Hawaii Senior Elections Clerk: “Barack Obama Was Not Born In Hawaii”
MAY 29, 2012 BY GEORGE SPELVIN 22 COMMENTS“For starters, just because there is no long form birth certificate on file in Hawaii, that doesn’t rule out President Obama being born elsewhere in the United States, or even in Hawaii,” states Hawaii’s former Senior Election Clerk Timothy Lee Adams in his Masters Thesis that was signed off on by four English Department Deans at Western Kentucky University in partial fulfillment of the Requirement for Degree of Master of Arts, on June 13, 2011.
Adams was the Chief Elections Clerk (Pg. 30) for the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii. “On a temporary contract, I ran an office that verified voter eligibility that had a staff of about fifty people,” he also told radio host James Edwards of the Liberty News Radio Network. “Barack Obama was not born in Hawaii,” the former elections clerk continued. “It (Pg. 31) was openly admitted by everyone in the office who was above me, at least my immediate supervisors, that there is no documentation.” Adams details the governmental databases and other means of authentication used included “NCIS, Social Security, all these other things we use on average voters; there were two people higher than me in our office, who are under the City Clerk of Honolulu. . .” (Pg. 30)
Now Adams emphatically states in his Masters Thesis: “. . .in my professional opinion, Barack Obama was NOT (emphasis added) born in the United States, and there is no Hawaii long-form birth certificate.” (Pg. 30, 31) Contrast this man’s statement (a man who was vetted for military, civil, and academic service) with the Verification of Birth certified statement of State Registrar Alvin T. Onaka, signed and issued to Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett on May 22, 2012. Onaka’s document says: “Pursuant to Hawaii Revised Statutes 338-14.3, I verify the following: A birth certificate is on file with the Department of Health indicating that Barack Hussein Obama, II was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.” Now Onaka’s 12 point official Department of Health document bearing the seal of the State of Hawaii also says, “Birthplace of Father: Kenya, East Africa,” providing official authentication and documentation that the sitting President of the United States does not carry the Natural Born Citizenship status as required by Article II, Sect. 1, clause 5, of our U.S. Constitution, the higher standard required to hold the office of President!
Adams details in his 96 page Masters document the enormous amount of vicious cyber attacks, intimidations, and ad hominem attacks lobbed at him from all sorts of political and media operatives. Because he has had male patterned baldness since his youth, this now-47-year-old man was labeled a “Skinhead,” and even neighborhood children called him that while hurling pebbles at him. Adams credits the GLOBE Celebrity Magazine, which did four features on him, as having treated him with the most decency and professionalism. When a youtube video of his interview went viral, and the intimidation and threats became extremely intense, meetings were held, and he virtually went silent in the Land of Free Speech. Additionally, Adams revealed that “We had a set of documents, fifty identity documents stolen out of the office, and they were all the voting records-the ballots that people sent in who were members of the U.S. Foreign Service around the Pacific rim.” Adams goes on, “From there, things got really, really ugly,” and he left to finish his academic requirements in Hawaii and to move to Western Kentucky University “where I teach now.” (Pg. 32). Apparently, these government dignitaries who had mailed in their absentee ballots did not want it revealed who they had voted for as it would have made it difficult for them to hold onto their jobs!
Adams says, “A lie has been told, and when a lie is obvious, the public’s just not going to go away.” And then he says this: “President Obama’s official autobiography is false.” How does that compute with Onaka saying, “Additionally, I verify that the information in the copy of the Certificate of Live Birth for Mr. Obama that you [ Arizona SoS Bennett] attached with your request matches the original record in our files”? Guess what, it does not. And the public is not going away, either.

#Former Clayton County Sheriff Victor Hill was indicted, today, on 37 counts, including racketeering, theft by taking, lying, influencing a witness and violation of oath of office.
#The only statement he made to reporters is that he is still running for sheriff.
#He is expected to immediately post a $50,000 bond.
#His attorney, Musa Ghanayem, said the indictment was political in nature, and he believes Hill still has a lot of support in the community.

WASHINGTON — There is a general suspicion among parts of the intelligence community in Washington that Hezbollah and Al Qaeda, despite their differences, have cooperated in the past and continue to cooperate on jihad-related activities against the United States and its interests at home and abroad.
In June 2004, the U.S. 9/11 commission found no operational ties between Al Qaeda and Iraq. It did, however, conclude that Osama bin Laden's global terrorist network had long-running contacts with Iran and Hezbollah.
The alleged relationship between Al Qaeda and Hezbollah hit the spotlight in 2000 when it was reported that Imad Mugniyah, an international terrorist who is widely believed to be associated with Hezbollah, met with Osama bin Laden in Sudan to plan the bombings of the U.S. embassies in Africa.
Without access to reliable intelligence, the above allegation and others simply cannot be independently refuted. That one or more alleged Hezbollah members may have met in their lifetimes with a leader or fighter belonging to Al Qaeda's global network is a possibility that cannot be repudiated.
The assumption that Hezbollah and Al Qaeda have a solid operational or strategic relationship and cooperate on matters pertaining to global jihad can be challenged on the basis of the following four reasons.
One, irreconcilable theological differences: Al Qaeda follows a Manichaean ideology that sees Shiite Muslims as the lowest of the low, even worse than the Jews and the "crusaders." For Al Qaeda, Shiites are rawafidh (rejectionist Muslims) and should be fought like all other infidels. A week before he was killed by a U.S. air strike, the Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, issued a fiery statement accusing Hezbollah of acting as a protective buffer for Israel. Hezbollah, generally reserved in its comments on internal Islamic issues, first commented on Al Qaeda and its ideology soon after the 9/11 attacks when Hassan Nasrallah, the party's secretary general, described it as an "entity trapped in medieval ages and bent on killing innocent Muslims." In June 2006, Nawaf al-Musawi, the director of Hezbollah's external relations office, replied to Zarqawi's allegations by accusing him of being a tool of the United States and Israel against Arab resistance groups and by viewing his criminal acts as solely intended to ignite civil wars and sectarian fighting.
Two, conflicting political strategies: Contrary to Al Qaeda, Hezbollah has accepted the political process and has been legitimately engaged in participatory and competitive politics (notwithstanding of course the controversial nature of its paramilitary wing). While Al Qaeda is bent on destroying Arab regimes and their allies and on replacing them with Taliban-style systems of governance, Hezbollah aims to work within the Lebanese system. As revolutionary as it is, Hezbollah indirectly negotiates and makes deals with its enemies (evidenced in the several prisoner exchanges with Israel over the last decade). In sum, contrary to Al Qaeda, Hezbollah can be engaged.
Three, strategic differences: It is hard to envision any strategic relationship between Al Qaeda and Hezbollah when the former is officially at war with the latter's strategic orbit, comprised of Iran and Syria. Several of Al Qaeda's leaders and grand ideologues have issued statements over the years describing Hezbollah as nothing but an "agent of the Safavid empire" (in reference to Iran) and interpreting the Shiite group's agenda as solely intended to conspire to destroy Islam and to resuscitate Persian imperial rule over the Middle East and ultimately the world.
Four, the physical state of war between the two entities: Al Qaeda has demonstrated its hatred of Hezbollah over the years by launching a number of attacks against the Shiite group. In July 2004, Jund al-Sham, a Qaeda ally in Lebanon, claimed responsibility for the murder of an Hezbollah senior official, Ghaleb Awali. In December 2005, in an attempt to implicate Hezbollah in an attack against Israel, four fighters of Al Qaeda in Iraq launched 10 Krad rockets from southern Lebanon into Kiryat Shemona in northern Israel. Finally, in April 2006, the Lebanese authorities foiled a plot by a local Salafist jihadist network to assassinate Hezbollah's secretary general, Hassan Nasrallah.
Lumping Al Qaeda and Hezbollah in the same basket will only do disservice to the global counterterrorism campaign. Each entity poses a distinct set of challenges to the Unites States and the West. Leading a successful campaign against these entities will require individual strategies tailored to address the distinctive threats they pose.
Encouraging the animosity of one toward the other and underscoring their differences serves the global war on terrorism better than creating a sense of solidarity between them.

THE “ANONYMOUS” CONNECTION TO THE ZETAS CARTEL:
Anonymous' Operation Cartel
On 6 October 2011 a man identified himself as a member of Anonymous posted a video on YouTube under the account MrAnonymousguyfawkes stating that Los Zetas had kidnapped one of their group members and demanded Los Zetas Cartel release the individual. If he was not freed, the man in the video threatened to expose photos and the names of several people who collaborate with the cartel, such as police officers and taxi drivers.[143][144] The man in the video stated that they were "fed up" with the situation in Mexico where people are getting kidnapped and experiencing violence.[145]The operation to expose information of people who work with Los Zetas, dubbed "Operation Cartel", was reportedly started as a result of an Anonymous member being kidnapped during Operation Paperstorm in Veracruz,[146] a once peaceful city.[147] On 29 October 2011 the Global Intelligence group Stratfor released a report stating that if Anonymous did go through with OpCartel, most certainly it would lead to more deaths and could leave bloggers and others open to reprisal attacks by the cartels.[148] Meanwhile, a retired head of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration in Puerto Rico, Mike Vigil, warned that "Los Zetas should take Anonymous seriously."[149]
OpCartel also raised the concern that Los Zetas have experts in computer intelligence who are believed to track down the "anti-cartel" campaigns online,[150] which helps experts understand the high rate of journalist executions.[151] Additionally, the Mexican drug cartels generally have people monitor forums, news websites, and blogs to help them be in touch with what is being published and with what could affect their interests.[152][153] The New York Times mentioned that Los Zetas has access to sophisticated tracking software due to the fact that they have infiltrated Mexican law enforcement agencies, and that online anonymity might not be enough protection for Internet users.[154]
On 4 November 2011, Anonymous posted on the Iberoamerican Blog that the kidnapped member had been released and that they had confirmed his identity. They also stated that they would not be moving forward with releasing the information they had of several cartel members.[155][156][157][158]

Mexican officials said on Wednesday that he had been removed from a maximum security prison near the US border and put on a plane to New York, where he will face charges.
The Sinaloa cartel, which he reportedly led alongside his brother, Ismael, is also accused of carrying out hundreds of acts of violence, including murders, kidnapping and torture.
The arrest of Mr Zambada puts pressure on the man thought to have been his former boss, Joaquin "Shorty" Guzman, currently the world's most wanted drug trafficker with a $5m dollar reward on his head.

As the United States considers the Islamic jihadi threats confronting it from all sides, it might do well to focus on its southern neighbor, Mexico, which has been targeted by Islamists and jihadists, who, through a number of tactics — from engaging in da’wa, converting Mexicans to Islam, to smuggling and the drug cartel, to simple extortion, kidnappings and enslavement — have been subverting Mexico in order to empower Islam and sabotage the US.According to a 2010 report, “Close to home: Hezbollah terrorists are plotting right on the US border,” which appeared in the NY Daily News:
Mexican authorities have rolled up a Hezbollah network being built in Tijuana, right across the border from Texas and closer to American homes than the terrorist hideouts in the Bekaa Valley are to Israel. Its goal, according to a Kuwaiti newspaper that reported on the investigation: to strike targets in Israel and the West. Over the years, Hezbollah — rich with Iranian oil money and narcocash — has generated revenue by cozying up with Mexican cartels to smuggle drugs and people into the US In this, it has shadowed the terrorist-sponsoring regime in Tehran, which has been forging close ties with Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, who in turn supports the narcoterrorist organization FARC, which wreaks all kinds of havoc throughout the region.
Another 2010 article appearing in the Washington Times asserts that, “with fresh evidence of Hezbollah activity just south of the border [in Mexico], and numerous reports of Muslims from various countries posing as Mexicans and crossing into the United States from Mexico, our porous southern border is a national security nightmare waiting to happen.” This is in keeping with a recent study done by Georgetown University, which revealed that the number of immigrants from Lebanon and Syria living in Mexico exceeds 200,000. Syria, along with Iran, is one of Hezbollah’s strongest financial and political supporters, and Lebanon is the immigrants’ country of origin.
A jihadist cell in Mexico was recently found to have a weapons cache of 100 M-16 assault rifles, 100 AR-15 rifles, 2,500 hand grenades, C4 explosives and antitank munitions. The weapons, it turned out, had been smuggled by Muslims from Iraq. According to this report, “obvious concerns have arisen concerning Hezbollah’s presence in Mexico and possible ties to Mexican drug trafficking organizations (DTO’s) operating along the US — Mexico border.”
As far back as 2005, an article entitled “Islam is gaining a Foothold in Chiapas” showcased the inroads of Islam in Mexico:
Long a bastion of Catholicism, southern Mexico is quickly turning into a battleground for soul-savers. Islam, too, is gaining a foothold and the indigenous Mayans are converting by the hundreds. The Mexican government is worried about a culture clash in their own backyard… Muslim women in headscarves have become a common sight…
“Life is cheap” in impoverished Mexico. You want a job? Fine, pray five times a day, etc…
Kidnappings, as part of a drug cartel or as part of a jihadist operation, which legitimizes crimes such as kidnapping and child slavery, have become increasingly common. To convert non-Muslims to their cause, Islamists also whip up — and then exploit — a sense of “grievance” against the “white man.”
In addition, according to counterterrorism experts in this report, Islamic terrorists blend in better with Mexicans than with Europeans, thereby enabling them to sneak into the US across the southwest border. This Muslim cleric, for example, discusses how easy it is to smuggle a briefcase containing anthrax from Mexico into America, thereby killing at least some 330,000 Americans in a single hour.
Similarly, Michael Braun, formerly assistant administrator and chief of operations at the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), said that the Iran-backed Lebanese group has long been involved in narcotics and human trafficking in South America; however, it is relying on Mexican narcotics syndicates that control access to transit routes into the US Hezbollah relies on “the same criminal weapons smugglers, document traffickers and transportation experts as the drug cartels.”
Only a few months ago, Washington announced that FBI and DEA agents disrupted a plot to commit a “significant terrorist act in the United States,” tied to Iran with roots in Mexico. The increased violence — including beheadings, Islam’s signature trademark — is even more indicative that Islamists are well ensconced in Mexico’s drug cartel.
The threat is not limited to Hezbollah; back in 2006, according to an ISN, “Mexican authorities investigated the activities of the Murabitun [a da'wa, or missionary-outreach, organization named after historic jihadists along Spain's borders] due to reports of alleged immigration and visa abuses involving the group’s European members and possible radicals, including al-Qaeda.”
Even innocuous reports, such as this Muslim article, are cause for concern: “Today, most Mexican Islamic organizations focus on grassroots da’wa. These small organizations are most effective at the community level, going from village to village and speaking directly to the people.” Although this may not sound problematic, the strain of Islam being spread by many of these da’wa organizations is the radical, “Salafist,” anti-American variety. Here, for instance, is a popular Egyptian TV cleric saying that while Muslims must never smile to non-Muslims — who, as “infidels,” are by nature the enemy — they are free to do so if the Muslim is engaged in da’wa, trying to win over the infidel into the fold of Islam, especially if the potential convert can help empower Islam in any way.
These are but a few of the many reports on Islam in Mexico. The evidence that many Islamists in Mexico are plotting against the US, using all means — such as drug trafficking, which is not forbidden in Sharia law if it serves to empower Islam — is overwhelming.
Under various methods — from the violent to the subversive to the exploitative — Islam allows Muslims to lie and commit other duplicitous acts in the furtherance of Islam. Taqiyya [dissimulation] permits Hezbollah and other Islamists To engage in Mexico’s drug cartel, just as “pious” members of the Taliban in Afghanistan pursued the heroin trade. Aside from sheer violence, justified as “jihad,” or holy war, tactics pursued by Mexico’s Islamists include:
▪ Kidnappings and enslavement, for which Mexico is already notorious. Sharia permits kidnapping, and even enslaving the infidel, in this situation, any non-Muslim in Mexico. The Quran not only approves of this, but allows male jihadists to have sex with female captives of war (Sura 4, verse 3). Here, for example, is a Muslim politician trying to legalize the institution of “sex-slavery.”
▪ Extortion and blackmail, features of the Mexican landscape, are also permissible in Islam. According to Sharia, during jihad, Muslims are permitted to hold for ransom infidels to be sold back for large amounts of money. Here, for instance, is a popular Egyptian sheikh saying that the Islamic world’s problem is that it has stopped plundering and enslaving its infidel neighbors. He even boasts that under true Sharia, he could go to the local market and “buy” a female “sex-slave.”
In using subversive elements for da’wa, Muslims might comfortably use false arguments to turn Mexicans against their northern neighbors. They might, for instance, argue that Islam is a religion of “racial equality,” whereas Christianity is the “white man’s” religion, imposed on their ancestors by racist whites who sought to keep them “impoverished” beyond the border. Islamist strategies in Mexico amount to trying to win the unbelievers over to their side, whether through conversion or just cooperation. For those who refuse to cooperate, they are infidels to be used in any way that seems fit.

U.S. authorities are building a politically explosive case that Hezbollah, the Lebanese militant group, finances itself through a vast drug-smuggling network that links a Lebanese bank, a violent Mexican cartel and U.S. cocaine users.
Federal prosecutors Tuesday charged Ayman Joumaa, an accused Lebanese drug kingpin and Hezbollah financier, of smuggling tons of U.S.-bound cocaine and laundering hundreds of millions of dollars with the Zetas cartel of Mexico.
“Ayman Joumaa is one of top guys in the world at what he does: international drug trafficking and money laundering,” a U.S. anti-drug official said. “He has interaction with Hezbollah. There’s no indication that it’s ideological. It’s business.”
The indictment in Virginia results from a continuing investigation by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration targeting Hezbollah, which has a bloody history of terror attacks against the United States and Israel.
Now a powerful partner in Lebanon’s government, Hezbollah presents itself as a legitimate political party and rejects allegations of terrorism. But Tuesday’s case reflects increasing concern that Hezbollah and its ally, Iran’s intelligence service, are expanding their presence in Latin America as conflict with the West intensifies over Iran’s nuclear program.
Hezbollah allegedly uses the cocaine trade to develop revenue and build foreign networks, according to U.S., European and Israeli officials. In October, the Justice Department charged an Iranian-American resident of Texas and two Iranian intelligence officers with plotting to hire Mexican cartel gunmen to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington.
Acting in February under the Patriot Act, the U.S. Treasury Department publicly identified the Lebanese Canadian National bank of Beirut, Lebanon’s eighth-largest bank, as a “financial institution of primary money laundering concern” linked to Hezbollah. Authorities alleged that the bank facilitated the financing of Hezbollah by Joumaa, a 47-year-old businessman who speaks excellent Spanish and resided many years in Colombia. About eleven years ago, he shifted his base to Lebanon because of law enforcement pressure, according to U.S. anti-drug officials.
The DEA described him earlier this year as the hub of a sophisticated operation that has smuggled cocaine from South America to Africa and Europe, and laundered profits via money exchange houses, used-car businesses and other companies in the United States, Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia.
The indictment unveiled Tuesday focuses on a different piece of the puzzle: U.S.-bound cocaine trafficking.
Joumaa allegedly coordinated the smuggling of at least 85 tons of Colombian cocaine through Central America and Mexico in partnership with the Zetas, the brutal Mexican cartel founded by former commandos, according to the indictment. Between 1997 and 2010, Joumaa’s mafia laundered hundreds of millions of dollars for the Zetas and their Colombian and Venezuelan suppliers, regularly picking up southbound bulk cash shipments of $2 million to $4 million in Mexico City, the indictment says.
“Ayman Joumaa is accused of facilitating the shipments of huge amounts of cocaine for the United States while laundering the proceeds all over the globe,” said DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart. “According to information from sources, his alleged drug and money laundering activities facilitated numerous global drug-trafficking organizations, including the criminal activities of the Los Zetas Mexican drug cartel.”
Filed by the U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, the indictment does not mention Hezbollah. But U.S. officials say the alliance with the Zetas was part of the already targeted network linked to the Lebanese militant group.
“The indictment does not reflect all of the information that the government has,” said a Justice Department official. “It’s accurate that Treasury’s previous statement connected Mr. Joumaa to Hezbollah. The investigation is ongoing.”
Antidrug officials cautioned that the connection between Hezbollah and the Zetas is indirect, with Joumaa’s drug and money network as the hub that does business with both organizations.
“It’s not like there’s a sit-down between the leaders of Hezbollah and the Zetas,” one official said.
The investigation is politically sensitive because views of Hezbollah — and its alleged involvement in the drug trade — differ around the world and even in the U.S. government.
The Shiite militia killed hundreds of people in terror strikes in the 1980s and 1990s, from the car-bombing of the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut to attacks on Jewish targets in Argentina. In recent years, though, Hezbollah has curbed attacks outside of the Middle East, focusing on its bitter military struggle with Israel and growing role in Lebanese politics. The group is seen in Lebanon, the Arab world and parts of the West as a legitimate resistance organization.
As Iran pursues its nuclear ambitions, Hezbollah and Iran are locked in a worsening shadow conflict with the United States and Israel. This week, Hezbollah leaders claimed that they had identified clandestine CIA officers working in Lebanon.
International sanctions have hurt Iran, which helps fund, train and direct Hezbollah. As a result, antiterror officials say the militant group has relied more heavily on longtime ties to criminal rackets involving members of the far-flung Lebanese diaspora. The DEA has pursued several cases in which Hezbollah operatives allegedly teamed up with or taxed Lebanese-connected traffickers of South American cocaine.
The Joumaa case is the biggest so far. The network described in U.S. documents encompasses Joumaa relatives and associates who own money exchanges, stores and other businesses in Colombia, Panama, Lebanon, Benin and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Joumaa allegedly has overseen flows of cocaine from Colombia and Venezuela through two smuggling pipelines: north through Mexico to the United States and east through Africa to Europe and the Middle East.
The organization charged its partners in Mexico and elsewhere between 8 percent and 14 percent for using its sophisticated apparatus to launder the huge cash proceeds, the indictment says. It accuses Joumaa of laundering more than $250 million out of at least $850 million in drug-related proceeds.
“Hezbollah derived financial support from the criminal activities of Joumaa’s network,” says a Treasury Department document that laid out allegations about the Lebanese Canadian Bank in February. “Additionally, LCB managers are linked to Hezbollah officials outside Lebanon. For example, Hezbollah’s Tehran-based envoy Abdallah Safieddine is involved in Iranian officials’ access to LCB and key LCB managers, who provide them banking services.”
A money exchange house in Joumaa’s network used a branch of the Lebanese bank to deposit “bulk proceeds of drug sales” and then wire them to “U.S.-based used car dealers,” the document says. The cars were sold and sent to Africa in suspiciously structured transactions, U.S. officials say.
The Lebanese bank denied the U.S. charges in February. In the wake of the Treasury allegations, however, Lebanon’s Central Bank announced that a Lebanese subsidiary of Societe Generale would acquire the assets and liabilities of Lebanese Canadian Bank, which had 35 branches and $5 billion in assets.

The pro-democracy forces leader told Haaretz – an Israeli news agency, that one of the militia's first actions would be to seize control of the country's chemical warfare stockpile, which is thought to be one of the largest in the world and contains deadly chemical agents such as Sarin and the nerve agent VX.
“We have divided the aftermath into four periods with different priorities for each day. The first period is the first day, the first hours after Assad's control breaks down, and one of the priorities during those hours is taking control of the chemical weapons so they won't fall into the hands of terrorists," he said.
Meanwhile, another “unnamed diplomat", quoted by the UK Telegraph, said that in political circles, Western diplomats are expressing concerns about the stock of chemical weapons stored in Syria, which “can be misused and can reach to the terrorists if Assad's government failed to protect it.”
The source said Western troops might intervene in Syria if the collapse of Assad's government leaves the stock of chemical weapon vulnerable to terrorists.
"The thing that privately has got people very worried is chemical weapon stocks,” he emphasized.
The Telegraph quoted this upper-level diplomat as saying, "Were it to be the case that the regime did start to lose control of the security environment, and it looked as though it wasn't able to secure those sites, then that would be a ‘game-changer.”
However, the Syrian pro-democracy leader said the opposition forces know the locations of the chemical weapon stores and “we will be ready to move and secure them quickly,” he said.
“ I can't promise that nothing will be removed but we have our information and it is not so simple to move around chemical weapons," the Syrian opposition forces leader said.
A defector from the Syrian Army, the high-level official in the rebel militia justified his decision speak to the Israeli publication anonymously because the "countries are still officially at war."
He added that the large arsenal of chemical weapons held by the regime “is one of the matters the security committee has discussed.”
However, it is unclear whether he is speaking for a committee formed by the Syrian National Council (SNC), or the new group - critical of the SNC - that has met recently in Paris hoping to form a government in exile.
The Haaretz article said Israel has concerns that such weapons might fall into the hands of the Lebanese armed group of Hezbollah or other terror organizations.
Haaretz mentioned that the former officer interviewed had fought in Syria’s wars against Israel and still has connections to senior officers in the army, including many who have defected to the opposition Free Syrian Army or FSA.
He was quoted by the Israeli daily as saying that around a third of the Syrian armed forces have defected since the start of the uprising against Assad’s regime. “There are two kinds of defectors,” he said, “the majority, around 60,000, have simply run away, back to their homes, while some 30,000 have actively joined the opposition, mostly the Free Syrian Army, and are fighting.”
“These numbers are still not sufficient to topple the Assad regime as they are not organized in one command structure, but commanded by separate committees in each of Syria’s fourteen provinces. They also lack advanced weapons and missiles,” he said.
According to the Israeli daily, against the 30,000 soldiers in the FSA, the government still has a number of loyal troops, numbering around 70,000 soldiers.
In addition to those local forces loyal to the Syrian regime, Assad is receiving increased assistance from Iran, Hezbollah in Lebanon and from Iraqi fighters loyal to Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sadr, he said.
He added that “they have brought aerial drones that assist Assad’s forces with surveillance. They also opened up a slush fund with millions of dollars to help Assad buy more arms from the Russians.”
Haaretz quoted the Syrian officer as saying that in the past, the then-called “Soviet Union” sold Syria arms on credit, now they are demanding cash up-front on all arms deals and the money is coming from Tehran. Iran knows that if Assad falls, their entire power structure all the way to Hezbollah in Lebanon will also fall. But there is a limit to how much Iran will do to help Syria. They won’t send in army units to save him because they know this will be a cause for Israel to attack them.”
Coincidentally, the Iranian Student News Agency (ISNA) also published an interview this week with General Ismail Qa’ani, deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ “Quds Force”, praised his troops for crushing opposition forces in Syria — saying the Quds’ presence helped prevent civilian massacres.
In a rare admission by an Iranian official that Tehran was truly aiding the Damascus regime, Gha’ani added that Iran “had physically and non-physically stopped the rebels from killing many more among the Syrian people.”
The quote was later disappeared from ISNA’s website.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has also spoken out and publically voiced "revulsion" over the bloodshed in Syria.
The Israeli leader also accused Iran and its ally Hezbullah of being accomplices.
“He was revolted by the incessant massacres conducted by Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces against ... civilians ... which continued over the weekend in the town of Houla," a release from the Premier's office said.
"Iran and Hezbullah are an inseparable part of the Syrian atrocities, and the world needs to act against them too," Netanyahu said.
At least 108 people, more than a third of them children, were killed in the central Syrian town of Houla on Friday and Saturday, provoking international outrage.
Earlier this month, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Syrian President Bashar Assad's regime was "doomed" and that its ouster would be a "major blow" to Iran and Hezbullah, which is backed by Damascus and Tehran.
The United Nations estimates that around 9,000 people have been killed since the start of the uprising against President Assad in March 2011. Syrian rights groups put the number around 13,000.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Syrian rebels said they were holding a group of kidnapped Lebanese Shi'ite Muslim pilgrims, and accused some of the hostages of opposing their revolution against Syria's President Bashar al-Assad, news channel Al Jazeera reported on Thursday.
The insurgents added they would not start negotiations for the release of the hostages until the leader of Lebanese guerilla group Hezbollah, an ally of Assad's, apologized for a recent speech.
The rebel Revolutionary Council in Aleppo did not give any more details on their plans for the captives, or spell out what had offended them in the speech by Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.
The group of about a dozen Lebanese men was on a bus that was stopped by gunmen in the northern Syrian province of Aleppo earlier this month.
"During questioning it emerged that a group of them had a hand in (oppressing the revolt) so it was decided to keep them for a while," rebel group spokesman Abo Abdullah al-Halabi told Al Jazeera. The men were all in good health, he added.
Syria's president Assad, who belongs to an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam, has been trying to crush a 14-month revolt led by fighters from the country's Sunni Muslim majority.
There have been fears of the turmoil spilling over the border into neighboring Lebanon, also driven by sectarian tensions and divided between foes and friends of the revolt in Syria.
Upon hearing the news of their capture residents of the southern suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold where the hostages live, took to the streets in anger, burned tires and blocked roads.
Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah appealed for calm and in a speech said the kidnapping would not affect his group's allegiances in Syria.
Syrian rebels have accused Hezbollah of sending fighters to help Assad, a charge dismissed by Hezbollah.

For most of the past year, reports of Iran's attempts to recruit Latin American drug cartels and link them to Hezbollah in their undeclared war against the United States ran under the radar screen.
It is only been since October that the mainstream media has reported on Hezbollah's activities in the region seriously and in detail. The skeptics may say that it all has to do with the planned visit of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba and possibly Guatemala — a grand tour that began on Sunday.
The reports, however, indicate the links have been in place for years but it's been only recently that they have been discovered by U.S. authorities and the media in the United States.
The most widely publicized action came over the weekend when the U.S. State Department ordered Livia Acosta Noguera, Venezuela's consul general in Miami, to leave the country in 72 hours. This came only a few weeks after the Spanish language television station Univision broadcast what it said were "taped conversations with Acosta" in which, while previously serving in Mexico, she asked an alleged Mexican hacker for access codes to nuclear facilities in the United States.
The allegations against Acosta Noguera came as part of an Univision documentary depicting what it called Iran's terrorist activities in Latin America.
This episode, however, has not been the only case. Other major media outlets have recently detailed cases of Hezbollah's activities in the hemisphere.
Last October, the Christian Science Monitor chronicled the alleged plot by Iranian agents to hire a Mexican drug trafficker to assassinate the Saudi Ambassador to the United States. In its story, the newspaper stated that the discovery of this plot reignited the debate over Iran's intentions in Latin America.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the Associated Press back then that the foiled plot "creates a potential for international reaction that will . . . raise questions about what they're up to, not only in the United States and Mexico."
In another case, also in October, prosecutors in Virginia unsealed an indictment charging a Lebanese man, Ayman Joumaa, with smuggling 100 tons of Colombian cocaine with Los Zetas, a Mexican drug cartel.
And in December, the New York Times said President Barack Obama's administration accused one of Lebanon's most-secretive banks of laundering money for international cocaine ring with ties to the Shite militant group Hezbollah.
These are but some of the highlights of the published facts. From them, analysts know that while the United States may be trying to further isolate Iran with economic sanctions in its own backyard, Iran has close allies in the hemisphere. Allies like Venezuela's Hugo Chávez, Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega, Ecuador's Rafael Correa, the Castro brothers in Cuba and Evo Morales in Bolivia. Iran also had close ties with Brazil under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, but relations between the two countries have cooled off since Dilma Rouseff became president.
Some, like Eric Farnsworth, vice president of the Council of the Americas, sees the growing Iranian presence in Latin America as an indication that it will be harder to impose tough economic sanctions since there will be so many countries willing to ignore them.
"It allows you to say with some justification that the whole world is not against you," Farnsworth told the CSM.
Former Assistant Secretary of State Roger Noriega went further. In a blog, he said that Iran has at least two parallel terrorist networks in Latin America and that together they have more than 80 operatives in at least 12 countries throughout the region. They have established close ties with the Mexican drug cartels along the U.S. border.
At this time, Washington is paying most attention to announcements coming from Iran about how it might close the Strait of Hormuz and about how it has a new site to enrich uranium that might be used to build a nuclear bomb.
Yet, little is said about the dangers we face from ties between Hezbollah and drug dealers in our hemisphere, right next to our unguarded border.
"This tour of tyrants by Ahmadinejad is the most recent example of the expansion of Iranian influence in Latin America," said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Miami, who chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
Let's keep our eyes and ears open. The danger may be closer than we think.

The job numbers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics are out and they don't look good. The unemployment rate has gone up from 8.1 percent to 8.2 percent with the economy adding just 69,000 jobs in May after economists predicted the economy would add at least 150,000 jobs. That's a significant shortfall. Not to mention, this percentage doesn't include those who have given up looking for work. The labor participation rate sits at 63.8 percent, meaning 36.2 percent are not participating or actively looking for work. Job growth has also been deemed as slowed and long term unemployment is still a major problem.UPDATE: Romney reacts:

i/kælɨˈfɔrnjə/) is a state located on the West Coast of the United States. It is by far the most populous U.S. state,[10] and the third most extensive (after Alaska and Texas). It is home to the nation's second- and sixth-largest census statistical areas (Los Angeles Metropolitan Area and San Francisco Bay Area), and eight of the nation's fifty most populated cities (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Jose, San Francisco, Fresno, Sacramento, Long Beach and Oakland).[11]The capital city is Sacramento.California's diverse geography ranges from the Pacific Coast in the west, to the Sierra Nevada mountains in the east – from the Redwood–Douglas-fir forests of the northwest, to the Mojave Desert areas in the southeast. The name California once referred to a large area of North America claimed by Spain that included much of modern-day Southwestern United States and the Baja California peninsula. Beginning in the late 18th century, the area known as Alta California, comprising the California territory north of the Baja Peninsula, was colonized by theSpanish Empire as part of New Spain. In 1821, Alta California became a part ofMexico following its successful war for independence. Shortly after the beginning of the Mexican-American War in 1846, a group of American settlers in Sonoma declared an independent California Republic in Alta California. Though its existence was short-lived, its flag became the precursor for California's current state flag. American victory in the war led to the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, in which Mexico ceded Alta California to the United States. Western areas of Alta California became the state of California, which was admitted as the 31st state on September 9, 1850.
The California Gold Rush beginning in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic change, with large scale immigration from the U.S. and abroad and an accompanying economic boom. Key developments in the early 20th century included the emergence of Los Angeles as the center of the American entertainment industry, and the growth of a large, state-wide tourism sector. The late 20th century saw the development of the technology and information sectors, punctuated by the growth of Silicon Valley. California's prosperous agricultural industry also emerged; at least half of the fresh fruit produced in the United States are now cultivated in California, and the state also leads in the production of vegetables.[13] Other important contributors to its economy include aerospace, education, and manufacturing. If California were a country, it would be theeighth-largest economy in the world[14] and the 34th most populous nation.

Were California an independent country, its gross domestic product would be ranked between eighth and eleventh in the world.[80]
As of 2010, the gross state product (GSP) is about $1.9 trillion, the largest in the United States.[81] California is responsible for 13 percent of the United States' gross domestic product (GDP). As of 2006, California's GDP is larger than all but eight countries in the world (all but eleven countries by Purchasing Power Parity). In terms of taxation and regulations, workforce quality, and living environment, Chief Executive Group has ranked the state as the worst place to do business in the United States.[82]In terms of jobs, the five largest sectors in California are trade, transportation, and utilities; government; professional and business services; education and health services; and leisure and hospitality. In terms of output, the five largest sectors are financial services, followed by trade, transportation, and utilities; education and health services; government; and manufacturing.[83]
California currently has the 5th highest unemployment rate in the nation at 12.5% as of January 2010 and had continued to rise, up significantly from 5.9% in 2007.[84][85]
California's economy is very dependent on trade and international related commerce accounts for approximately one-quarter of the state’s economy. In 2008, California exported $144 billion worth of goods, up from $134 billion in 2007 and $127 billion in 2006.[86]Computers and electronic products are California's top export, accounting for 42 percent of all the state's exports in 2008.[86]
Agriculture is an important sector in California's economy. Farming-related sales more than quadrupled over the past three decades, from $7.3 billion in 1974 to nearly $31 billion in 2004.[87] This increase has occurred despite a 15 percent decline in acreage devoted to farming during the period, and water supply suffering from chronic instability. Factors contributing to the growth in sales-per-acre include more intensive use of active farmlands and technological improvements in crop production.[87] In 2008, California's 81,500 farms and ranches generated $36.2 billion products revenue.[88]
Per capita GDP in 2007 was $38,956, ranking eleventh in the nation.[89] Per capita income varies widely by geographic region and profession. The Central Valley is the most impoverished, with migrant farm workers making less than minimum wage. Recently, the San Joaquin Valley was characterized as one of the most economically depressed regions in the U.S., on par with the region ofAppalachia.[90] Many coastal cities include some of the wealthiest per-capita areas in the U.S. The high-technology sectors in Northern California, specifically Silicon Valley, in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, have emerged from the economic downturn caused by the dot-com bust.
In 2010, there were more than 663,000 millionaires in the state, more than any other state in the nation.[91]

California levies a 9.3 percent maximum variable rate income tax, with six tax brackets, collecting about $40 billion per year (representing approximately 51% of General Fund revenue and 40% of tax revenue overall in FY2007).[92] California has a state sales tax of 8.25%, which can total up to 10.75% with local sales tax included.[93] All real property is taxable annually, the tax based on the property's fair market value at the time of purchase or completion of new construction. Property tax increases are capped at 2% per year (seeProposition 13).
However, California is facing a $26.3 billion budget deficit for the 2009–2010 budget year.[94]While the legislative bodies appeared to address the problem in 2008 with the three-month delayed passage of a budget they in fact only postponed the deficit to 2009 and due to thelate 2008 decline in the economy and the credit crisis the problem became urgent in November 2008.
One potential problem is that a substantial portion of the state's income comes from income taxes on a small proportion of wealthy citizens. For example, it is estimated that in 2004 the richest 3% of state taxpayers (those with tax returns showing over $200,000 in yearly income) paid approximately 60% of state income taxes.[95] The taxable income of this population is highly dependent upon capital gains, which has been severely impacted by the stock market declines of this period. The governor has proposed a combination of extensive program cuts and tax increases to address this problem, but owing to longstanding problems in the legislature these proposals are likely to be difficult to pass as legislation.
State spending increased from $56 billion in 1998 to $131 billion in 2008, and the state was facing a budget deficit of $40 billion in 2008.[96] California is facing another budget gap for 2010,[97] with $72 billion in debt.[98] California faces a massive and still-growing debt.[99]
In 2009 the California economic crisis became severe as the state faced insolvency.[100][dated info] In June 2009 Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said "Our wallet is empty, our bank is closed and our credit is dried up."[101] He called for massive budget cuts of $24 billion, about 1⁄4 of the state's budget.[101] California, with 12% of the U.S. population, has one-third of the nation's welfare recipients.[102]

Main article: Energy use in California
Because it is the most populous U.S. state, California is one of the country's largest users of energy. However because of its mild weather and strong environmental movement, its per capita energy use is one of the smallest of any U.S. state.[103] Due to the high electricity demand, California imports more electricity than any other state, primarily hydroelectric power from states in the Pacific Northwest (via Path 15 and Path 66) and coal- and natural gas-fired production from the desert Southwest via Path 46.[104]
As a result of the state's strong environmental movement, California has the some of the most aggressive renewable energy goals in the United States, with a target for California to obtain a third of its electricity from renewables by 2020.[105] Currently, several solar power plants such as the Solar Energy Generating Systems facility are located in the Mojave Desert. California's wind farms include Altamont Pass, San Gorgonio Pass, and Tehachapi Pass. And a number of dams across the state also provide hydro-electric power.
The state’s crude oil and natural gas deposits are located in the Central Valley and along the coast, including the large Midway-Sunset Oil Field. Natural gas-fired power plants typically account for more than one-half of State electricity generation.
California is also home to two major nuclear power plants: Diablo Canyon and San Onofre. However, voters banned the approval of new nuclear power plants since the late 1970s because of concerns over radioactive waste disposal.[106][note 3] In addition, several cities such as Oakland, Berkeley and Davis have declared themselves as nuclear-free zones.

Crime in the city of Los Angeles has been a major problem in Southern California and a concern for Angelenos since the early 20th century. Los Angeles is informally known as the "Gang Capital of the Nation".
In the city of Los Angeles, crime rates are currently about the same. However while most cities in the L.A. area have shown a constant decrease of criminal activities over the recent years, some surrounding cities in the county such asLancaster,[citation needed] Palmdale[citation needed] and Long Beach[1] have shown some increase in crime in 2008.
In the first half of 2008, Los Angeles reports 198 homicides - which corresponds to a rate of 9.6 (per 100,000 population) - a major decrease from 1993, when the all time homicide rate of over 21.1 (per 100,000 population) was reported for the year.[2] This included 15 officer-involved shootings. One shooting led to a SWAT team member's death, Randal Simmons, the first in LAPD's history.[3]
