Fox News has chronicled how the Al Entisar, a Libyan-flagged vessel carrying 400 tons of cargo, docked on Sept. 6 in the Turkish port of Iskenderun. It reportedly supplied both humanitarian assistance and arms — including deadly SA-7 man-portable surface-to-air missiles — apparently destined for Islamists, again including al Qaeda elements, in Syria.

Tunisia: Libya consulate attack suspect arrested

TUNIS, TUNISIAA Tunisian man who was arrested in Turkey earlier this month with reported links to the attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya has been returned to Tunisia and is facing terrorism charges, his lawyer said Wednesday.
Ali Harzi was repatriated to Tunisia on Oct. 11 by authorities in Turkey, and a judge issued his arrest warrant, lawyer Ouled Ali Anwar told The Associated Press. He said his client was told by a judge Tuesday that he has been charged with "membership of a terrorist organization in a time of peace in another country."
A person who saw Harzi's court dossier told The Associated Press that prosecutors are linking him to the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi that left Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans dead.
He said Harzi is one of two Tunisians arrested Oct. 3 in Turkey when they tried to enter the country with false passports. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information. Harzi's alleged role in the attacks is not clear.
Meanwhile, a U.S. government official told CBS News that American investigators are in possession of some of the security camera video footage recorded during the attack. The official said the footage is of decent quality and investigators are reviewing it.
CBS News correspondent Margaret Brennan reports that the State Department has footage from 10 cameras. The FBI obtained the footage from Libyans who removed it from the consulate compound days after the attack. The footage was recorded on non-infrared cameras and isn't complete.
Anwar denied there was any evidence that Ali "is implicated in the Benghazi attacks." He added his client was not using a fake passport, saying he was used as a "scapegoat to satisfy the Americans."
Earlier this month, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said the U.S. has been looking into the arrests of two Tunisian men being detained in Turkey reportedly in connection with the attack. The State Department in Washington had no further comment on Wednesday.
Tunisian Interior Ministry spokesman Tarrouch Khaled confirmed that Harzi was in custody in Tunis. Khaled told The Associated Press "his case is in the hands of justice," but he would not elaborate further on the case.
The charge against Harzi is punishable by six to 12 years in prison, according to the provisions of the anti-terrorist law in force in Tunisia since 2003.
His arrest comes less than a week after a Libyan Islamist militia commander who a witness and officials say helped lead the deadly assault said that he was at the building that night, but denied he was involved in the attack.
On Thursday, Ahmed Abu Khattala, who describes himself as a founder and commander of the Islamist militia Abu Obaida Bin Jarrah, told The Associated Press by telephone that he went to the consulate to rescue men that he had been informed were trapped inside.
Abu Khattala said that, despite reports of his involvement, he was going about his daily business as a construction contractor in Benghazi.
A Libyan witness interviewed in the aftermath of the attack by the AP said that Abu Khattala was present directing fighters. The witness spoke anonymously for fear of retaliation.
An AP reporter was also shown a camera photo of a long-haired, long-bearded man who was wearing the Afghan-style robe favored by many radicals and whom other Benghazi residents identified as the 41-year-old militia leader. The consulate's gate with barbed wire could be seen in the background.
The New York Times has quoted unnamed Libyan officials as singling out Abu Khattala as a commander in the attack, calling him a leader in the hardline Islamist Ansar al-Shariah militia. Other Libyan witnesses say they saw Ansar al-Shariah trucks mounted with heavy weapons outside the consulate the night of the attack.

Emails paint picture of Benghazi attack

On Tuesday, CBS News obtained three email alerts that were put out by the State Department as the attack unfolded.
The third, sent at 6:07 p.m. ET -- roughly two hours after the initial attack began -- contained the subject line "Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibilty for Benghazi Attack."
The overlap between Abu Obaida Bin Jarrah and Ansar al-Shariah is not clear. Libya's rebel council moved to disband Abu Obaida Bin Jarrah after the July 2011 assassination of rebel army chief Abdel Fattah Younis, a killing blamed on the Islamist group. Some militiamen say Abu Obaida Bin Jarrah fighters joined Ansar al-Shariah, which rose to prominence during fighting later in the war and was entrusted with security in post-war Benghazi.
In Abu Khattala's account of the night, he was informed by phone that there was a protest at the building and that four men were trapped inside. He and his men went there to rescue them.
Abu Khattala declined to explain further how and why he was called upon to go to the site. Libya's government lacks a strong army and police force and has relied on militias, including in the past Ansar al-Shariah, to keep order.

Today, at the White House press gaggle, Jay Carney was asked one – really, just one – question about the emails regarding the terrorist attack in Benghazi. Those emails, to refresh, showed that within two hours of the attacks, the White House had been informed that the action on the ground was a terrorist attack. There was no mention of a YouTube video or a spontaneous demonstration in the emails.

Carney acknowledged today not only that the White House knew, but that it knew “instantaneously”:
The email you’re referring to was an open-source, unclassified email referring to an assertion made on a social media site that everyone in this room had access to and knew about instantaneously.
Instantaneously. Yet the Obama administration claimed for weeks that they were giving Americans the best available information.

It might be more accurate to describe the effect of the well-planned and -executed, military-style attack on a diplomatic facility there as the political equivalent of a devastating improvised explosive device on the myth of the unassailability of the Obama record as commander in chief.
Thanks to intrepid investigative reporting — notably by Bret Baier and Catherine Herridge at Fox News, Aaron Klein at WND.com and Clare Lopez at RadicalIslam.org — and information developed by congressional investigators, the mystery is beginning to unravel with regard to what happened that night and the reason for the subsequent, clumsy official cover-up now known as Benghazigate.
The evidence suggests that the Obama administration has not simply been engaging, legitimating, enriching and emboldening Islamists who have taken over or are ascendant in much of the Middle East. Starting in March 2011, when American diplomat J. Christopher Stevens was designated the liaison to the “opposition” in Libya, the Obama administration has been arming them, including jihadists like Abdelhakim Belhadj, leader of the al Qaeda franchise known as the Libyan Islamic Fighting Group.

Once Moammar Gadhafi was overthrown, Stevens was appointed ambassador to the new Libya run by Mr. Belhadj and his friends. Not surprisingly, one of the most important priorities for someone in that position would be to try to find and secure the immense amount of armaments that had been cached by the dictator around the country and systematically looted during and after the revolution.
One of the places in Libya most awash with such weapons in the most dangerous of hands is Benghazi. It now appears that Stevens was there — on a particularly risky day, with no security to speak of and despite now copiously documented concerns about his own safety and that of his subordinates — for another priority mission: sending arms recovered from the former regime’s stocks to the “opposition” in Syria. As in Libya, the insurgents are known to include al Qaeda and other Shariah-supremacist groups, including none other than Abdelhakim Belhadj.

What cries out for further investigation — and debate in the remaining days of this presidential election — is whether this shipment was part of a larger covert Obama effort to transfer weapons to our enemies that could make the Iran-Contra scandal, to say nothing of Operation Fast and Furious, pale by comparison.
Investigative journalist Aaron Klein has reported that the “consulate in Benghazi” actually was no such thing. He observes that although administration officials have done nothing to correct that oft-repeated characterization of the facility where the murderous attack on Stevens and his colleagues was launched, they call it a “mission.” What Mr. Klein describes as a “shabby, nondescript building” that lacked any “major public security presence” was, according to an unnamed Middle Eastern security official, “routinely used by Stevens and others to coordinate with the Turkish, Saudi and Qatari governments on supporting the insurgencies in the Middle East, most prominently the rebels opposing Assad’s regime in Syria.”
We know that Stevens‘ last official act was to hold such a meeting with an unidentified “Turkish diplomat.” Presumably, the conversation involved additional arms shipments to al Qaeda and its allies in Syria. It also may have involved getting more jihadi fighters there. After all, Mr. Klein reported last month that, according to sources in Egyptian security, our ambassador was playing a “central role in recruiting jihadists to fight Bashar al-Assad’s regime in Syria.”
It gets worse. Last week, Center for Security Policy senior fellow and former career CIA officer Clare Lopez observed that there were two large warehouse-type buildings associated with the so-called “consulate” whose purpose has yet to be disclosed. As their contents were raided in the course of the attack, we may never know for sure whether they housed — and were known by the local jihadis to house — arms, perhaps administered by the two former Navy SEALs killed along with Stevens.
What we do know is that the New York Times — one of the most slavishly pro-Obama publications in the country — reported in an Oct. 14 article, “Most of the arms shipped at the behest of Saudi Arabia and Qatar to supply Syrian rebel groups fighting the government of Bashar Assad are going to hard-line Islamic jihadists, and not the more secular opposition groups that the West wants to bolster.”

In short, it seems President Obama has been engaged in gun-walking on a massive scale. The effect has been to equip America’s enemies to wage jihad not only against regimes it once claimed were our friends, but inevitably against us and our allies as well. That would explain his administration’s desperate and now failing bid to mislead the voters through the serial deflections of Benghazigate.

It’s now been 42 days and Obama continues to say, “we were going to hunt down whoever did it and bring them to justice.”
A reporter from the New York Times and Fox News reporter Greg Palkot both found one of the key suspects, who was seen in the video of the terrorist attack…SITTING IN A CAFÉ…SIPPING ON A STRAWBERRY FRAPPE…and laughing at Obama and the United States.
Yesterday, Hillary Clinton spoke regarding the emails which indicated Ansar al-Sharia, a known al Qaeda affiliate, had claimed responsibility on a Facebook post and said: “Posting something on Facebook is not in and of itself evidence.”
Yet, for 2 weeks…In front of the caskets of the 4 dead Americans…On the U.N. podium…From the White House Briefing Room and from 5 separate Sunday shows…IT WAS A-OK TO BLAME THE BENGHAZI ATTACK ON A…YOU TUBE VIDEO?????

The answer or answers seem clear.
234 red flag warnings ignored because politically, Libya was supposed to be a shining example of the success of Obama’s “lead from behind” strategy.
Numerous attempts from heads of security to increase or keep current security levels ignored because, politically, to publicly admit Libya or Benghazi was deteriorating into a haven for al Qaeda would not fit the Obama narrative that al Qaeda was on their heels.
During the attack, moving military elements into Benghazi would have exposed the false narrative and the false claim that Libya was an Obama success.
After the attack…All of the above…The ignoring of the red flag warnings, ignoring pleas for added security, and not doing everything possible militarily to beat back the attackers or rescue our personnel, would have pointed to a known threat of terrorism and it’s devastating conclusion being shoved aside for purely political reasons therefore…Blame it on a video and call it a “spontaneous” event.
The strategy…Ride it out for a few weeks until after the election and throw anybody under the bus except Obama…Susan Rice…Hillary Clinton…The State Department…The Intell Community…James Clapper…Jay Carney…Anybody but Obama.
Blame Romney for “shooting first and aiming later”…Blame Romney for keeping this in the news for political reasons…
This was orchestrated by the Obama Campaign Administration. Do anything, say anything, blame anything or anyone other than Obama…Keep the candidate out of it…ride it out until after the election…Paint Romney as the war monger…Then the campaign…The Obama puppet masters can make Obama look tough…After the election we’ll get to the bottom of it…after the election we’ll go after the terrorists…after the election.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Two hours after the U.S. Consulate came under attack in Benghazi, Libya, the White House was told that a militant group was claiming responsibility for the violence that killed the U.S. ambassador and three other Americans.
A State Department email sent to intelligence officials and the White House situation room said the Islamist group Ansar al-Sharia claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter, and also called for an attack on the U.S. Embassy in Tripoli.
The document may fuel Republican efforts to show that the White House knew it was a terrorist attack, even as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations was saying — five days afterward — that it appeared to be a protest gone awry.
The Obama administration's account of the Benghazi events has become a campaign issue, with Republican challenger Mitt Romney and GOP lawmakers accusing the White House of misleading Americans about the nature of the attack. But militant groups often surface after such attacks claiming responsibility and it's difficult to immediately verify such claims.
The Associated Press and other news organizations obtained the unclassified email and two related emails from government officials who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about them publicly.
The House and Senate committees that oversee intelligence received a raft of documents from the Office of Director of National Intelligence on Monday, two congressional aides said. Congressional staffers combing through the documents have found a kaleidoscope of sometimes conflicting intelligence, backing up much of what intelligence officials explained over the past several weeks.
But members of both committees are still complaining that the original briefing they were given just after the Tuesday, Sept. 11 attack, differed markedly from the explanation the CIA director David Petraeus gave them by the end of that week. In that first briefing, just 12 hours after consulate was burned down, the intelligence committees received a report that it was a military style assault, but just days later, Petraeus stressed that militants had infiltrated a mob, a U.S. official said.
U.S. intelligence officials have said Petraeus outlined that extremists were believed to be in the crowd, and carried out the attack, and also stressed the picture was still evolving.
A U.S. intelligence official said Wednesday that it was "clear from the outset that a group of people gathered that evening" but that it took until the week after the attack to determine "whether extremists took over a crowd or if the guys who showed up were all militants." The official said the briefing included the analysis that the "attacks that appeared spontaneous," but also mentioned possible links to regional al-Qaida groups.
Meanwhile, the Tunisian government said it has arrested a 28-year-old Tunisian linked to the U.S. Consulate attack. Interior Ministry spokesman Tarrouch Khaled said Wednesday that the suspect, Ali Harzi, was in custody in Tunis. Khaled told the AP "his case is in the hands of justice," but did not elaborate.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton said Wednesday that the review board she appointed to investigate the attack is "looking at everything," rather than "cherry picking one story here or one document there."
White House press secretary Jay Carney said the emails represented just one piece of information the administration was receiving at the time.
"There were emails about all sorts of information that was becoming available in the aftermath of the attack," Carney said. "The whole point of an intelligence community and what they do is to assess strands of information and make judgments about what happened and who is responsible."
Carney, traveling with President Barack Obama Wednesday on Air Force One, said the emails were unclassified and referred to assertions made on a social media site.
There were a series of three emails sent by State Department officials in Washington as events unfolded on Sept. 11. Among the recipients was the White House situation room.
The first email said that the State Department's regional security officer reported the mission in Benghazi was under attack, and that "20 armed people fired shots." It said that Ambassador Chris Stevens, who was killed in the attack, was in Benghazi, and that Stevens and four others were in the compound's safe haven.
Forty-nine minutes later, an email said that the firing at the consulate "has stopped and the compound has been cleared," while a response team was attempting to locate people.
The next message, one hour and 13 minutes after the second and some two hours after the attack began, a message reported that Ansar-al-Sharia claimed responsibility for the attack.
"Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Faceboook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli," it said.
Nearly six hours after the initial attack, a State Department memo said the shelter location for the Americans was receiving mortar fire and "there are reports of injuries."
Ansar al-Sharia bragged to members of al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb that it was responsible for the attack, according to recordings of phone calls intercepted by U.S. intelligence. But the group has publicly denied having anything to do with the attack.
Clinton, speaking to reporters at the State Department, said, "You know, posting something on Facebook is not in and of itself evidence and I think it just underscores how fluid the reporting was at the time and continued some time to be."
She added, "What I keep in mind is that four brave Americans were killed and we will find out what happened, we will take whatever measures are necessary to fix anything that needs to be fixed and we will bring those to justice who committed these murders."

With the prior Impeachment Order functioning as a six month restraining order, with an injunction sought in May, and the restriction of veto power and authority in July, midnight tonight marks 90 days since Obama has continued to advance his interests through Senate Democrats, the long arm of Joe Biden, or manipulate previously passed legislation and budgetary matters to his liking through exacting executive orders on previously passed legislation, violating the original Impeachment Order provisions in place since January.  

The primary purpose for filing the Impeachment Order was lack of provable citizenship, though it became very clear that other matters of integrity of Office emerged:

For this reason, it was absolutely imperative that Obama be restrained from abusing his power. Obama, however, continued to manipulate budgetary matters through the State Department, to serve his own special interests in Libya, and in doing so, damaged Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s abilities to bring Libya fully into a cooperative partner with the United States.

Not only this, but Obama abused his authority and position with Ambassador Chris Stevens; wherein this Embassy was used as a transfer location for Syrian Arms funded unknowingly and not approved by taxpayers, without even the knowledge and approval of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Abuse of foreign aid appropriations and appropriations for security were compromised to sustain these goals of armament, outside the knowledge and approval of Congress. While Libya requested more security 13 times, only a month prior to the 9/11/12 attack were we warned by watchful countries that the United States was arming Syria in some fashion.


Presuming that this was CIA activity, which we are neither privy to or their accounting detailed to us unless they choose, the search for where this was taking place began being investigated. Planes were checked in Iraq, but apparently those involved were the only ones who knew the Libyan Safe House was being used as a stash house for weapons. Thirty days after the fact, this criminal activity was confirmed by Syrians saying that they had not received weapons 30 days later, and that they were buying weapons from Al Qaeda.

On 9/9/12, active intelligence indicated an assassination plot on Assad, and at that time, we undoubtedly witnessed the Syrian Revolution being hijacked by Al Qaeda’s profession to have aspirations to take Syria for itself. With the impending memorial recognition on 9/11/12, we were well aware that something could take place, though we were unsure where and exactly what and who it would involve. With Obama’s abuse of power, flagrant violation of proper authority that had been restricted already, and unlawful means of armament not designated even by Congress, Obama engaged in doing these prohibited acts. Obama’s best friend was killed trying to protect Obama’s reputation, and we lost nearly 10 lives in 30 days as a result of compromised integrity and negligence of duty.

Yet the manner in which this occurred, unbeknownst to Congress, is a disgusting display of breaching the trust of the American people: the Joint Continuing Resolution agreed to by the House and Senate was over-scored $400 billion more than the annual $2.5 trillion projected revenue, as no agreement had been made for the expiration of Bush Tax Cuts, that would have projected revenue of $3.5 trillion. Senator Inouye was contacted in regards to the overscoring, for which approval was given, based on rectifying cuts and Congress’ salary issues.

Only after the measure was approved, were taxpayers told that this $400 billion was actually Obamacare remuneration, appropriated for preventive services, and that this would be automatically cut monthly over the next six months, for whatever amounts were not used for the term of the Joint Continuing Resolution.

This was only part of the story: in order to get the budget deal, security was cut in Libya to cover Congressional salaries and this budget deal, into the next fiscal year.

Therefore, Obama violated the Impeachment Order in place since 1-1-12, the Injunction filed 5-11-12, and went around the restriction of veto power and authority filed 7-23-12 that designated Vice President Biden with signature authority to declare war, along with the counsel and signatory power of Senator John McCain and Senator John Kerry respectively.

As of 10-21-12, Obama is to cease and desist all forms of military related command and budgetary matters, until the conclusion of the investigation by Darrell Issa or the election 11-6-12, whichever comes first.

During this time, if Obama makes any administrative decisions, he will be taken to court. At this time, Congress is considering a five year prison sentence for any criminal wrongdoing related to weaponry, and other charges as appropriate that are being investigated by the FBI.

May this stand as a valid declaration that Obama has been totally relieved of command, and Obama can not be reinstated by an election, without a court order that he has been found not to have been violating the integrity of Office.

“I would have used the exact same expression if I had been writing about President Carter, whose foreign policy rivaled Obama’s in its ineptitude, or about the Nixon administration, which was also famously rocked by a cover-up,” Palin wrote on Facebook on Wednesday night.

Palin joined other conservatives who have slammed the Obama administration’s handling of the attacks at U.S. posts overseas, saying the administration blamed the attacks on an anti-Islam video trailer instead of terrorism. Tuesday, Reuters reported that members of the Obama administration and State Department officials knew two hours after the attacks that an Islamic militant group took credit for the attack.
CNN contributor Roland Martin said in 2008 after the phrase was used by then-New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo that it was a “negative assessment” of African-Americans, writing: “’Shucking and jiving’ have long been words used as a negative assessment of African Americans, along the lines of a ‘foot shufflin’ Negro.’ In fact, I don’t recall ever hearing the phrase used in reference to anyone white.”
According to Urban Dictionary: “To shuck and jive originally referred to the intentionally misleading words and actions that African-Americans would employ in order to deceive racist Euro-Americans in power, both during the period of slavery and afterwards. The expression was documented as being in wide usage in the 1920s, but may have originated much earlier.”
White House press secretary Carney used the term during a Sept. 7, 2011, press briefing after he brought out the wrong notebook, Real Clear Politics reported. “Sorry, I’m going to shuck and jive,” Carney said. “Time to shuck and jive.”

Matthews said on “Hardball” on Wednesday that Palin’s remark was an “ethnic shot” that was “pretty blatant.”
“Shuck and jive has a particular ethnic connection, not necessarily bad in all cases. It’s sort of slang. It doesn’t mean evil but to throw it at the president as an ethnic shot is pretty blatant,” Matthews said.
Matthews had used the term in 2010 while talking to MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow about the war in Afghanistan.
“What has it been like, as you shuck and jive, hang out with the men over there, the women over there, in uniform risking their lives every day? How is the reaction to you, Rachel Maddow?”Matthews said at the time, according to a show transcript.

In honor of United Nations Day 10-24-12, the United States would like to recognize the Sovereignty of Iran and recognition of petition for nuclear armament:

A promise was made to Iran by the Obama Administration that has not been kept regarding negotiations and Obama has also undermined the Integrity of Presidential Office in providing arms to Syrian Rebels.
Despite this, the task of keeping peace is relegated to being the duty of the American people, to not break faith with the free world, who aims to pursue peace whenever possible.

Sanctions have never been effective to deter Iran’s pursuance of nuclear armament for two reasons:
1) Sanctions have served to antagonize and delay open and mediated negotiations as promised.
2) The recent assassination of Security Chief Al Hassan poses serious risks to all Middle Eastern government officials, with twelve major identifiable Al Qaeda branch militias sprouting from the dead stump after a decade of War in various countries.

For this reason, rhetoric and emotions can no longer be an impasse to true negotiation. With evidence provided by Iran, that has demonstrated energy independence and experimental cancer research, we must respect Iran’s sovereignty, and Iran’s right to adequate defense. When dealing with our own budget issues and strained relationship to the Chinese, it must be noted that sanctions have only spread our economic pain to Middle Eastern governments, causing them to be weaker and have less ability to deal with terrorism in their own country.

Attacking a nation’s currency is a subversive act that paves a path to war. A safer Iran is a safer Middle East, and thus, a safer world. Ahmadinejad’s commitment individually on the Global Counterterrorism Council goes beyond the initial political rift created by Obama. Sharing perspectives and information has given rise to discussion, where before it only took place between P5+1.

Iran, despite the rhetoric, is very reserved when it comes to what it perceives to be acts of provocation. Neither country should have to resort to spy games and the inconvenience of attacking computers or covert acts of war, when negotiation was never used and simply lauded for politics.

Several examples of back and forth retaliation were high oil prices with Iran refusing to negotiate oil prices or enrichment programs, without pre-conditioned unconditional negotiations. Iran was then attacked by the Stuxnet Virus. Iran then retaliated through spy organizations or terrorist groups to attack US banks, which promptly turned into another cyber attack on Saudi distributors, with Iraq bailing on meeting the oil demand and lowering prices.

By engaging us in a sanction war, Obama has embroiled our economy as the EU insists we continue, for the EURO and their profits off shorts. Iran was counseled on currency and trade issues, and an offer of trade and rescinding sanctions for peace was broached.

The main issue and purpose of this document is to record a historical account of events, rather than a political or journalistic rendering.

May this declaration and recognition of Iran’s petition for nuclear armament serve as a reference point for the start of negotiations that had not occurred for various reasons.

Beginning 10-26-12, let there be peace between the United States and Iran, as Iran buys ⅓ of our grain sustaining our nation’s agriculture sector, and we are Iran’s best customer when it comes to oil consumption. Let us not continue sanctions to the collective ruin of our economies and detriment of our people.

There is enough war-making in the world than to make enemies carelessly, or to continue allowing words spoken in haste and anger to direct relations and dictate actions. We may revisit this agreement in a year or due to an act of war, but the accusations of hegemony must be put to rest and imperialism of either country duly spurned.

Over 30 days have passed since Iran should have signed the security agreement on 9-20-12, that they would not sign without these important acknowledgements and public recognitions of their sovereignty and petition for armament.

The concern over escalating rhetoric can be put down this day, if Iran fully complies with inspectors. Failure to adequately secure nuclear technology which could be sold to terrorists or traded to Russia will invalidate this agreement and revoke provisions of peace and trade.

I pray sincerely a new American Administration treat Iran fairly in its political dealings and with the respect Iran deserves to pursue what is best for Iran, as long as it is not at the expense of others or in expedience of religious differences.

May we see Iran as a partnership worth cultivating in the Middle East than using sanctions in place of negotiation foddering an eminent state of war.

Um Ahmad was the first woman to join the protests in Douma, a town on the eastern outskirts of Damascus.
She is 22 years old and Um Ahmad is not her real name, but nobody likes to give their real name in Syria these days.
Wearing a veil under her pink coat, she lights a cigarette and recalls the first days of the movement.
"I used to go door-to-door knocking on women's houses to encourage them to take to the street," she said.
Though Um Ahmad presents herself as a member of the conservative Islamist Salafi movement, she and her fellow protesters were not calling for a state ruled by Sharia law.
"We were going out for our call for freedom, democracy and a civil state," she explained.
Lack of unity
Um Ahmad has been detained before and is now in hiding after joining Free Syrian Army (FSA). "The only way forward is to fight this regime with weapons," she said.
She joined the ranks of the Ghouta Revolutionaries brigade, part of the Damascus suburb's military council, helping with logistics.
"I joined the Ghouta Revolutionaries because this brigade doesn't have a conservative Islamic name, not like the rest of the brigades across the country," she explained.At the start of the uprising against Bashar al-Assad, women and different religious groups participated in protests
The eastern suburbs of Damascus, known as Eastern Ghouta, have always been seen as the conservative part of the city. In most parts it is hard to find a woman who is not veiled.
That is especially true in Douma, a town that has around 800,000 inhabitants.
Douma was the first area in the suburbs to witness anti-Assad demonstrations back in March in 2011, only one week after protests were broken up by the authorities in the flashpoint town of Daraa.
On 24 March, the people who demonstrated in Douma were not only townspeople but young students of different religious and social backgrounds from across the country. They met at the university dormitory and went out to protest together.
But now the scene is very different.
"There are various FSA brigades in Douma and most of the time they don't coordinate with each other," Um Ahmad said.
"The one that is most powerful and more organised is Liwaa al-Islam. They are the ones with the biggest funding and more weapons".
Sharia courts
Liwaa al-Islam is a conservative group applying Islamic Sharia. And this is what many in Syria - including many in the the opposition - do not want to see.
"They have set up a Sharia court and they prosecute whoever they suspect as an agent of the regime or amongst the security themselves. In most cases they are killed," Um Ahmad said.
Liwaa al-Islam is getting most of its funding from Saudi Arabia, mostly from Syrians living in the kingdom.
They are also reported to have weapons which they have taken from regime forces.
Abdulwahed, who is close to the group, recently joined the FSA after his home was destroyed by government shelling. "We have got nothing else to lose, we have to fight and we only have hope in God to help us topple this regime."

When asked about Islamic law being implemented, he did not see a problem in that.
"They now have judges who are looking into each case and they are not killing the captured anymore, but referring them to the Sharia court".
But there are growing concerns within opposition groups about the potential spread of Sunni extremism in a country with a diverse religious make up.
"The rebels who refuse to hold the al-Qaeda flag and don't have an extremist ideology are poorly funded," Um Ahmad said.
"I am a Salafi by belief but I don't have the extremist ideology that's being imposed on the rebels by the Saudis. I fear these Islamist are going to prevail with their own extremist ideology in Syria."
Those are the fears of an opposition Salafi woman. The concern is much greater amongst secular political opposition.
"The violence has got us nowhere," said one opposition activist with a secular background who has been working on peaceful means of change.
"The regional players are manipulating our revolution and arming those who would only accept radical ideologies."
Extremism fears
This is exactly what the government in Syria has been warning its supporters and the world about.
Since the beginning of the crisis, the regime has claimed that Salafis and extremists groups are threatening the secular state that it is protecting.
It recently started talking about an al-Qaeda presence in Syria and foreign jihadis coming to carry out acts of terrorism.


What started out as scare-mongering on the part of the government has now become a reality, with al-Qaeda elements and foreign jihadis fighting in Syria.Western governments and secular Syrians fear conservative Islamist groups are gaining the upper hand in Syria
It is something Western governments who want to see the fall of the Assad regime are alarmed by.
Mark C Toner from the US State Department told the BBC: "We've been very vocal about our concerns that the kind of environment that the Syrian government has created leads to these kinds of groups exploiting the situation and trying to gain a foothold.
"We stand clearly on the side of non-violence. We want to see the Syrian opposition make a peaceful political transition, and that's where our support is focused."
But there is nothing on the ground at present that suggests anything is being done to achieve that. Meanwhile Gulf states who are allied to the US are the ones being blamed for focusing their funding on extremist groups.
"Those men with the FSA who refuse to follow the radical Islamist ideology are poorly armed," the secular opposition activist told me. "Sometimes they can't even find enough money to feed themselves."

(Reuters) - Masked gunmen shot dead a counter-terrorism official south of Sanaa on Wednesday, a security source said, the latest in a series of assassinations as the U.S.-allied government battles al Qaeda militants.
Ali al-Yamani was shot by two motorcycle gunmen in Damar province where he was leading counter-terrorism efforts, the source said, adding the gunmen who fled were suspected of being linked to al Qaeda.
Another assassination attempt on the mayor of Sanaa, Abdulkader Ali Hilal failed earlier Thursday, the official Saba news agency reported.
Hilal was inspecting preparations for the Muslim festivities of Eid when a man on a motorbike attempted to shoot him, the agency said citing a security source.
The gunman, alongside the driver of the motorbike, were both captured and Hilal escaped unharmed, the agency said.
There have been a number of assassinations and attempted assassination on security officials and politicians following the ejection of Islamist militants from towns in Abyan province in south Yemen. The militants took control during an uprising that threw president Ali Abdullah Saleh from office in February.
Saleh's successor Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi has cooperated with Washington in an effort to crush the militants, including stepped up air strikes using U.S. unmanned planes or drones.
Restoring stability to Yemen is an international priority due to fears that al Qaeda and other Islamist militants may become entrenched in a country which neighbors oil producer Saudi Arabia and is close to major shipping lanes.

Israel official: Egypt not doing enough in Sinai

JERUSALEM (AP) — An Israeli Cabinet minister has expressed rare public criticism of Egyptian government action against Islamist militants in Egypt's Sinai desert.
Sinai borders both Israel and the Hamas-run Gaza Strip. Militants operating in the lawless desert peninsula have launched attacks on Israel and smuggled weapons through tunnels into Gaza for use against Israel.
The militants have also targeted Egyptian forces.
Cabinet minister Moshe Yaalon, a former army chief of staff, told Israel Radio Thursday that Israel cooperates on security with Egypt's new government, headed by President Mohammed Morsi of the Muslim Brotherhood, also the parent movement of Hamas.
Still, Yaalon added: "To say that we are satisfied with Egyptian activity in Sinai, I can't say we are satisfied yet."
It was not clear whether he was articulating an official government position.

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon's main opposition bloc stepped up pressure Wednesday on the Hezbollah-dominated government to resign after blaming the Shiite militant group's ally Syria for a car bomb that killed a top intelligence officer.
The anti-Syrian opposition alliance said Lebanon's rival groups can't hold a national dialogue until the government led by Hezbollah and its allies steps down.
"The first step to face strife is the fall of this government," said a statement by the March 14 coalition of anti-Syrian parties read by senior official Fares Soeid. "The government, through its leader and the political groups that back him, takes major responsibility for facilitating the plan of the criminal Assad regime," it added.
The statement was an apparent reference to what anti-Syrian politicians say is lack of support for investigations into other recent assassination attempts.
Friday's assassination of senior intelligence officer Brig. Gen. Wissam al-Hassan in a car bomb has stirred up sectarian tensions in Lebanon, where Sunnis and Shiites are deeply divided over the Syrian civil war. Violence since the assassination has killed 13 people.
Damascus has intervened heavily in Lebanese affairs over the past decades and is blamed for the deaths of many prominent critics and anti-Syrian political figures. But Hezbollah remains a staunch ally to both Syria and Iran, which provide much of its arms and funding.
Soeid said the opposition will work to bring down the government through peaceful means.
The United States also waded into the debate, with Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton making a thinly veiled jab at Hezbollah, which the U.S. considers a terrorist organization.
Clinton told reporters in Washington that the Lebanese must choose their own government, but that "the Lebanese people deserve so much better."
"They deserve to live in peace and they deserve to have a government that reflects their aspirations, not acts as proxies and agents for outside forces," she said.
Lebanon's two largest political coalitions have lined up on opposite sides of Syria's civil war. Hezbollah and its partners who dominate the government have stood by Assad's regime, while the Sunni-led opposition backs the rebels seeking to topple the government. Assad and many in his inner circle are Alawites — an offshoot of Shiite Islam and a minority in Syria — while the rebels come mostly from the country's Sunni majority.
Al-Hassan was the latest of some dozen anti-Syrian Lebanese politicians and security forces to be killed since February 2005 when former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri was killed in a truck bomb in Beirut. Hariri at the time was distancing himself from Syria, which dominated Lebanon for decades.
Prime Minister Najib Mikati offered to resign after Friday's bombing. But he was asked by President Michel Suleiman to stay while he consulted politicians involved in a national dialogue that has been trying for months to find a solution to the dilemma of Hezbollah's arsenal.
Hezbollah is by far the country's strongest military force with its own arsenal that it has refused to integrate into the regular army. Lebanon also has dozens of smaller militias linked to political groups, families or tribes. It's a problem the country has struggled with since the 1975-1990 civil war.
An official close to Suleiman told The Associated Press that one topic on the agenda for a national dialogue would be "what kind of government they suggest." He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak to the media.
However, the demand for the government's resignation is likely to block any dialogue because Hezbollah and its allies will most likely refuse to do so.
Suleiman met with Mohammed Raad, the head of Hezbollah's parliamentary bloc. Raad said after the meeting that the group is ready to attend the national dialogue adding that he and the president did not speak about the Cabinet "at all," apparently a reference to the demands for its resignation.
U.S. ambassador to Lebanon Maura Connelly met Suleiman and an embassy statement said she reiterated Washington's support for the president and other leaders as they seek "to build an effective government and take the necessary next steps" in the wake of al-Hassan's assassination.
She noted the concerns shared by the U.S. and international community regarding the potential for instability and the creation of any political vacuum, the statement said.
Angry protesters tried to storm the government palace after al-Hassan's funeral Sunday in Beirut, venting their rage at leaders they consider puppets of the Syrian regime. But they were pushed back by troops who fired their guns in the air and filled the street with tear gas.
Al-Hassan's work led to the arrest of former Information Minister Michel Samaha, one of Syria's most loyal allies in Lebanon, who is accused of plotting a wave of attacks in Lebanon at Syria's behest. Syrian Brig. Gen. Ali Mamlouk, one of Assad's most senior aides, was indicted in absentia in the August sweep.
On Wednesday, security officials said investigators are looking into the type of explosives used in Friday's bombings to see if it was similar to those that Samaha brought in his car to Lebanon from Syria.
They are also checking data of cellular telephone calls that were done in the areas of the explosion before the blast occurred, the officials said on condition of anonymity in line with regulations. They added that street security cameras in the area showed that a car had saved a place for the booby-trapped Toyota RAV4, which parked near al-Hassan's office shortly after the other vehicle left.
The Toyota RAV4 was stolen more than a year ago and the thieves had called its original owner asking him if he wants to buy it back. Officials said they are trying to identify those who called the car owner.

Donald Trump's big "October Surprise" didn't turn out to be much of one, something that isn't exactly a shocker for anyone familiar with the reality TV star's publicity-seeking brand.
Trump's self-hyped announcement this afternoon was that he's offering to donate $5 million to a charity of President Obama's choice—if the president releases his college application records and transcripts, along with his passport application by the end of the month.
The Donald's quest for the president's college records is far from new. In April of 2011, shortly after Obama released his long-form birth certificate, Trump quickly pivoted to the issue of the president's grades, suggesting that they weren't good enough to get into an Ivy League school.

Late yesterday afternoon, Patrick Moran resigned from his position on the campaign.
In the video, Patrick Moran expresses doubts about the plan but eventually tells the undercover volunteer to “look into it.”

In a statement issued Wednesday night, Patrick Moran said, that “at no point have I, or will I ever endorse any sort of illegal or unethical behavior.”

“At no point did I take this person seriously. He struck me as being unstable and joking, and for only that reason did I humor him. In hindsight, I should have immediately walked away, making it clear that there is no place in the electoral process for even the suggestion of illegal behavior, joking or not.”

Moran said he stepped down because he didn’t want “to be a distraction during this year’s critical election.”

Jim Moran’s campaign office released a statement, saying: “Patrick is well liked and was a well-respected member of the campaign team. This incident, however, was clearly an error in judgment. The campaign has accepted Patrick’s resignation, effective immediately.”
Rep. Moran's Republican opponent, Patrick Murrey, released the following statement in response to the video:
After seeing this video on several news sites, I am very concerned about the campaign activities of my opponent.  While it is not clear whether or not there was any wrongdoing, I hope that local, state and federal election officials will look into this matter immediately.  The integrity of our nation is at stake, and it appears that my opponent’s campaign seems prepared to undermine free and fair elections right here in Virginia.

Sadly, anyone who is familiar with Jim Moran will not be surprised by this.  The truth is that Moran has a long track record of hyper partisan behavior, racially charged comments and an infamous anger management problem.  So this is more of the same embarrassing behavior that we’ve come to expect from Jim Moran and his campaign.
Meanwhile, in Florida the FBI is investigating a bizarre case in which Republicans are receiving strange and bogus letters questioning eligibility to vote.
FBI officials said Wednesday the FBI will focus on letters received by voters in 18 counties in central and southwest Florida.

According to the Republican Party of Florida, Chairman Lenny Curry received one of the fake letters on Tuesday.

"This type of activity is not only disgusting, it is criminal, and must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law," Curry said in a release.  "I call on Florida Democrats to join me in condemning this false letter writing campaign that appears to target likely voters in Florida, and help RPOF get the word out about this false campaign."

Local 6 first reported the bogus letter scam on Monday, which claim to be from county supervisors of elections but are postmarked from Seattle. They raise questions about the voter's citizenship and appear intended to intimidate people.
And who is the target of the Florida letter scam?
Officials in Florida have issued a statewide warning about a new trick trying to prevent voters from going to the polls.

Voters are getting letters that look like they are from local elections offices, questioning their citizenship. But Local 6 has learned the letters are fake, and they are going out across Central Florida and many other parts of the state.

Officials on Monday said voters who had received the letters thus far are white, registered Republicans who consistently vote in elections.
Yes, voter fraud exists.

Lindsay Lohan is careening toward financial ruin ... by making stupid business decisions and recklessly stashing her money in unsafe places -- this according to her management team.

TMZ has seen text messages between Michael Lohan and Lindsay's lawyer Dave Feldman, discussing Lindsay's recent promotion deal with an energy drink named Mr. Pink.

As we reported, Lindsay flew out to L.A. earlier this month in order to attend a launch event for the beverage -- just hours after her blowout fight with her mother Dina in NYC.

In the text messages, Michael claims Lindsay was paid $150,000 for the event IN CASH ... which Lindsay then gave to her brother Michael Jr. to hold in his bank account for safe keeping.  Michael expressed fear that Dina had access to Michael Jr.'s account and would raid it for herself.

Dave expresses outrage in response, claiming Lindsay should have looped him and her business manager in to the Mr. Pink transaction in order to provide her more financial protection ... but she never did.

In the messages, Dave says Lindsay was even more stupid for not including her management team on the Mr. Pink deal because -- as Dave says -- they could have gotten her even more money for the job ... but again, she didn't.

As we reported, Lindsay's dad is terrified she has fallen back off the wagon and needs a conservatorship because she can't handle her affairs -- and based on these texts, he might have a point.

Before DUI Arrest

Bobby Brown was singing his face off at an L.A. dive bar in the hours before his DUI arrest early this morning ... there's just one problem ... we can't quite figure out what song he was singing.

We broke the story ... Brown was popped for drunk driving around 1 AM after cops say the singer was driving erratically.

Now, we've learned ... Brown had been hanging out at the Maui Sugar Mill Saloon in Tarzana, CA shortly before he got behind the wheel of his car.

People at the bar tell us ... Bobby didn't appear to be drinking while he was at the bar ... but he was singing karaoke.


We've obtained a picture of Brown's performance ... which shows the karaoke screen ... but we can't make out the lyrics. We think it could be "Tears in Heaven" ... but it doesn't really match up.

GOP sees opening to control U.S. Senate

RICHMOND, Va. -- Two former Virginia governors are in a fierce fight to represent the state in the U.S. Senate in one of the close races that could help decide which party controls the agenda for the next two years.
In a series of debates, caustic mailers and combative television commercials, Republican George Allen and Democrat Tim Kaine have been clashing over transportation funding, Medicare funding, health care overhaul and the future of Social Security.
"This is a very high-stakes election that will affect the country for decades," said Ted Brown, a professor of political science at Virginia State University, who attended a recent debate in Richmond.
Polls show the candidates are neck-and-neck, and Virginians aren't the only ones paying attention.
Nationally, the GOP needs only a net gain of four seats to wrench control of the upper chamber from Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada and his fellow Democrats, who now control the Senate by 51 to 47 with two liberal independents.
Political scientists say they aren't expecting to see the Senate flip, but it's not out of the question. The possibility is enough to get GOP supporters to funnel millions of dollars to key races.
To GOP stalwarts, a win would mean the new Congress can send a backlog of GOP-backed bills to the president's desk. That's assuming the House remains in Republican hands, which is likely, but not a lock.
"So many bills passed the House, but Harry Reid won't release them for the Senate to vote," said Sallie Johnson, recording secretary of the Chesterfield County Republican Party, who held an "Allen for Congress" sign at the entrance to a recent Kaine-Allen debate in Richmond.
Those bills, which would be subject to another House vote in the new Congress, include legislation to prohibit taxpayer-funded abortions, reduce corporate tax rates, audit the Federal Reserve and repeal the Affordable Care Act, a top goal of many GOP candidates.
If President Barack Obama stays in office, he would be able to use a veto to stave off outright repeal. However, he couldn't fully implement the new health care law without funding, which a GOP-controlled Senate surely would block, said John McGlennon, professor of government at Virginia's College of William & Mary.
A Republican-controlled Congress wouldn't necessarily be in Mitt Romney's best interest either if he wins the White House, Mr. McGlennon said.
"He might actually hope for a split Congress, which would give him the opportunity to blame one chamber for his failure to deliver on some of his supporters' expectations," he said. "Some of the policy proposals being advanced by the social conservatives supporting him in this election could be very dangerous to his overall popularity."
Jeff McCall, a Depauw University expert in political communication, said Mr. Romney would have no one to blame for a failed agenda if he is elected president with a GOP Congress.
Americans generally don't like the House, Senate and Oval Office to be in the hands of the same party, said Diana Carlin, professor of communication at Saint Louis University and founder of Debate Watch, a national voter education program.
"If Mitt Romney gets an entire Republican Congress, are all the decisions going to be lock-step? Is there going to be enough debate?" she asked. "Any time you have one party controlling everything, the national check-and-balance system doesn't work as well as it's supposed to."
GOP stalwarts like Bretiss Zacek of Bonair, Va., however, believe the more the Republicans in Congress the better. Ms. Zacek said she fears that Democrats in Congress will allow the government to ration health care and won't provide enough medical help to sick children and the elderly.
"We need change in Washington," said Ms. Zacek, who held an "Allen for Senate" sign outside a recent debate in Richmond.
Mary Sue Oehler, a Democrat who also attended the debate, agreed in principle but said that simply flipping control of the Senate isn't the answer.
"Rigid partisanship needs to be shaken and gotten rid of. I think we need new ideas and, certainly, people who will compromise, not sign some crazy [Grover] Norquist agreement not to raise taxes and therefore be strapped into rigid promises when you're serving a country and you don't know what's going to happen," she said.
Republicans also have their eyes -- and their wallets -- on Connecticut, Wisconsin, Montana, North Dakota and Nebraska, where they think they've got a shot at capturing seats. They're starting to put their hopes into Pennsylvania as well, where challenger Tom Smith has been gaining on incumbent Bob Casey. Some recent polls put Mr. Casey's lead within the margin of error.
Democrats, meanwhile, are trying to protect those seats and to hit Republicans back where they're vulnerable: Massachusetts.
Democrats already have funneled $28.3 million to Elizabeth Warren's bitter battle with incumbent Scott Brown. That's more, by far, than they have spent on any other Senate race this cycle, according to data maintained by the Federal Election Commission. Republicans, meanwhile, contributed $24.4 million to Mr. Brown.
In campaign ads, Ms. Warren is telling voters in liberal Massachusetts that their ballots could make the difference in control of the Senate, and political scientists say she's right. Every seat counts this election, Mr. McGlennon said.
Democrats also are focusing on the race in Indiana, where GOP candidate Richard Mourdock's comment Tuesday during a debate that when a woman becomes pregnant during a rape "that's something God intended" has brought national attention to the contest. The state treasurer, who unseated six-term Sen. Richard Lugar in the primary, is locked in a close race with Rep. Joe Donnelly. Some Republicans have distanced themselves from Mr. Mourdock, and Mr. Romney said he disagreed with the comment, but would continue to support the candidate.
The outcome of Senate races also has deep implications for the judicial branch, said Christina Greer, assistant professor of political science at Fordham University in Manhattan.
At least two Supreme Court nominations are likely during the next presidential term and Senate confirmation is required.
"If Obama is re-elected and the Senate is Republican, he's going to have to put up nominees farther to the right. Instead of having a left-of-center judge we might have a more centrist judge or even one a little bit to the right," Ms. Greer said. "That's the only way he'll be able to get them confirmed."
If Mr. Romney wins and winds up with a GOP Senate, there's a good chance the court would overturn parts of the Affordable Care Act. A more moderate court already upheld the premise of the act, but a right-leaning court could inspire new lawsuits over nuances of the law and that could have far reaching implications.

Georgia (i/ˈdʒɔrdʒⁱə/) is a state located in the southeastern United States. It was established in 1732, the last of the original Thirteen Colonies.[4] Named after King George II of Great Britain,[5] Georgia was the fourth state to ratify the United States Constitution, on January 2, 1788.[6] It declared its secession from the Union on January 21, 1861, and was one of the original seven Confederate states.[6] It was the last state to be restored to the Union, on July 15, 1870.[6] Georgia is the 24th most extensive and the 9th most populous of the 50 United States. The central Piedmont extends from the foothills to the fall line, where the rivers cascade down in elevation to the continental coastal plain of the southern part of the state. The highest point in Georgia is Brasstown Bald, 4,784 feet (1,458 m); the lowest point is the Atlantic Ocean.
Georgia is the most extensive state east of the Mississippi River in terms of land area, although it is the fourth most extensive (after Michigan, Florida, and Wisconsin) in total area, a term which includes expanses of water which are part of state territory.[8]

Georgia's 2010 total gross state product was $403.1 billion.[52] Its Per Capita personal income for 2007 puts it 37th in the nation at $33,499. If Georgia were a stand-alone country, it would be the 28th largest economy in the world.[53]
There are 15 Fortune 500 companies and 26 Fortune 1000 companies with headquarters in Georgia, including such names as Home Depot, UPS, Coca Cola, Delta Air Lines, Aflac, Southern Company, and SunTrust Banks. Georgia has over 1,700 internationally headquartered facilities representing 43 countries, employing more than 112,000 Georgians with an estimated capital investment of $22.7 billion.

Georgia's agricultural outputs are poultry and eggs, pecans, peaches, cotton, peanuts, rye, cattle,hogs, dairy products, turfgrass, tobacco, and vegetables. Its industrial outputs are textiles and apparel, transportation equipment, cigarettes, food processing, paper products, chemical products, and electric equipment. Tourism also makes an important contribution to the economy. Atlanta has been the site of enormous growth in real estate, service, and communications industries.
Atlanta has a very large effect on the state of Georgia and the Southeastern United States. The city is an ever growing addition to communications, industry, transportation, tourism, and government.
Food is also a major industry in Georgia, with widespread farms producing peanuts, corn, and soybeans across middle and south Georgia. The state is the number one producer of pecans in the world, with the region around Albany in southwest Georgia being the center of Georgia's pecan production. Gainesville in northeast Georgia touts itself as the Poultry Capital of the World.

Industry in Georgia is quite diverse. Major products in the mineral and timber industry include a variety of pines, clays, stones, sands and the clay palygorskite, known as attapulgite. Textile industry is located around the cities of Rome, Columbus, Augusta, Macon and along the I-75 corridor between Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tennessee to include the towns of Cartersville, Calhoun, Ringgold, and Dalton (the Carpet Capital of the World). In November 2009, Kia started production at the first U.S. Kia Motors plant, Kia Motors Manufacturing Georgia in West Point.
Georgia has one of the strongest military presences in the country. Several United States military installations are located in the state including Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay, Fort Benning, Moody Air Force Base, Robins Air Force Base, Naval Air Station Atlanta, Fort McPherson, Fort Gillem, Fort Gordon, Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany Dobbins Air Reserve Base,Coast Guard Air Station Savannah and Coast Guard Station Brunswick. However, due to the latest round of BRAC cuts, Forts Gillem and McPherson will be closing and NAS Atlanta will be transferred to the Georgia National Guard.

Georgia's electricity generation and consumption are among the highest in the United States, with coal being the primary electrical generation of fuel. However, the state also has two nuclear power plants which contribute less than one fourth of Georgia's electricity generation. The statistics are 75% coal, 16% nuclear, 7% oil and natural gas, and 1% hydroelectric/other. The leading area of energy consumption is the industrial sector because Georgia "is a leader in the energy-intensive wood and paper products industry".[54]

Georgia has a progressive income tax structure with six brackets of state income tax rates that range from 1% to 6%. In 2009, Georgians paid 9.1% of their income in state and local taxes, compared to the US average of 9.8% of income.[55] This ranks Georgia 25th among the states for total state and local tax burden.[55] The state sales tax in Georgia is 6.875%, but there is no sales tax on prescription drugs, certain medical devices, or food items for home consumption.[56]
The state legislature may allow municipalities to institute local sales taxes and special local taxes, such as the 2% SPLOST tax and the 1% sales tax for MARTA serviced counties. Excise taxes are levied on alcohol, tobacco, and motor fuel. Owners of real property in Georgia pay property tax to their county. All taxes are collected by the Georgia Department of Revenue and then properly distributed according to any agreements that each county has with its cities.

In the Atlanta area, Zoo Atlanta and Stone Mountain are tourist attractions.[57][58] Stone Mountain receives several[quantify] million tourists per year.[59] Atlanta also hosts the Georgia Aquarium. The ten-million-gallon aquarium is billed as the largest in the world and features more marine species than any other aquarium.[citation needed]
Callaway Gardens, in western Georgia, is a family resort.[60]
The Savannah Historic District attracts over eleven million tourists each year.[61]

The Fox Theatre, a former movie palace, is a performing arts venue located in Midtown Atlanta, and is the centerpiece of the Fox Theatre Historic District.

Georgia's major fine art museums include the High Museum of Art and the Michael C. Carlos Museum, both in Atlanta; the Telfair Museum of Art in Savannah; and the Morris Museum of Art in Augusta.[62]
The Atlanta Opera brings opera to Georgia stages.[63] The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is the most widely recognized orchestra and largest arts organization in the southeastern United States.[64]
There are a number of performing arts venues in the state, among the largest are the Fox Theatre, and the Alliance Theatre at the Woodruff Arts Center, both on Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta.

The rich heritage and southern antebellum atmosphere of Georgia has given rise to a great number of works such as Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind, Olive Ann Burns' Cold Sassy Tree, and Alice Walker's The Color Purple.
Georgia has also given rise to many prominent authors, poets and playwrights such as James Dickey, Sidney Lanier and Lewis Grizzard.[65]

Churlish souls stint their contributions to the ministry and missionary operations, and call such saving good economy; little do they dream that they are thus impoverishing themselves. It is the teaching of Scripture that the Lord enriches the liberal and leaves the miserly to find out that withholding tendeth to poverty. In a very wide sphere of observation, I have noticed that the most generous Christians of my acquaintance have been always the most happy, and almost invariably the most prosperous. I have seen the liberal giver rise to wealth of which he never dreamed; and I have as often seen the mean, ungenerous churl descend to poverty by the very parsimony by which he thought to rise. Men trust good stewards with larger and larger sums, and so it frequently is with the Lord; He gives by cartloads to those who give by bushels. Where wealth is not bestowed the Lord makes the little much by the contentment which the sanctified heart feels in a portion of which the tithe has been dedicated to the Lord. Selfishness looks first at home, but godliness seeks first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, yet in the long run selfishness is loss, and godliness is great gain. It needs faith to act towards our God with an open hand, but surely He deserves it of us; and all that we can do is a very poor acknowledgment of our amazing indebtedness to His goodness.
