects: the National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC).
Long fueled by secretive earmarks, the NDIC has remained open for years despite the fact that the Office of the Director of National Intelligence “recommended that the NDIC … be closed for poor performance.”
A Congressional oversight panel  determined it “was never able to fulfill its original mission of centralizing and coordinating drug intelligence, given its remote location and the unwillingness of the other Federal agencies to contribute significant information.” One former DEA agent with NDIC even admitted to US News:we had to actually search for a mission.”
The agency – once the subject of a CNN segment on pork-barrel spending – has been called everything from “wasteful and unnecessary” to “duplicative and vague” to a “drug war boondoggle.” And while Republicans and previous administrations have tried eliminating NDIC and consolidating its mission with other centers, millions of taxpayer dollars continued pouring into the agency. Until now.
Eliminating this program will save taxpayers approximately $34 million, and it’s only one of twenty wasteful spending programs on the chopping block this week. Learn more about the rest of them here.

17 minutes ago Congress passes continuing resolution, avoids another shutdown threat
Posted by
CNN Congressional Producer Matt Hoye
Washington, D.C. (CNN) - Congress passed a temporary spending measure on Thursday that will keep the federal government funded and open for business until December 16. The continuing resolution was necessary because the federal government is set to run out of money by midnight Friday.
The House passed the measure by a vote of 298-121 Thursday afternoon, and the Senate followed suit Thursday evening, passing the measure 70-30.

The measure was passed as part of a larger spending bill for a number of government agencies for fiscal 2012 - including the Agriculture Department, the Food and Drug Administration, the Transportation Department and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, among others.
Overall spending levels in the new measure conform to the outlines of an agreement reached in Congress earlier this year.
The previous continuing resolution was enacted October 5 as part of a deal providing an additional $2.65 billion in disaster relief needed in the wake of Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee and a series of tornadoes and wildfires.
In addition to early October, partial government shutdowns were also threatened during budget talks in the spring and the debt ceiling debate over the summer.
The short-term funding measures are necessary because Congress has failed to complete its full budget appropriations process, which has become a victim of sharp partisan divisions over spending priorities.
The last extension was intended to provide more time to debate and pass spending measures covering the remainder of fiscal year 2012. It's been over 15 years, however, since both chambers of Congress passed the full range of such bills.
Instead, Congress has relied on other ways to extend spending authority, such as continuing resolutions or so-called "omnibus" measures that bundle together multiple appropriations bills.

Congress OKs bill averting government shutdown

By ALAN FRAM, Associated Press
WASHINGTON — A weekend government shutdown that neither party wanted was averted when Congress approved a compromise spending bill Thursday, as leaders overcame major defections by Republicans angry over what they considered excessive spending. To the dismay of liberals, the measure also blocks Obama administration plans to impose stricter nutrition standards on school lunches.
The Senate sent the measure to President Barack Obama for his signature on a 70-30 vote, shortly after the House consented to the bill 298-121.
Though passage was by comfortable margins, the vote in both chambers highlighted GOP fissures over federal spending. House Republicans backed the legislation by just 133-101, while GOP senators voted heavily against the bipartisan bill, 30-17.
Many conservatives also were unhappy that the bill potentially would leave taxpayers on the hook for even more spending because it would expand the size of mortgages that could be insured by the Federal Housing Administration in wealthy areas from $625,500 to $729,750.
"Some say, 'Oh, the tea party, you shouldn't listen to them, they were angry people,'" Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said. "Well, I think they were deeply frustrated people and, yes, somewhat angry. Why shouldn't they be?"
The votes occurred against a backdrop of partisan gridlock among members of Congress' supercommittee, which has less than a week to try agreeing to a debt-reduction plan. Some Republicans on that panel have been pushing to include some tax increases as part of a deal, and that has upset some Republicans adamant against abandoning the party's core stance against boosting levies.
Democrats supported the measure overwhelmingly, with only 20 in the House and none in the Senate voting "no." Liberals mocked a provision blocking Obama administration efforts to prod schools to put healthier foods on their lunch menus, including a proposal to no longer consider the tomato paste on pizza to be a vegetable.
"What's next? Are Twinkies going to be considered a vegetable?" said Rep. Jared Polis, D-Colo., who voted against passage.
Despite the objections, passage was never in real doubt. Both parties were eager to avoid further tarnishing Congress' ghastly public image, which took a beating after partisan standoffs nearly caused a government shutdown this past spring and a federal default in the summer.
"It's a good bill. It's not perfect but it's a lot better than the alternative," said Rep. Norm Dicks of Washington, top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee.
The government's new fiscal year started Oct. 1 without enactment of any yearlong spending bills. A temporary measure that has been financing federal agencies expires after midnight Friday.
The legislation would keep the government's doors open through Dec. 16, giving lawmakers more time to catch up on their tardy budget work. It would also provide $182 billion to finance the departments of Housing and Urban Development, Transportation, Agriculture, Commerce and Justice, and many smaller agencies through the rest of the government's budget year.
Supporters said the bill honors a summer compromise between Obama and Republicans to limit overall spending on federal agencies to just over $1 trillion, $7 billion less than last year.
"This bill is the next step in breaking the status quo of excessive federal spending that is throwing our budgets out of whack," said Rep. Harold Rogers, R-Ky., chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.
To try winning over skeptics, GOP leaders told their rank-and-file that the bill would eliminate 20 federal programs. All were relatively small, including a $35 million Agriculture Department healthy food initiative and a $12 million National Science Foundation underground science lab.
They also noted that the bill provided none of the $8 billion Obama requested for building high-speed rail lines and none of the $322 million the president sought to establish a climate change office in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Obama's request for an additional $308 million for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, which is responsible for implementing much of last year's financial law, was cut to $205 million. Reductions were also included for NASA.
Democrats boasted that unlike an earlier House-passed version, the compromise bill lacked GOP language blocking enforcement of parts of last year's law overhauling the regulation of financial markets and preventing the government from regulating the RU-486 birth control pill.
They also said it included more money than Republicans wanted for providing food to poor women, children and older people; helping communities hire police officers; operating federal prisons; financing the National Science Foundation; and highway and transit programs.
The bill also would extend to Dec. 16 the deadline by which the ailing U.S. Postal Service must pay $5.5 billion to the Treasury for future retiree health benefits. Postal officials have warned they have no cash and would default on the annual payment, which was originally due Sept. 30.
The Agriculture Department had proposed improving school lunches by steps like limiting potatoes and salt and promoting whole grains.
The legislation blocked those rules. As a result, the bill would allow the tomato paste typically topping pizzas to be considered a vegetable, a practice the Agriculture Department wanted to curb.
Federally subsidized school meals must contain certain amounts of vegetables, and the proposed rules could have forced schools to remove foods like pizza and french fries from their cafeterias.

Matt Kibbe and others react to the eviction of the Tea Party Debt Commission from the Russell Building

By Tabitha Hale on November 17, 2011
Here is some video of how it all went down.
It has been 932 days since the Democrats have passed a budget. With the formation of the Super Committee, we saw an opportunity for Americans to tell Congress what they would be willing to cut, and offer suggestions to make the budgeting process easier for them. The Senate Rules Committee, headed up by Chuck Schumer, told us they were uncomfortable with the word "hearing", and locked the doors and took away our microphones minutes before the event was scheduled to start.
So basically, they have nearly three years to put a budget forth and fail. We finally act, they kick us out. Senator Mike Lee's office took the lead and quickly found a new location at Hillsdale College's Kirby Center, where the hearing took place not too far behind schedule.
We will be heard, Washington.

Garry TerryI was there today.....it really was an insulting slap in the face to be kicked out the US Senate. Harry Reid doesn't own it. I didn't drive 4 hours to be told I can't sit at a planned meeting at the house of all of the people in America. We all try to get along with those folks as best we can. It's time to realize the truth: If you're a conservative - they hate you. Other than being made to feel like we're scum, it was a very great event with practical solutions for America.

All those percentages that are divided among 9 candidates will be added together against their puppet.

When will the idiots that voted for this Obomination learn that they will do anything to stay in power and dictate how we live our lives? And you thought "1984" was a stretch of the imagination! Wake up America before you see "Brown Shirts" in the streets.

Roger JamesThe only course of action we have at our disposal right now is to put everything we have behind electing Congressman Ron Paul to the presidency. If we don't, I would guarantee that the restoration of America will not be a bloodless proposition. The quickest way to short circuit the web of executive orders and insane laws is to install a man who will not sell-out and pander. And for my fellow conservatives who think Ron Paul would be weak on international defense... Go look at the You Tubes dating back to the 80's when we were all absorbed in Madonna... Ron Paul was predicting and warning America about the very terrorism we have to deal with today as a result of our flawed foreign policy. So not only does Ron Paul understand foreign policy, he would also be the most brutal Commander-in-Chief America has ever seen if he had to go to war. He would get approval from Congress. He would execute and prosecute the war with deadly force and win it. He would NOT stay and rebuild the enemy's country at our expense. He would not fritter America lives away on a 10 year occupation. He would not look to the DOD contractors to make his strategic decisions and line their pockets with and endless flow of cash. America would be feared militarily and respect globally once again.

Solyndra warned W.H. in Oct. '10
By: Darren Samuelsohn
November 3, 2011 06:08 AM EST
Solyndra's top executive strategized with the Obama administration in October 2010 as the California solar company prepared to shut down an older plant and lay off nearly 200 employees, new internal emails released Wednesday show.
CEO and President Brian Harrison flagged the company's bad news to a top DOE loan guarantee official in an Oct. 25, 2010, email. The warning worked its way up the chain of command, ultimately reaching President Barack Obama's top energy and climate adviser, Carol Browner.
"The reason for this note is to make you aware that Solyndra has received some press inquiries about rumors of problems (one of them with quite accurate information) and we have received in-bound calls from potential financial investors," Harrison wrote to Frances Nwachuku, the director of the portfolio management at DOE. "Both of these data points indicate the story is starting to leak outside Solyndra."
"It is our view inside Solyndra that while not desirable from DOE perspective we need to internally announce to employees and with one selected press member on Thursday of this week, October 28," Harrison added. "It is our belief that is better for all parties to get in front of the story and control the messaging rather than get behind the story and on the defensive. So, I would like to go forward with the internal communication on Thursday, October 28. There will be no mention of the DOE."
"Additionally, the meeting with Secretary [Steven] Chu was a very good one. I did not have an opportunity to speak with him privately," Harrison concluded.
Nwachuku forwarded Harrison's email to the head of the DOE loan guarantee program, Jonathan Silver, who then kicked it up to Rod O'Connor, then Chu's chief of staff, and deputy chief of staff Brandon Hurlbut.
A day later, O'Connor sent Harrison’s email to Vice President Joe Biden's chief of staff, Ronald Klain, as well as Browner and her top deputy, Heather Zichal.
"Let me know if you want to discuss," O'Connor wrote.
Browner's reply — "What is the announcement?" — is the first email message from Browner on Solyndra to be made public.
O'Connor then wrote, "Left you a VM on your cell."
Later messages show the Obama officials discussing how Solyndra had delayed its announcement by a week. On Oct. 29, Zichal wrote O'Connor with questions about how to explain Biden's remarks in September 2009 when the vice president spoke via video conference at a groundbreaking ceremony for the company.
"So how do we think this lay off announcement impacts the loan we gave them?" Zichal wrote. "They build the manufacturing facility but it calls into question the longer viability of the company?"
Silver also forwarded around an 11-page DOE slide show on Solyndra, including an explanation of how the company's "financial condition has deteriorated because of intense competition” from Chinese solar manufacturers, limited historical investment in marketing and sales infrastructure and a “relatively higher cost structure compared to peers, a large allocation of cash resources to R&D, and lack of new equity to fund operations during ramp-up period.”
The slide show concludes with a plan in two weeks to “complete due diligence activity with the objective of developing a response to the Solyndra Inc. debt restructuring request.”
DOE also planned to keep tabs on completing Solyndra’s second facility “to ensure the highest recovery possible in the event of the company’s failure to meet the objectives of its Consolidation Plan.”
On Nov. 3, 2010, The New York Times and other media reported that Solyndra was announcing plans to shut its first factory, called Fab 1, to save $60 million in capital expenditures. The company also would lay off about 40 employees and not renew contracts for about 150 temporary workers.

Hey Allen West…Time for Show and Tell

By Craig Andresen on November 17, 2011 at 1:50 pm
*Solyndra and all the emails, subpoenas, hearings and cover ups, Fast and Furious with its memos, emails, who knew what and when along with its subpoenas and testimony, GOP campaign polls changing daily, the whole Occupy Wall Street drama, Penn State and on and on and on…
Distractions.
The real story is the Super Committee and what is happening, or not happening, between 12 members of congress.
With less than a week to go before triggers kick in and drastic cuts are made to Medicare and our Defense Department, there just doesn’t seem to be any movement. Or is there?
Obama and the liberals have been trying to make a living on, and or campaigning against, what they have, for some time now, labeled a “Do Nothing Congress” and therein rests the issue.
Obama has chided and scolded the Republicans in Congress for being a “Do Nothing Congress” and some polls and indicating that more people would blame the Republicans than the Democrats or Obama himself for stalemates from the budget to the debt
Republicans from Ryan to Boehner to you-name-them have been systematically stepping forward to speak about the bills introduced in the House but either stalled or killed by the liberal-controlled Senate. Words are not enough.
It’s high time to put forth a visual display.
We are, whether one likes it or not, a visual society – and more and more, what people see holds more sway then what they hear so my advice to Republicans is to put on a show-and-tell session for the American people and for members of the “Main Stream Media” aka…MSM.
What I would advise members of the House to do and do it soon, no later than this coming Monday, is get busier than a one-armed paper hanger.
Every page.
Set up two tables, one on either side of a podium at one end of the room. Upon one table will be stacks of bills and proposals, the Ryan Budget Plan and all the various debt ceiling bills and proposals along with everything so far proposed by Republicans relating to the Super Committee. On the other table, each and every one of those bills or proposals actually passed by the liberal Senate.
Open the doors and let the MSM into the room and have someone the likes of Allen West standing at the podium to explain to the press exactly at what they are looking. There is a very good reason why I suggest Congressman West and here it comes.
Behind the table on the right, the one with all the stacks of Republican legislation which has been killed or stalled in the liberal
Behind the other table, the one containing all the Republican legislation actually PASSED by the liberal Senate should be a second table, likewise raised slightly with the corresponding X numbers of army men, ships and planes our nation will have AFTER the automatic triggers related to the Super Committee get pulled.
Show and tell.
As a freshman member of Congress, nobody knows, appreciates or understands the vital needs of out national security and our military better than Congressman Allen West and nobody could state the case, outline the ramifications or highlight the facts better than Allen West.
Let THAT become the IMAGE…not the words upon which Obama and other liberals try to run against when they carry on about the republicans being a “Do Nothing Congress.”
Plant THAT image in the American psyche.
Make THAT image be
There is, I believe, another image which must be planted and one which I cannot believe has not been mentioned yet by anyone.
Washington, and for that matter the MSM, loves acronyms.
Remember Obama’s “Winning the Future?”
WTF
Run through the Washington acronym machine and render out all the unnecessary bits and pieces of the alphabet from “Do Nothing Congress” and with what exactly are you left?
DNC
In Washington, words are a dime a dozen.
Image is everything.

Arizona Supreme Court Backs Ousted Redistricting Chairwoman

The Arizona Supreme Court today ruled in favor of the reinstatement of the ousted chairwoman of the state’s Independent Redistricting Commission.
The court order stated that a letter Gov. Jan Brewer (R) wrote to Mathis on Nov. 1 did not demonstrate “substantial neglect of duty, gross misconduct in office, or inability to discharge the duties of office,” which was the legal grounds for the action.
The court heard oral arguments on the case earlier this afternoon in an hourlong hearing.
The Mathis-led commission drafted a proposed redistricting map that enraged national and state Republicans. Soon after, Brewer with the consent of two-thirds of the state Senate, removed Mathis from the panel.

  • unethical use of confidential informants,
  • not following due process of law by arranging sales cases with informants,
  • taking the drug money profits and gambling the drug money profits and county funds in stock market schemes;
  • violating oath of office in following the laws he was supposed to enforce
  • WHILE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MANNING THE JAIL!

In addition to the County's findings that he ran up a credit card for an unapproved Vegas trip, Hill held onto County funds $1.5 million or so, that he never should have taken out of County allotment/misuse of funds, AND HE FREQUENTED APARTMENT COMPLEXES TO SLEEP WITH UNDERAGE GIRLS, AND HAD HIS BODY GUARDS STAND LOOKOUT.

Victor Hill now also looks like he got off the crack rock, for once, after going throw lengthy bankruptcy, becoming a used car salesman, and losing a bid for District 34 Senate seat.

The operation illustrated how Georgia has become a hotbed for unscrupulous pain clinics as word spreads among drug-seekers that the state is "the place to come for pills," said John Comer, acting special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration Atlanta field division.
"Georgia is the epicenter of the pill mill pain clinic issue in the Southeast and, to a greater extent, the nation," Comer said.
Raids at 19 businesses and homes across the metro area Tuesday were the result of a yearlong investigation spearheaded by the DEA and the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office.
Pain clinic owners William Dean Benton, Malcolm Dwayne Garrett and Richard Joseph Romero made millions of dollars selling the powerful prescription pain drug oxycodone to clients who would ferry the pills as far away as Texas and Ohio, according to authorities.
DeKalb authorities first became aware of the pill mill racket at Better Living and Wellness Center in Chamblee when DEA agents approached them about an ongoing investigation this spring, officials said. About four months ago, the business relocated to Sandy Springs and reopened under a new name, the Atlanta Counseling and Recovery Center.
The two clinics' doctors, William Floyd Garrett and Curtis Edwin Wills, are accused of writing prescriptions for up to 250 30 milligram tablets of oxycodone after evaluating patients for less than three minutes. The clinics allegedly referred patients to six pharmacies in Douglasville, Canton, Marietta and Calhoun that were willing to fill the prescriptions with no questions asked.
"The only person who normally gets close to this amount is a cancer patient in his or her last days of life," said DeKalb District Attorney Robert James.
At the clinic-recommended pharmacies, patients paid a substantial markup of up to five times the usual cost for the drugs because legitimate pharmacies turned them away, James said.
The operation sold more than 225,900 pills last year, nearly five times Georgia’s average pill output for the year and more than three times the national average.
Others indicted include pharmacists David Ajueyitsi, Oko Owu Ukoh, Richard Paul Noell, Shad Justin Sutherland, Christopher Austin Parker, Christian Fumnanya Monyei and Christy Amos Parker.
All the defendants are charged with two counts of racketeering. If convicted, they face a sentence of between five and 20 years on each count.
Prosecutors said the pill mill conspiracy moved to Georgia two years ago when the operation was shut down in Florida.
Garrett, Wills and Benton were arrested Tuesday at the Sandy Springs clinic. About 20 patients inside the clinic will be held until authorities determine whether they are illegal drug users.
After the raid, police and agents also arrested three men inside their vehicles, presumably waiting to be called in to the clinic, authorities said.
James said clinic operators prohibited lines from forming outside to avoid drawing attention from police, and patrolled the parking lot to see if they were being watched.
GBI narcotics inspector Fred E. Stephens said pills mills are increasing prescription drug addiction in Georgia. Prescription drug-related overdose deaths increased by 10 percent from 2009 to 2010.
Both Stephens and James said they believe Georgia needs better laws to combat the abuse.
Would-be pill sellers are flocking from surrounding states where stiffer laws make access to addictive pain medicine more difficult, prosecutors say. Comer estimated there are about 90 pill mills currently operating in Georgia, where only a few years ago there were fewer than a dozen.
Georgia this spring became one of the last states to approve the creation of an electronic database to monitor prescription drug dispensing. The database will identify patients who are doctor-shopping and physicians who are over-prescribing. However, it won't be operational until January 2013.
WHY KAREN HANDEL WASN’T ELECTED GOVERNOR OF GEORGIA/WHY IT’S SO BAD THAT SUE EVERHART REMAINS FRIENDS WITH KAREN HANDEL:
Nothing could be more true when it comes this, than GA Republican candidate for Governor Karen Handel losing her lead to Nathan Deal, because at least 2,500 or more GA voters recognize that she did not collect 25% of state sales tax revenue from local businesses, (trying to pad her votes as much as she did the GA budget) and how she failed to charge former Sheriff Victor with misappropriation:

AND remember it’s all about Karen, campaign gear... I guess the money had to come from somewhere to print these... :

Yet these things above, he most certainly did while Sheriff, in addition to his male arresting officer conducting an inappropriate search on me as a female, telling me to shake out my bra, without calling a female officer to search my person.

Victor Hill also collaborated with Henry County without notifying FBI, in regards to unethical use of confidential informants, and HCPD violated my Habeas corpus, who had 5 officers threaten me, even though my insurance, registration, and license was legitimate, that we could "do this the easy way, or the hard way".

Let Victor Hill deny the grand jury’s charges because HE IS LYING; unlike Victor Hill, both I and __name withheld__ can both pass lie detector tests !!!!

Morrow police chief arrested for DUI

Crime Reports
MORROW, GA - It almost reads like a police novel, only instead of making a DUI arrest, the star got arrested for DUI himself.
After nearly 20 years in law enforcement and nearly 6 as Morrow's Police Chief, 45-year-old Jeff Baker is in big trouble.
He ended up in the Clayton County Jail early Thursday morning in handcuffs after supposedly being found drunk in his police car and being sarcastic and uncooperative with investigating officers.
RELATED: Read the Clayton County Police Report
"There's going to be an outside agency doing the investigation and the Chief of Police, Chief Baker, is currently on administrative leave with pay," Morrow Police Det. Sgt. Larry Oglesby told 11Alive News.
According to a Clayton County Police report, a Morrow police Sgt. pulled up behind another Morrow police car around 10 Thursday night on Southlake Parkway at State Road 54.
The Morrow Sergeant noticed the other police car sit through two traffic light changes without moving.
The Sgt. got out and found his boss, Chief Baker, asleep behind the wheel of his police car.
When he woke up, the Chief supposedly had trouble rolling down his window, his eyes were red and glassy, his speech slurred and he smelled strongly of alcohol.
The Morrow Sgt. moved his patrol car to block the Chief's and asked him to pull off the road so he could check to see if he was okay to drive.
Instead, Chief Baker supposedly replied, "I will get right on it, buddy", reversed his patrol car, drove around the Sgt.'s car and took off down SR 54.
The Sgt. followed the Chief's car, which he said had trouble maintaining his lane and was speeding on a wet roadway.
Eventually, the Chief drove into his assigned parking spot at the Morrow Police Department.
A Clayton County Police Officer arrived and found Chief Baker smoking a cigarette behind his police department.
The Clayton County officer also said the chief's eyes were red and glassy, his speech was slurred and he smelled strongly of alcohol.
That officer wrote that Chief Baker was sarcastic and refused to submit to field sobriety tests, a breathalyzer or a blood test.
That's when he was handcuffed and taken to jail.
The Clayton County officer said he found eight nearly empty beer cans in the chief's car as well as a cooler containing two unopened hard lemonade bottles.
Jail records indicate Chief Baker was charged with DUI, a red light violation, impeding traffic, having an open alcohol container in his car, driving too fast for conditions, improper lane change and failure to obey an officer's traffic instructions.
Baker got out of jail on a $5,000 bond a few hours after being arrested.
No one answered the door at his Morrow home Thursday and Baker did not return our phone calls.
Meanwhile, the 30 officer strong Morrow Police force is trying to continue enforcing the law without him.
"We're a small department, but we're strong and we're going to continue to do our job," said Sgt. Oglesby.
Some local citizens, including a few paying their tickets at city hall, were shocked.
"It really makes me not feel too safe in one way because they're here to uphold the law," said Rosa Russell.
"I think he should be treated same as we would," said Tammy Hertzog, "He shouldn't be out there drinking and driving."
Morrow City Manager Jeff Eady told 11Alive News on Thursday evening that he placed Chief Baker on administrative leave with pay until an investigation is completed.
Eady said he is still studying police reports and has already received at least one written account from Baker, but isn't ready to draw any firm conclusions just yet.

Jurors convicted a former San Diego police officer on multiple felony counts of sexual battery, assault and asking for bribes.
Anthony Arevalos preyed on young, female drivers during stops made in the Gaslamp Quarter from 2009 to 2011.
When one victim was pulled over by Arevalos in September 2009, he insisted on "favors" for letting her go without a citation.
Another was told she could avoid DUI charges if she pulled down the top of her dress in January 2010.
The former officer put his hand down another woman's pants and moved his hand from front to back after asking her to flash him in October 2010.

Jurors found Arevalos guilty on felony charges of sexual battery by restraint and assault and battery by an officer in connection with one incident that started a snowball effect of women coming forward with these stories.
It was a traffic stop on March 8 - the night of Mardi Gras in the Gaslamp.
Arevalos, in full uniform, took a 32-year-old woman, known in court documents as “Jane Doe” into the bathroom of the 7/11 on J Street where she took off her panties and was sexually assaulted.
After the victim reported the incident the next day, investigators recorded conversations with the ex-cop and located surveillance camera from the convenience store that corroborated her story.
Jurors found Arevalos guilty on all counts related to that incident except for felony false imprisonment, convicting him instead on a lesser misdemeanor count.
Arevalos was ultimately guilty of felony on eight charges, not guilty on eight charges with a mistrial declared for Count 8. He was also guilty of four counts that were reduced to misdemeanors.
In the counts associated with victims Jeannie E., Melissa W., Melissa M. and Melissa R., jurors found Arevalos guilty of assault and battery by an officer, asking for a bribe and misdemeanor false imprisonment.
Jurors acquitted Arevalos on counts connected with Danielle F. and Marjan M.
Marjan M. seemed baffled and confused after the reading of the verdicts -- all of the counts connected to her were rejected by the jury.
Marjan M. alleged that, in January 2010, Arevalos slipped his hand in to her pants under her thong and said, “Easy, you’re in good hands now.”
She also told investigators that when Arevalos put his hand on her breast, she thought it was an accident until he did it again as he moved her from the patrol car into police headquarters to take a breathalyzer test, court documents allege.
Marjan M. has filed a civil suit for an unspecified amount naming the City of San Diego and Arevalos, claiming emotional distress and severe depression.
After the verdicts, Arevalos huddled with attorney Michael Pancer. What they discussed is unknown, but while they did, Judge Jeffrey Fraser made a startling announcement.
"There is one verdict form that is not filled out," Fraser queried the jury.
After determining that was, in fact, correct, Fraser sent the jury back in to the deliberations room to fill out the form. It appears that the verdict form is for Count 8, which is from a charge connected to the alleged victim Melissa W.
They could not reach a verdict on the count which was in connection with victim Melissa W. so the judge declared a mistrial on that count.
Judge Fraser polled the jury after the readings, and they all affirmed that the verdicts had been read as they had been decided.
He then thanked them for their service and reminded them they could speak to the media only if they chose to do so.
The jurors then were released, after Fraser told them they could talk to the media, talk to the lawyers, talk to both, or return home.
Fraser told the panel that he had never seen a jury take more notes during a trial. He commended them for doing a very good job on a very difficult trial.
Fraser then began working with the attorneys to set a sentencing date, with a clerk suggesting Dec. 19. Von Helms agreed, with all parties agreeing to return to the court at 9:30 on that date.
Von Helms then requested that her client not be remanded to custody. Fraser, however, said that, based on the very serious nature of the case, he had decided to order Arevalos remanded to custody and also ordered the ex-cop to be held without bail.
San Diego Police Chief William Lansdowne responded to the verdict with a statement saying: "I believe that justice has been served in this case and the San Diego Police Department, as well as the law enforcement community in general, can begin to heal after this terrible episode. The jury was thoughtful and considerate in reaching their verdict and I am confident in their decisions."
Lansdowne also wrote that the case brought a "black mark of discredit upon all law enforcement" and he is said the department will ensure this does not happen again.
Twenty minutes before the verdict was read, Arevalos walked in flanked by lawyers. He looked relatively calm.
Only one of the two attorneys who defended Arevalos was with him for the verdict. That attorney was Gretchen von Helms. Her husband, attorney Jan Ronis, who defended the case during trial, was not there.
With von Helms and Arevalos was Pancer, a very noted defense attorney who was seen in court at least once during the trial.
Also with Arevalos, was defense atty Guadalupe Valencia and another attorney.
The trial in which he faced 21 felony counts went to the jury on November 10.

Officer Shoots, Kills Man in East Point

EAST POINT, Ga. - Police say an officer shot and killed a 54-year-old man in East Point Thursday.
Authorities tell FOX 5 they were serving a warrant during a drug investigation at the 3100 block of East Point Street. There were several people at the home when someone "made a threatening gesture," according to a statement released by police.
The officer responded by opening fire, shooting Dwight Person. He was pronounced dead after being transported to a hospital.
Verdella Person, the mother of Dwight Person, said she didn't think her son would fight with an officer.
"Now I don't know what they were shooting for, but someone busts your door in, somebody run in -- that scares a lot of people. You move around," Verdella Person said.
Seven people at the home were arrested. Verdella Person said her son didn't live at the house and wasn't involved in drugs.
Family members said Dwight Person was a military veteran and worked as a truck driver. He was a father of two.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the investigation. The officer involved in the shooting, a 10-year veteran,  has been placed on administrative leave, as per policy.

Freddie Mac gave Bachmann money [Updated: Bachmann returned it]

(This post has been updated).
Rep. Michele Bachmann hit former Speaker Newt Gingrich hard on Wednesday for receiving consulting fees from mortgage giant Freddie Mac, but it turns out Bachmann herself received campaign contributions from The Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation’s (Freddie Mac) political action committee during the 2007-2008 cycle.
“While [Gingrich] was taking that money, I was fighting against Fannie and Freddie,” Bachmann said on Wednesday.
It turns out that while she was “fighting” them, she was also taking their money.
To be sure, there is a big difference between being paid millions to consult for the group — and receiving campaign contributions from Freddie PAC. Still, it appears Bachmann may be living in a bit of a glass house here — especially for someone who promised “no surprises.”
Update: Bachmann’s camp tells me they may have returned the money after receiving the contributions. (I will update if that turns out to be the case.) If that does turn out to be what happened, it will also be interesting to note the timing of when the money was returned (the fact that they received at least two contributions — five months apart — makes me wonder).
***Update: Bachmann’s 2008 October report shows the contributions from Freddie PAC to Bachmann’s campaign were, in fact, returned on September 24, 2008.
It is at least curious, though, why Bachmann’s campaign received the first Freddie PAC contribution in February of 2008 — and returned the money seven months later. (I will update again if more information arises…)

Gingrich Said to Be Paid About $1.6 Million by Freddie Mac

Q

Newt Gingrich made between $1.6 million and $1.8 million in consulting fees from two contracts with mortgage company Freddie Mac, according to two people familiar with the arrangement.
The total amount is significantly larger than the $300,000 payment from Freddie Mac that Gingrich was asked about during a Republican presidential debate on Nov. 9 sponsored by CNBC, and more than was disclosed in the middle of congressional investigations into the housing industry collapse.
Gingrich’s business relationship with Freddie Mac spanned a period of eight years. When asked at the debate what he did to earn a $300,000 payment in 2006, the former speaker said he “offered them advice on precisely what they didn’t do,” and warned the company that its lending practices were “insane.” Former Freddie Mac executives who worked with Gingrich dispute that account.
Gingrich said this morning the payments were for “strategic advice over a long period of time.” His fees were sent to his consulting firm, The Gingrich Group, not to him personally, he said in an interview after making a campaign appearance in Des Moines, Iowa.
He said he couldn’t recall details of the contracts with Freddie Mac. “You are asking me about 12 years ago,” he said.

‘Small Part’

This afternoon, the Gingrich campaign issued a set of talking points in response to the coverage by Bloomberg News of his contract with Freddie Mac.
In the e-mailed memo, the campaign said Gingrich welcomed scrutiny of his record. “Freddie Mac was a small part of the client and revenue base of The Gingrich Group and Newt’s various small businesses,” the memo said.
Gingrich’s first contract with the mortgage company was in 1999, five months after he resigned from Congress and as House speaker, according to a Freddie Mac press release.
His primary contact inside the organization was Mitchell Delk, Freddie Mac’s chief lobbyist, and he was paid a self- renewing, monthly retainer of $25,000 to $30,000 between May 1999 until 2002, according to three people familiar with aspects of the business agreement.
During that period, Gingrich consulted with Freddie Mac executives on a program to expand home ownership, an idea Delk said he pitched to President George W. Bush’s White House.

‘Really Got It’

“I spent about three hours with him talking about the substance of the issues and the politics of the issues, and he really got it,” said Delk, adding that the two discussed “what the benefits are to communities, what the benefits could be for Republicans and particularly their relationship with Hispanics.”
One idea that the former Georgia congressman proposed that Freddie Mac didn’t pursue was initiating a program with the Boy Scouts of America to teach youngsters the importance of saving money and maintaining good credit so they would qualify to buy a home later in life.
In 2001, according to one person familiar with the work Gingrich performed, company officials asked him for feedback on their plan to publicly embrace “six voluntary commitments.”
The six items included a pledge to periodically issue subordinated debt, manage liquidity, undergo capital stress tests and expand various types of risk disclosures. Gingrich applauded the ideas, saying they would enable Freddie Mac to demonstrate benefits to the taxpayer, the person said.

Not a Lobbyist

“What he did was provide counsel on public policy issues,” Delk said in an interview. “There was no expectation that he would do any lobbying, and he did not do any lobbying.”
While campaigning in Iowa earlier this week, Gingrich, 68, was asked about his relationship with Freddie Mac. He said he did no lobbying “of any kind.”
At another event today in Des Moines, he declined to answer questions about what advice he gave Freddie Mac.
“I’m not going to get in an argument about what was and what wasn’t said,” he said. “I favor the people who need help getting housing if it’s done in a prudent way. That’s public record. I have given speeches all over the place about that.”
Gingrich’s second contract with Freddie Mac was a two-year retainer for which he was paid a total of $600,000, said two people familiar with the agreement.
What he did for the money is a subject of disagreement. Gingrich said during the CNBC debate that he advised the troubled firm as a “historian.” Gingrich said he warned that the company’s business model was a “bubble” and its lending practices were “insane.”

Building Bridges

None of the former Freddie Mac officials who spoke on condition of anonymity said Gingrich raised the issue of the housing bubble or was critical of Freddie Mac’s business model.
“We dispute your sources’ account,” said R.C. Hammond, a Gingrich campaign spokesman.
A Freddie Mac spokesman declined to comment on the Gingrich contracts.
Former Freddie Mac officials familiar with his work in 2006 say Gingrich was asked to build bridges to Capitol Hill Republicans and develop an argument on behalf of the company’s public-private structure that would resonate with conservatives seeking to dismantle it.
He was expected to provide written material that could be circulated among free-market conservatives in Congress and in outside organizations, said two former company executives familiar with Gingrich’s role at the firm. He didn’t produce a white paper or any other document the firm could use on its behalf, they said.

Frequent Critic

Since his retainer with Freddie Mac ended in 2008, Gingrich has become a critic of the government-sponsored enterprises, which were pushed into insolvency by subprime mortgages.
The two companies, Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae, “are so thoroughly politicized and preside over such irresponsible lending policies that they need to be replaced with smaller, private companies operating without government guarantees, whose leaders focus on making a profit, not manipulating politicians,” Gingrich wrote in his 2011 book, “To Save America.”
In an Oct. 11 Republican presidential debate, he said Democrats and the housing-loan practices led to the industry’s collapse.
“You ought to start with Barney Frank,” when talking about people to put in jail, Gingrich said, referring to the Massachusetts congressman who’s the top Democrat on the House Financial Services Committee. “Go back and look at the lobbyists he was close to at Freddie Mac,” Gingrich said in the debate, sponsored by Bloomberg News and the Washington Post.

NO, NO, AND HELL NO TO HERMAN CAIN:

HERMAN CAIN MUST THINK I'M STUPID:

This is all I have to say about Herman Cain:

I do not want him as my next President, and how I feel about him lying to everyone on CSPAN: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FygVTPNiKcE

For you to say that Herman Cain is a Conservative is a total lie: Herman Cain is a Republicanized Obama, the 9-9-9 pays for the misappropriation of Obama: in now way, ever, would ANY FISCAL CONSERVATIVE TELL THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT THEY HAD TO PAY FOR $15 TRILLION OF OBAMA'S MISAPPROPRIATION. 9-9-9 hurts the church/poor and small business, because you are paying 27% flat tax, no deductions given for donations, and instead of the 3-4% for food, that is now 9% taxes on everything bought or sold, not just sales tax of 7%. We can not do 9-9-9 without a Balanced Budget or zero based budgeting, or it will kill the economy by finishing it off. If you look at your monthly budget, you will see that 9-9-9 gobbles up the spending money of what is left after paying monthly bills.

The rich get richer under 9-9-9, because corporate taxes are reduced to 27% instead of 35%. Think these fat cat corporations are going to hire?! HELL NO: they will pocket the 8% as revenue to make up for all the money they've lost in the past 10yrs. of war. Another thing: if you do away with the IRS, there is no one to hold them accountable for fraud. Why do you think Herman Cain's donations went up when he pitched 9-9-9, after abandoning his original stance on being against a National Sales Tax, that is a 2 edged Value Added Tax.... at least a Value Added Tax would target those over $100,000 a year, those who can afford to buy luxury items.

That is why 9-9-9 is so bad: it forces the middle class to pay for Obama's misappropriation wherein Obama has not charged corporations for lobbying fraud (Fannie/Freddie, Solyndra, others) and the middle class is stuck paying for the tab to pay the debts caused by lack of entitlement reform where the Obama Admin. passed out food stamps, unemployment, and welfare like it was candy!! Along with the bailouts/stimulus, the government is not enforcing the laws it has created, and Cain is using 9-9-9 to finance government after Obama's misappropriation.

Cain has changed since he started campaigning, the attention got to his head: he abandoned fair/flat tax proposals for the 9-9-9 which benefits corporations and received money from corporate donors. Cain also used lobbying in his younger days to try and get laid, and alcohol is obviously the key factor because he drank and partied working for the National Restaurant Association, and that got him in so much trouble there was a payout. The problem is Cain lied about the payout, and Cain became a sucker politician like the rest with this 9-9-9 b.s. !!!

No, No, and Hell No to Herman Cain!!

Aja, the amount of misinformation and lack of understanding of 9-9-9 that you have put in this posting is so overwhelming that I don't know where to begin. Also, as a Reagan conservative I am offended by the vitriolic rhetoric that you have expressed against Herman Cain. Conservatives need to stick to civil discussions of the issues rather than the tearing down a person's character. We have come to expect this kind of language from the far left liberals, but we should be better than that. I have known and respected Herman Cain for almost 10 years and your description of him is certainly not the man I know. He doesn't deserve this kind of character assassination.

‎"Monetary and political sovereignty are intertwined. Monetary sovereignty means the citizens, through their government, control their currency. But the private Federal Reserve controls our currency and suffocates our freedom. The fraudulent national debt to them is the primary cause of our nation's meltdown."

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. Already they have raised up a moneyed aristocracy that has set the government at defiance. Thank you, Sir.
I find your answer thorough, complete, and proper: the Constitution gives provision for equality and issues of sexuality that are separate issues from DOMA, in respect to human rights or discrimination on a case-by-case basis. There is no need to protect a union, legally or morally, that does not reproduce a genetically unique and diverse offspring, the principle for the institution of DOMA.

Thank you for your timely response. I look forward to grading the nominees and assisting with drafting the budget.

Dear Ms. Brooks:
Thank you for contacting my office to share your views on same-sex marriages and the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). It is good to hear from you.
On February 23, 2011, the Administration declared Section Three of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage for federal purposes, unconstitutional. As a result, the Department of Justice, with the support of Attorney General Holder, will no longer pursue legal defense of this section.
In 1996, I co-sponsored DOMA, which defined marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman. Additionally, it provided that each state could determine whether or not to recognize same-sex marriages, and that states were not bound by the decisions made by other states on this issue.  The DOMA overwhelmingly passed both the House of Representatives and the Senate and was signed into law by President Clinton.
It is my belief that the executive branch must enforce this law unless Congress repeals DOMA, or the judicial branch renders a definitive verdict on the constitutionality. I intend to work with my colleagues in the Senate to review all available options to ensure that this duly enacted law is enforced by the executive branch. Should any legislation related to this matter come before the Senate, I will keep your thoughts in mind.

NOMINEE(S) WHO WILL BE HAPPY WHEN THE TEA PARTY GRADES THEM:
RICK PERRY:
Thank you. It is great to be here at Schebler in Bettendorf, Iowa.
I want to say a special thanks to Jim Anderson, your president, for opening your facility to us, and letting us meet the hardworking men and women of this plant. And I am especially delighted to be joined by the governor of a nearby Midwestern state, Kansas governor Sam Brownback.
Governor Brownback not only has the perspective of a leader in America’s heartland, but was a United States Senator, where he had an up-close view of just how broken Washington is, and has witnessed Washington’s encroachment on the 10th Amendment from both perspectives. He shares my desire for fundamental reform in Washington, and I am delighted to be joined by him today here in Iowa.
The issue this election is not whether Washington is broken, but how we go about fixing it. There are two approaches, and even my own party is split.
There are some who want to tinker with the status quo. They want to work within the current system to achieve marginal change. Then there are those who believe, as I do, that Washington is too broken to be fixed by tinkering on the margins.
I do not believe Washington needs a new coat of paint, it needs a complete overhaul. We need to uproot, tear down and rebuild Washington, D.C. and our federal institutions.
We should apply the wisdom of Solomon to Washington. Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, says, “there is a time to plant and a time to uproot, there is a time to tear down and a time to build.”
It is time to tear down the monuments to bureaucratic failure, and in their place build a smaller, more efficient federal government that puts the American People first.
The Washington Insiders won’t address Beltway decay, they won’t try a totally new way, because they like things as they are.
The lobbyists make their living on protecting corporate loopholes, and securing earmarks for the special interests they represent.
The status quo is good to the Washington Insiders. It’s good to the overpaid bureaucrats. It’s good for the power-players who can trade favors to build fiefdoms of influence.
While the rest of America remains mired in the ruin caused by Washington’s out-of–touch, big government economic policies, Washington is doing fine.
In fact, the Washington metro area is now the most affluent metropolitan area in the country. That’s because all the lobbyists, contractors and over-paid czars and bureaucrats haven’t suffered one bit in the worst economy in 70 years. While Main Street’s windows have been boarded up, the cash continues to flow to Wall Street financiers and Beltway profiteers.
Let me ask you a question: if you found out the house you built had crumbling walls, faulty wiring, and a leaky roof, would you call in the original incompetent builder to fix it?
And if it was fundamentally flawed, would you add on to the same faulty structure, or would you tear it down, and re-build again with a totally new crew?
Our country’s foundation – the American people and the United States Constitution – is still strong.
It’s what the politicians and bureaucrats have built upon that foundation, on the backs of American taxpayers, that must be replaced and rebuilt.
Those who got us into this mess will not get us out. Those who increased the debt $4 trillion in three years cannot be trusted to bring in a new era of fiscal austerity. Those who made the economic crisis worse do not have the capacity to make it better.
In recent weeks our president has taken to pointing the finger of blame instead of taking responsibility. He has called us soft and lazy, and he has said Americans lack ambition and imagination.
Mr. President, Americans aren’t soft or lazy, and Americans do not lack ambition of imagination, Washington has failed us.
We need new leadership. We need a new builder. We need a Washington Outsider.
Unique to the Republican field, I have never been an establishment figure, have never served in Congress or part of an Administration, and have never been a paid lobbyist. My career has been that of a Washington Outsider.
Here is my plan to fix our three broken branches of government.
Part one of my plan is to reform the federal judiciary by ending life terms for unelected federal judges. Too many federal judges rule with impunity from the bench, and those who legislate from the bench should not be entitled to lifetime abuse of their judicial authority.
Under my plan, future appointees to the federal bench will not receive a lifetime appointment.
Part two involves deconstructing the permanent political class in the legislative branch. Congress is out of touch because Congressmen are overpaid, over-staffed and away from home too much. Americans have had enough.
It’s time to create a part-time Congress where their pay is cut in half, their office budgets are cut in half, and their time in Washington is cut in half.
And if they do not submit a budget that balances by 2020, as my plan calls for, we should cut their pay in half again.
And when I take office, we will work to freeze congressional and agency salaries until the budget is balanced.
We have a lot of well-intentioned members of Congress. But they have become creatures of Washington. They get paid more than three times the average American Family, and they have doubled their own budgets in the last decade.
They are completely detached from the people, who are struggling to get by, and can’t vote to raise their own pay.
Some have even abused the public’s trust, trading on inside information to pad their stock portfolios. Congress has proven it can’t be trusted to watch our money, and now its clear they can’t be trusted with theirs’.
Any Congressman or Senator that uses their insider knowledge to profit in the stock market ought to be sent to jail – period.
And my plan makes that clear. But in reality, they shouldn’t wait until we have a new president, they ought to pass a law right now that criminalizes Insider Trading in Congress, no ifs, ands or buts.
We send members of Congress to look out for America, not enrich themselves. But too often, they are taken captive by the Washington culture.
That’s why we need a part-time Congress. I say send them home to live under the laws they pass among the people they represent.
Further, we must change the spending culture in Congress.
No more bailouts of bankers, no more earmarks for pet projects, and no more spending beyond our means.
I will bring spending down to 18 percent of GDP, the average amount of the last 50 years. And I will fight in every corner of this country for a balanced budget amendment to the US Constitution.
And two more points on spending: no longer will we prop up failed entities like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which were at the heart of the economic collapse because of mortgage financing policies that gave false confidence to homebuyers who have now defaulted or are under water.
We will privatize Fannie and Freddie so politicians can no longer politicize them, and taxpayers will no longer be fleeced by them.
And lastly, we will put a permanent stop to federal funding of Planned Parenthood because our tax dollars should never be used in taking an innocent, unborn life.
The third part of my plan involves the dismantling and rebuilding of the permanent bureaucracy.
We will eliminate agencies that perform redundant functions. I will get rid of the Commerce Department, the Department of Education, and the Department of Energy.
We will downsize and re-task the EPA so it no longer torments job creators or gives an official stamp to phony science.
We will end the TSA’s harassment of law-abiding travelers and return transportation security to the private sector.
And we will restructure the behemoth that has become the Department of Homeland Security.
We will perform a full audit of the Federal Government, and there will be no sacred cows, including wasteful spending at the Department of Defense, where every dollar we spend should support our warfighters around the world.
We will put a moratorium on every pending federal regulation, and order a full audit of the last five years of new regulations, repealing those that are not affordable, effective or that kill jobs.
And we will say to every bureaucrat except our military and law enforcement: no salary increases until the federal budget is balanced. And because a president must lead by example, we should cut his salary in half until the budget is balanced.
Washington is so broken, Americans will accept nothing less than a complete overhaul of the way business is done in America.
Americans know there is a season for everything under the sun. And this is the season for tearing down and rebuilding again, for uprooting the broken branches of government in Washington, and building a new government that is smaller and more humble, so America can be stronger and freer again.

Proof of US citizenship required for attendance at Perry town hall-style event

By Associated Press, Published: November 16

MANCHESTER, N.H. — People attending a Rick Perry presidential campaign event Wednesday were asked to prove they are American citizens.
The town hall-style meeting at Granite State Manufacturing, the first of two events Perry was holding in New Hampshire, was open to the public.

But campaign officials said federal regulations required proof of citizenship because the company handles defense contracts. A Granite State employee sat beside a Perry campaign staffer at the door and asked attendees whether they were citizens.
The employee, who refused to give her name, said non-citizens wouldn’t be admitted.
While Perry’s rivals have faced similar restrictions when they held events on the premises of federal defense contractors, the issue Wednesday brought unwanted attention to Perry’s complicated immigration record at a critical point in his quest for the Republican presidential nomination.
Some of his rivals privately seized on his decision to hold an event with such restrictions. The leader of a regional immigration advocacy group was more vocal.
“It’s disturbing, especially given his record on immigration,” said Eva Millona, executive director of the Massachusetts Immigrant and Refugee Advocacy Coalition.
Perry, the governor of Texas, has faced sustained criticism over a Texas policy that allows in-state college tuition for illegal immigrants. He also has struggled to win over some conservatives for being against putting up a fence along the border with Mexico.
John Stephen, a prominent Perry supporter in New Hampshire and recent Republican gubernatorial candidate, defended Perry.
“This is a manufacturing business where the governor wanted to meet with workers,” Stephen said. “There is no one that’s done more through action to oppose illegal immigration than Rick Perry.”
A Granite State employee, assembly manager Shawn O’Hagan, later said immigrants should not have been blocked from attending the event. But he said those without proof of citizenship would need to be escorted inside.
It was unclear whether any immigrants attended.

Perry: Part-Time Congress Is Not a 'Radical' Concept

Presidential hopeful Rick Perry says making Congress a part-time entity is not a radical concept, noting that many state legislatures do not meet all year, every year. The Texas governor also told Fox News’ Sean Hannity Wednesday his proposal for a part-time Congress could help the federal government learn to live within its means.

“You think about it: I think [House Minority Whip] Steny Hoyer or someone of his ilk said that was a radical idea — well, it’s not a radical idea. You think about how many state legislatures meet part-time,” Perry said. “I just left New Hampshire a couple hours ago — they meet part-time and they get their work done. My home state — we meet for 140 days every other year. Texas would be the 13th largest economy in the world if it were a stand-alone entity and we are able to get our work done.

“And the best I can tell, Texas is doing pretty good compared to the rest of the country from the standpoint of job creation,” he said. “So, I think having a part-time Congress with half the staff, half the pay, and let them spend half the time in Washington, D.C. — they have been spending, and I got to figure America is going to be twice as good off, at least.”

Hannity pointed to recent disclosures that members of Congress are exempt from stock market insider-trading laws. Perry noted if elected president he would ensure lawmakers obey their own laws.

“You know, the Freedom of Information Act — they have exempted themselves from that. They don’t have to show the conversations or the emails or the texts — I mean, that’s what Americans are really upset with,” Perry said. “And you think that there’s a party going on in Washington, D.C. — and you know, what? There is a party going on — and it’s on our dime and we are tired of paying for it.

“So, [a] part-time legislature — have them live within the same laws that they’ve passed. That's why — I think that’s the reason the states function as well as they do that have the part-time legislators by and large — you work at a job back home,” he said. “And I [would] change the law where Congress can have a job, outside income where they go back to wherever they are from. And they work, they live within the communities where they are supposed to be and they live within the laws that they passed — it makes sense.”

BREAKING: House to Hold Hearing on Congressional Insider Trading; Both Houses Now Investigating

by Publius
Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL), under pressure from conservatives, liberals, and his own constituents, has announced that the House Financial Services Committee, which he chairs, will hold hearings on Dec. 6 to consider legislation to prevent insider trading by members of Congress.
From Breitbart.tv:
Both the House and the Senate are now planning hearings on congressional insider trading, following exposés by Breitbart editor Peter Schweizer in his new book, Throw Them All Out.
In a lovely bit of irony, Rep. Barney Frank–he who rejected 18 requests by George W. Bush to tighten up standards at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac–wrote a letter to Rep. Bachus, encouraging him to craft legislation against Congressional insider trading practices:
I am still not sure that this is widespread, but given the attention that we have seen on this matter now, and given the importance of those whom we represent being fully assured that we are behaving appropriately, I think that we should now take up this legislation and, after suitable study, enact some version of it.
And now, Congressman Bachus has agreed to a hearing.
Initial reluctance by some media outlets to take on this controversial issue is now yielding in the face of public outrage.
From The Hill:
House Financial Services Committee Chairman Spencer Bachus (R-Ala.) announced Thursday that his panel would be considering legislation to prohibit lawmakers from investing based on private information.
The chairman announced the Dec. 6 hearing one day after ranking member Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), sent a letter to Bachus, calling on the committee to consider such legislation and eventually pass it. The announcement also comes after Bachus has come under scrutiny for allegations that he profited on investments made based on private information.
“Existing law clearly prohibits insider trading by members of Congress.  However, the American public deserves for there to be no question or equivocation concerning members of Congress or any citizen being exempted from laws prohibiting insider trading,” Bachus said in a statement.
Frank told Bachus in his letter that he had “neglected” similar legislation when he was chairman of the committee, but that recent attention to the matter meant the bill should be considered and passed.
The panel will consider a bill, introduced by Reps. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) and Tim Walz (D-Minn.), which would prohibit members and White House employees from investing based on private information, or from passing that information along to others for investment purposes.

Union Bailout Update

Senator Isakson
Both teams seem to be adding arms and legs to their side of the tug-of-war rope in the contest between pro-employer politicians and Big Labor. The latest announcement out of D.C. is Senator Johnny Isakson’s introduction of a bill designed to reverse the Specialty Healthcare decision that opened the door for so-called micro-unions. “The administration’s decision to allow micro bargaining units recklessly disregards the long-standing principles of collective bargaining. This action is yet another example of how President Obama’s appointees at this agency are tipping the scales in favor of unions,” said Isakson. Twenty eight others have signed on as co-sponsors of the Representation Fairness Restoration Act (S. 1843).
At the state level, Big Labor found a way to mobilize enough support to catch conservative lawmakers by
surprise and defeat Senate Bill 5 in Ohio, designed to limit public-employee union bargaining. The effort to flood the streets with foot soldiers and sway public opinion against the reform-minded politicians cost Big Labor
Occupy Protestors in Ohio
$30 million, in what some are saying is a precursor to the kind of activity we should expect during the 2012 election season. It appears that the politicians underestimated the capabilities of their opponent and were caught a bit flat-footed by the corporate campaign tactics employed against them. It is shaping up to be an ugly election season.

Pentagon successfully tests hypersonic flying bomb
(AFP) – 7 hours ago
WASHINGTON — The Pentagon on Thursday held a successful test flight of a flying bomb that travels faster than the speed of sound and will give military planners the ability to strike targets anywhere in the world in less than a hour.
Launched by rocket from Hawaii at 1130 GMT, the "Advanced Hypersonic Weapon," or AHW, glided through the upper atmosphere over the Pacific "at hypersonic speed" before hitting its target on the Kwajalein atoll in the Marshall Islands, a Pentagon statement said.
Kwajalein is about 2,500 miles (4,000 kilometers) southwest of Hawaii. The Pentagon did not say what top speeds were reached by the vehicle, which unlike a ballistic missile is maneuverable.
Scientists classify hypersonic speeds as those that exceed Mach 5 -- or five times the speed of sound -- 3,728 miles (6,000 kilometers) an hour.
The test aimed to gather data on "aerodynamics, navigation, guidance and control, and thermal protection technologies," said Lieutenant Colonel Melinda Morgan, a Pentagon spokeswoman.
The US Army's AHW project is part of the "Prompt Global Strike" program which seeks to give the US military the means to deliver conventional weapons anywhere in the world within an hour.
On August 11, the Pentagon test flew another hypersonic glider dubbed HTV-2, which is capable of flying 27,000 kilometers per hour, but it was a failure.
The AHW's range is less than that of the HTV-2, the Congressional Research Service said in a report, without providing specifics.
The Pentagon has invested 239.9 million dollars in the Global Strike program this year, including 69 million for the flying bomb tested Thursday, CRS said.
